I had the opportunity to hit both shows at the Commodore. A couple observations:
1) First time in Vancouver, great city, great people. Had an exceptional time. 2) Commodore Ballroom is an amazing venue. Superb sound quality and just the right size. 3) The first night show had relentless energy from the Pixies. Crowd was good, but not as much energy as I would expect. Pixies just shotgunned through the setlist. Other than the false start, there was no chit chat, just music. The setlist was just as others documented and looks quite similar to other shows. 4) Definitely was excited to go to the second show, but was concerned we would get the same setlist, boy was I wrong! There were some replays (both versions of Wave, Bone Machine, Gigantic) but we got Planet of Sound and a bunch others that I can update when I listen to the DiscLive CD. But the real bottom line is that the crowd and the Pixies were way into it. Amazing energy! Frank et al had more to say and Kim just had this glowing smile the whole night. If you are ordering DiscLive for Vancouver, you won't be dissappointed by getting both, but the one to have is night 2. |
