In my search for some new music, I've been stumbling across this name a bunch of times. There seem to be a lot of really positive reviews for his moniker Bonnie "Prince" Billie, especially for his record "I see a darkness". Before I throw away any money on an album however, I wanted to ask if anyone here had any opinions of his work. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Will Oldham/Bonnie Prince Billie/Palace/Palace Brothers (this guy is like the swimmer) is one of my favorite musicians. He's really great. My favorite record is Ease down the road, but I think it's not the favorite of the majority of people.

Ease Down The Road is realy good yes but for me I See A Darkness is his masterpiece. One of those few records which has one tremendous song following the other. Master And Everyone is also very good. Under the Palace Brothers he did There Is No One That Will Take Care Of You, also a record worth trying out. Try downloading some of his music first and give the songs a while to take a hold. Raining In Darling, A Minor Place, Riding, Wolve Among Wolves and the title tracks from I See A Darkness and There Is No One are safe bets.

Yes, I love him. I See a Darkness is wonderful and unfortunately people tend to only recognize Cash for it when it's really an Oldham original. Master and Everyone is also amazing as are many other albums. I also recommend DLing a few tracks first; his style is not for everyone.

Offerw, do you have any suggestions as to where I could download some of his stuff? Oh, and thanks to everyone else. I think I'm going to the local record shop this weekend. I'll try looking for I see a Darkness, or possibly Ease Down The Road.

You don't know of his song/album/movie Purple Rain!?! Where were you in 1984!?!?!
In all seriousness, I am familiar with the Palace Bros. album There Is No One What Will Take Care Of You, or something like that. Almost sounds like a title to a song by the band Love. Pretty good stuff.

Hahah, 1984, wasn't alive yet. I wasn't aware that Will Oldham made a movie/song/album. I'll have to take a look at that too.

I See A Darkness is a masterpiece. Arise Therefore and Viva Last Blues, both under the "Palace" moniker, are also great. By the way, Amazon happened to give me an extra copy of Viva Last Blues (still unopened) which I would love to trade for a burned copy of any Will Oldham (preferably Bonnie Prince Billy) stuff. Anyone interested?
