Best action movie ever? I thought after seeing Vol. 1 that it was hugely entertaining even without a plot. Vol. 2 made me empathize with The Bride quite a bit and I really got into the story. Each movie was great in it's own way, and the sum of the parts is maybe my favorite Tarantino work. No, it is. |

yeah, after seeing the first one, I was thinking that it was just Tarantino's chance to prove he can direct action, and in that he had succeeded, and I didn't think Vol. 2 was going to reveal much more in the substance and story department, so I was blown away by how deep it went. It completely exceeded my expectations, and Tarantino's my favorite director. I think it might just be his best film, too, but then again, none of his four feature length films are weak that he's directed are weak. But this one is just so strong and really shows a maturity as a director, writer, storyteller, and most importantly, human. There's so much humanity behind all the killing. Quite incredible. I like the ultra Kung Fu element of how all the opponents respect each other. Wow, I could go on and on about this film.

I liked reservoir dogs, I loved Pulp Fiction, I liked Jacky Brown but I did not liked Kill Bill at all. What is about? Nothing? the manga was lame, the fight scene in the restaurant lasted really too long. A stupid mix with japanese, american (fast and furious) and hong kong shit. Q.T just try to be cool, just like if it was Fonzie that had wrote the script. Vol1 & Vol2? I'm sure he could have done it in 2H30. But, there he sells twice more tickets and twice more DVD. |

That's too bad for you. Kill Bill, for me, is an incredible cinematic experience that is rarely seen nowadays, or ever, really.

I liked it a lot. Did not even know that was Samuel L. Jackson until the credits rolled. A few times I got the feeling like I was watching a Leone western.

Tarantino is a hack. He had some early success quoting other directors' styles. Now, years later, he's still quoting their styles. It's time he developed his own voice. |

i thought vol. 2 was excellent - a total bookend to pt. 1, which was excellent in its own right - great western feel to it - can't wait to see it again

I heard that someone at Miramax today was gloating in the NY Times about being able to triple-dip in the DVD market ala LotR. He said there's gonna be 6 different Kill Bill releases this year:
Vol. 1 Vol. 2 Vol. 1 SE Vol. 2 SE SE 2-pack Tarantino Collection
I'm trying so hard not to buy the Vol. 1 DVD right now. I want to watch it more, though. Patience. |

I watched Vol.1 again last night because I plan on going to Vol. 2 this week-end. I agree with Brokenface, love the western feel. I heard there is a rumor of a vol. 3 that is supposed to take place 20 or so years later; verita green's (vivica fox) daughter takes vengeance on "The Bride".

i read an interview w/ tarantino about "vol. 3" - its at least 15 years later. he said that in his mind, sofie fatale gets all of bill's $ and uses it to raise vernita's daughter to go after beatrix later in life. he said he might even film some of it now. but i don't know if it will be called kill bill

I just saw Vol.2 last night....it's a bit of a change from the action of the first part, more dialogue but the violence is more grueling! Some terrific scenes....QT has lifted some of Ennio Morricone's Serge Leone spaggetti western music directly from those movies, but it works! And David Carradine is great. |

Thank you, Carl. Nice to see that someone else understood Vol. 2, and Carradine is one of the best movie villains of all-time. It's interesting how supervillain, like from a comic book, he is. A respectable supervillain. And then he uses that whole Superman analogy. It was an absolutely brilliant and daring film, and I think a lot of people just aren't going to get it, especially since there's so many tone changes and different techniques employed in the film. It's just hard for some people to enjoy it all and still be engrossed, I guess. I find it baffling that some people don't like it. I went to see it last week with 3 of my friends, and we all loved it. The audience was packed and really into it, too. So then I assembled another entourage of friends, including my brother, and we saw it last night. I figured that since all of us often are on the same wave length when it comes to art, they were all guaranteed to be as taken with it as I was, but when we got out of the theatre, one of my friends began complaining that he kept realizing he was watching a movie and couldn't get sucked in, and my brother said he wasn't all that taken with it either. It was really a buzzkill, and at first felt like a personal attack since the movie had moved me so much both times I watched it. My roommate was quite amazed by the depth and character development of the Vol. 2, and so when we got back to our place, rather than being able to strictly talk about how much we loved the film, we had to justify our liking it and support the film to ourselves, and try to figure out how my brother and our friend couldn't get into it. We're going to go see it with some other friends again tonight, and hopefully they understand Kill Bill Vol. 2. I thought that those who enjoyed Vol. 1 but not 2 were just people who wanted action-packed movies with little substance or characters, but apparently my brother and my friend aren't as into good storytelling and depth in films as I thought they were. Oh well. I've come to accept that not all my friends can be into the same stuff as I am, and that's good, because there needs to be diversity amongst a community. I just wish we'd all been on the same page for this film.

I LOVED vol. 1. Was disapointed by vol 2. Here's the ironic kicker. I hate action movies. I love character studies. I thought the writing was horrible in vol. 2. and really do hope it's an aberration considering the fine writing in Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Him taking so long since his last film worries me that he's let it all go to his head and is letting anxiety creep into his writing. You know, pulling an Axl Rose. Dunno. Vol. 1 rules, even without an ending. |

I just saw Kill Bill Vol. 2 for the third time tonight. Still can't figure out why it has so many detractors, or any for that matter. My favorite scenes are the entire Massacre at Two Pines chapter (wedding scene) with the beautiful black and white cinematography. Sam Jackson's cigarette smoke just pours out and the light hits it so beautifully, and the performances between Carradine and Thurman are just outstanding. The way the two are at first in seperate shots, very detached from each other, and then they begin moving towards each other slowly, and we see their feet as they approach each other, and then the shot of their faces as they are reacquainted with each other, and facing all this confusion about their feelings and actions, it's just remarkable. The entire Pai Mei section is great, too. With all the zoom-ins on Pai Mei's face and him whipping his beard around. Just awesome. And then the entire section with Carradine and Thurman at the end is just beautiful, but I don't really want to spoil too much for those who haven't seen it. I dunno, it's too bad so many people can't see the bold brilliance behind this film, and the strength of the stories and the character. It feels so much more like a novel than a film. In fact, it even reminds me of some of the stories behind old Nintendo video games, like Ninja Gaiden. I love these type of stories. Revenge stories. They're a lot of fun, especially in the hands of such a talented filmmaker.

I agree. I agree. I agree emphatically. This is the first movie in a while that I want to see over and over. Strange that some other people don't think it's up to Tarantino's standards. |

On a different note. I love pulp fiction. But having only seen Resevoir and Jackie Brown once they didn't strike a chord with me, they are decent films but kill bill is the only one I feel that stands up to pulp fiction. I should probably watch Jackie Brown again.

I have finally seen them both. Very good. Not his best work but still very good. Some of the acting is very good. Bill is very good and their daughter is even better. She has to be the best child actor I have ever seen. So natural.
I would like Tarantino tackle a serious war film and an old school western now!!! I'd like to see him move away from violent films for a while but I know he won't do that. So yeah, a war film and a western would be interesting in his hands.
By they way, does anyone know who the main song from Kill Bill Vol 1 is by? You know the one that has been used in various adverts etc. The one from the trailer.

supposedly he had been writing that since JACKIE BROWN and it got out of hand and turned into a trilogy.. so he decided to do KILL BILL instead, to take his mind of INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. which also got out of hand. |

I knew she was played by Uma Thurman sure, but considering Tarantino bleeped out every mention of the Brides name in the first film I was hoping for some sort of surprise, which has now been ruined.

Well I'm a big Tarantino fan, and I thought Kill Bill was a bit overhyped considering the style outweighed the content, and I really missed the patented Tarantino dialogue, but I've heard theres more of that in Vol. 2 so I'll still give it a try. I feel like I owe him my admission price for Pulp Fiction alone, my all time favourite movie.

There's more of that trademarked Tarantino dialogue in Vol. 2. They're 2 sylistically different films that work well alone or together. I'd like to see Vol. 3 in 15 years if he really does it. |
