I've only seen Serial Mom. I liked it, but I hear its pretty diluted as far as his films go.
-- "You one of those right-wing nut outfits?" inquired the diplomatic Metzger. Fallopian twinkled. "They accuse us of being paranoids." "They?" inquired Metzger, twinkling also. "Us?" asked Oedipa.

I loves me some Polyester. I also like Hairspray and Crybaby for how much he's able to get away with and still only get a PG rating--a triumph.

"Polyester" is wonderful - my favorite. I think it is his best, but that's just me. I wasn't as keen on the others, but I like them a lot. I wouldn't recommend "Pecker".
I frequently become aware of myself sniffing things, and ferreting out clues to great success. That gives a nice ominous tinge to the everyday.

Oh yay, another Polyester fan! I never tire using the phrase, "Oh Francine! It's so ra-sha-sha!" Also, the late great Stiv Bators plays Bobo, so you can't beat that.
I haven't seen Pecker. I kind of lost track after Serial Mom.

As a native Baltimorean, I feel compelled to see them all. There was a festival here in L.A. about 10 or 12 years ago where they showed some of the early ones like Multiple Maniacs. I'd like to think I appreciate them more than non-Baltimorons because I have relatives from the city who could be characters in a Waters film. Like my great aunt in Brooklyn, Maryland, who still sports a beehive hairdo. She doesn't know what kitsch is-- that's just the hairstyle she settled on back in the '60s. Sit down and eat a couple dozen crabs with her and you'll know where John Waters is coming from. It's pretty cool. |

I saw Pecker and hated it and gave up on Waters. Seems like I should try something else of his then. Where do I start?
