just got back from a week in Vegas, man that place is something else.
stayed in the mirage and i would suggest that hotel to anyone. this was my first time there and i would go back as soon as possible.

one wierd thing, the whole Roy situation. there are still many adv. for Siegfried and Roy shows. the entire situation is quite taboo. even when i saw Penn and Teller, Penn cracked a Roy joked and it flooped.

back west to see the P's in less than two weeks.

good for you.

i just got back from Laughlin. which is a more mellow Vegas.

i think if i stayed in Vegas for a week i'd end up leaving on a stretcher in an emergency helicopter. i can only do Vegas for 48 hour periods.

Vegas and Laughlin are both a waste of valuable desert.

I'm there later this year - I've got a couple of guide books, but does anyone have tips as things I really shouldn't miss?

well, there is a certain establishment called Crazy Horse Too which i've "heard" is interesting.

you should check out downtown Las Vegas, which is about 15 minutes away from the strip. it's more old-school. a little more on the seedy side, if you're into that. on the weekends, it's much easier to find cheaper tables .. whereas on the strip, on the weekends, you're lucky if you can find any tables under a $10 minimum bet. (not that i endorse gambling).

the best buffet, by far, is the Bellagio. don't let anyone tell you otherwise. it's the most expensive, but it's worth it.

another fun thing to do is ride the ride they have at the top of Stratosphere. that's pretty insane. it's like Free Fall at Magic Mountain (if you're familiar with that) only taller, plus it's at the top of a skyscraper. just riding the elevator to get to the ride is scary enough.

and there's a fun rollercoaster at New York New York. you can't miss it if you're on the strip. it's fun to be out in the open air and have a nice view of the desert

so many things, where to start?

if you are into blackjack, the barbarry coast has $3 tables not too many and full of fools.

i did the buffet at bellagio and it is great. cheap and huge burritos at chipotles(?) next to harrahs.

the rides at stratosphere are cool because they are 1400 feet in the air, but the only that is worth the $10 is the big shot. NY/NY rollercoaster is the best ride on the strip. there are more amusements in mgm saw them but did not ride.

if you have time checking out the Hover Dam was well worth it. that thing is amazing and the ride through Las Vegas valley getting there is interesting.

went to Penn&Teller at the rio and they were really good. i was able to get 1/2 price tickets(forget where).

if you are into art, there are two exhibits worth seeing one at the venetian the Guggenheim Hermitage and at the bellagio MFA's Monet.

if i think of more will add.

Barbary Coast is probably my favorite casino on the strip. but even there, on the weekends, you won't be able to find a $5 table, except during the day.

my heart belongs to the Horseshoe downtown though. that's a casino. old men in cowboy hats, elderly people with oxygen tanks, mullets. (i get emotional just thinking about it)

another establishment i've "heard" is interesting as well is Deja Vu. just throwing that out there. ..

Mroocore is right, you have to ride the Big Shot (i couldn't remember the name). that's the one i was taking about. it's fucking insane.

you might not want to be as drunk as i was when i went on it. but then, you're in Vegas.. when aren't you going to be drunk?

another tip: if you have any interest, there's a really good taco stand right next to the Stratosphere. i can't remember the name of it, but i was amazed at how good it was. if you want to try some cheap southern California style Mexican food.

but really you should just gorge yourself at buffets the whole time. self-restraint is looked down upon in Vegas.

Too funny. You got love the old woman with their oxygen tanks and their cups of nickles. You left out the 45 year old cocktail waitresses squeezed into their dresses.

I had a friend pickup a blackjack dealer at the Horseshoe in front of us all while we tried to slowly lose our money. It wasn't a shining moment of glory for him.

Thanks everyone - though as I'm going there with my girlfriend I may have to pass on those places described as "interesting"!

if you want to take your lady to for a nice meal, there's a steakhouse at the Paris hotel that's quite good. you can sit outside and see the Bellagio water show thing from your table, which chicks tend to like.

that way she'll sleep like a baby and you can slip out and take a cab to the Crazy Horse.

uh, i mean.. slip out and buy her some flowers to SURPRISE her when she wakes up!

2900 Tropicanna. You can rent machineguns there. Or just a pistol if you want. Something different before returning to the horrors of BlackJack and strip clubs. Hoover Dam is worth the drive. The drive to Reno is very, very cool. It takes all day.

The real thing. I was kind of stunned too, but they rent them and you buy bullets by the pound. It's a indoor range and they only ask that you don't shoot up the ceiling. HK's, Thompsons, Uzis.

No, Roy didn't die. He just ended up in critical condition at the hospital. I think he's pretty much recovered by now.
