I never heard of him, but I just saw him on Letterman. I took notice to it for some reason. Does anyone have any prior knowledge, opinions or critques about this dude.

Just curious

I saw him (or, rather, heard him; it was incredibly difficult to see the stage) at a singer-songwriter weekend, but I really don't remember enough about him to give an informed opinion.

And with that pointless post, I should have one-friggin'-thousand posts, biznatches. Too bad we can't make threads about that kind of thing anymore.

I was working in the bookshop in UCD a few years ago and I saw him in the student bar. Possibly just cause I was glad to get out of work, I enjoyed it nonetheless: but at some point he took out a minidisc of a backing band (must've really wanted to showcase new album tracks) and it smacked a bit of karaoke. That's all I can recall, a vague enjoyingitness. The beer was in plastic cups so you drink it faster to avoid it getting warm.

A friend of mine is really into him. We would listen to his CD "O" while getting high. He's real good. We were supposed to go see him in Philadelphia last fall but never got around to it.

Somebody gave me a copy of the album a few weeks ago, and I've really enjoyed it. There's some nice Irish tinges and the odd bit of country. Its really quite accomplished stuff, and all the better for the odd moment of breaking the mould, e.g. introducing some random Finnish opera into the last track...
If you can, try downloading Cannonball, Amie and The Blowers Daughter, I would say they're my favourites off the record.

I heard a few tracks of this the album at the local record store and it was good but I haven't bothered to look into it since, guess this is my second chance.

Damien Rice is one of those band that spread fastest by the word of mouth. I've burned several copies of "O" for my friends.

It's slow, emotional, climatic, and not stupid. "O" is one of those albums that don't expire.

I just saw Damien Rice, plus the Frames in Boise, Idaho. One of the best concerts I've been to. It's amazing how hush the audience can become for an acoustic band. They had fun on stage, interacting with the audience. He's begining to look a little like Bob Dylan.

I'm thinking Damien Rice will be sticking around for a while. Almost decades, like Frank Black is currently doing right now. He's a skinning little guy with big artistic talent.

So you're a fan then?

I've heard he's pretty good live as well, lots of interaction and variation on the songs.
Was the female singer there as well? She adds a lot to the record, harmonies and solo vocals. I'd be up for seeing the band play, thats for sure.

He is fucking brilliant. Seen him play Vicar Street in Dublin in February and apart from FB&TC's in the same venue last yr it was the best gig I have been at..He is unreal live, played a five minute improv and it was class. His back up vocalist "Lisa Hannigan" is prob the best singer i have seen. Her voice is angelic and yet powerful..You will not go wrong by buying his album!

He only has one album but it is amazing..

ps. Don't be minding the .co.uk web address - He is Irish

I am. I'll be looking forward to his albums in the future.

It's also great make-out music.

Good stuff, but I feel better appreciated by women.
I'm a guy and enjoyed it, but was quite disturbed that my nipples were hard and I was a little moist by the end of the album.
That should get me in trouble.
It's just that, I sort of imagine women listening to this in a warm bath, with foofy candles burning throughout the house. Maybe a tear or two thrown in for effect.

Yeah, his lyrics are about loss and sadness... almost the perfect attitude for failing a perfectly good relationship. I personally don't like listening to songs with this subject, since i'm married and happy, but the atmosphere "O" makes sadness into beauty. It makes a man hold on tight what he already has.

Download "The Blower's Daughter".. it's freaking amazing. Very melodic. brilliant.
