That's a good one, but I'll take "Happy Days" by Catherine Wheel.

I'd say 'Mirrorball' (Neil Young) or 'Fight For Your Mind' (Ben Harper).

I'd say Tricky - Maxinquaye, or the second Tindersticks album.

Maybe PHUQ by the Wildhearts, and I think Infernal Love by Therapy was 1995. Maybe ...And Out Come The Wolves was '95 as well, I'm not sure.

Oh yeah, forgot the Bends. That's probably the winner.
Looking through my collection, I see that a huge proportion of them were released in '94 - that was a big year for music. Here's some (including some I don't like, I'll make that point now):
Jeff Buckley - Grace Oasis - Definitely Maybe Weezer - Blue Album Therapy? - Troublegum Sugar - File Under Easy Listening Soundgarden - Superunkown Nick Drake - Way To Blue (cheating, I know, but good anyway) Foo Fighters first album, or was that 95?
Rocket From The Crypt - Scream Dracula, Scream was 1995.

"Pacer" by The Amps, and Foo Fighters "The Colour and the Shape". Also really enjoyed Collective Soul's self-titled album.

No Catherine Wheel fans? "Happy Days" was a fucking MONOLITH of an album. And still not even their best. |

The Blue Album came out in 94 actually... but Cheeseman did a 1994 deal. What to go, Changer of Subjects Man.
Weezer did not release an album in 95.

I'll agree with Wowee Zowee and The Bends. Don't forget Pulp's Different Class and Aimee Mann's I'm With Stupid. Alien Lanes and Pacer were good but uneven. Did REM release New Adventures in HiFi in '95? It had four or five killer songs on it.
FUEL? I dunno, I love BobMould/ Sugar but FUEL was average. Except for Explode And Make Up which was one of the best songs I've heard in '95.

I used to. Actually, that album is a good punk rock record, whichever way you look at it, and you won't sway me. There's some killer tracks on there.
I had a look yesterday, and The Colour And The Shape was '97. Thats 2 (two) years out, thats a whole year more than everybody saying Weezer.
And Wilhelm, I've also heard that FUEL isn't Sugar's best record, but its the only one I have (it was on special offer I think!). I like it, there's a really nice thick sound to it, and some of the songs are ace.

The Bends is the best that I can think of right now for '95, Weezer's Blue Album is the best for '94 and The Colour And The Shape was not Foo Fighter's first album.

I think you are all somewhat mistaken. Easily the best release of 1995 was Faith No More's 'King for a day, fool for a lifetime'. An amazing album.

Seconded. Cuckoo for Caca was groundbreaking. I really enjoyed the use of counterpoint balanced against a backdrop of atonal 13th and 9th Locrian modal derivations...and the talking about eating poop for fun.

I'll discuss Alien Lanes with you when I'm back home after Easter holidays and I have a chance to listen to it again and point out the tracks I don't like. I do not understand why you have to be insulting though.

No insult intended, I assure you my friend. I was trying to be cheeky. Mentaly insert a or a after any offensive comments above. I quite like Michael Chabon, and respect your opinion on matters musical and otherwise. Sorry if I came off harsh, I swear I didn't intend it. And please, listen to Alien Lanes and give me your critique, I would love to hear it. Cheers! |
