Yeah, I'm touchy. Perhaps I should post your private correspondence to me, and then we can have a fair assessment of who's touchy. Including accusations of secret conspiracies, etc. I was just turning it around on him, and sorry Mel, that post wasn't really meant for you or anyone else, I'm sorry I lumped you in with Jim, but as you said, you wouldn't be in the situation you're in if you didn't agree on a LOT of things. Still, my mistaken assumption.
Jim, this has NOTHING to do with "Cult of Frank" (or whatever else might go on the bottom of the shirt) and everything to do with you. If you can't see that, fine, but I'm pretty sure you can which just makes your "MADE BY DEAN" comment all the more childish.
You're right, I wasn't involved in the creation of the site. I defer to your infintite wisdom as such, you've definitely contributed a lot more than me and anything I say/do to attempt to help the site is therefore forfeit.
That said, you're wrong, I really could care less about a shirt that says "Cult of Frank" or something else entirely. I don't expect you to understand or even believe it, because I know you're not like that. I just thought it was a good idea, as I said, because the cult thing is a running gag here and almost every other signature (yours included), references it. Maybe "Cult of FB" or just "Join the Cult" would lessen the insecurity you're feeling? If it's really such an issue that you feel personally threatened, then I think we should drop the whole cult thing altogether and try collectively for something better. Honestly.
Finally, as suspected, you miss the point entirely. Petty count? The whole point was there WAS no count in either direction, either for or against it. The difference between you & I is that you are pronouncing that "most people" don't like it, whereas I'm only suggesting it as a possibility for the shirt (which, as we discussed privately, I'd be happy to see a vote for) and not alluding in any way to some massive following.
Anyway, if you want to fight and call names, I'd be happy to entertain such things privately, but I'm tired of these little masked pot-shots and hypocrisies that you undoubtedly believe are clever because nobody sees them except me and I'm generally too laid back to call you on it. Nope.
You want to take shots, either do it without the thin veil or don't do it at all. Like so: Grow up. Start by dropping me an email.

Oh, you actually did a "petty count". Touching. I'm all for a vote, again, as I've said. But let's throw some ideas on the table instead of just slandering mine as some sort of self-tribute.

I really don't know what to say. I figure I'll put a final public rebuttal, but I really don't know what to say. Go ahead and post the "private conversation," because you have a lot more to lose than me. I still say that if you really had nothing to hide, why isn't it public by now? It was your doing, so why don't you tell everyone what you did? Dave took it graciously and I commend him for possibly admitting to possibly being wrong, so why can't you? I have nothing to hide...so if it comes to posting private conversation to prove a point, go right ahead.
If you weren't so adament about the whole Cult of Frank thing on the shirt, why is it mentioned in nearly EVERY post of your in this very thread? You were the only one pushing the idea, and no one said anything for it past the 2 comments in the first page. If it's not that big a deal, then drop it, we're done here. I have nothing more to say about it.
I have no problem saying it'd be a decent idea, had the line not originated from your forum handle. Sure it might not seem like it, but that's the way I see it. I might as well write your name across my shirt. Call it petty, call it childish, whatever you'd like, I don't care, that's how I feel and I'm sticking by it.
I have no problem taking shots. I don't need to hide behind anything. I'm not that kind of person. It'd make a little more sense for us to shut up, considering we're mods. That's all I have left to say for everyone else to see...like I said, if you want to post what you did, go right ahead, I have nothing to lose. If you're not so much for that line in the shirt, then drop it, then this is all over and done with. We'll go along our merry way.

I appreiciate your apology Dean, but you dont know how difficult it is for me to not comment on your post.
For the sake of the other members, I wont. And i dont think this should be aired publicly. There is obviously something going on between the two of you, that seems to be quite long lived, and you clearly need to resolve - or ignore eachother.
You seem to both be using this Tshirt thing as a way to get at eachother (no matter who may be right, or wrong). and thats not fair on anyone. Yeah, my fault for replying to your post publicly, i should have done so by email. But you too should have made your post privately as well.
Youve both obviously just reached a boiling point with eachother, and as i said, its clear there have been underlying disagreements between the two of you for far too long.
However, Dean, your post seems to me to be a bit of a contradiction in many ways. Im sure you have the foresight to have seen that a LOT of people would not be happy using your handle name on the T Shirt - what ever other reference it may haveto the sight. I dont think its just the fact its your handle for most - just the whole cult thing in general..I dont know, has a strange feeling to it. But I can only speak for myself.
Anyway. Black and pink girls tees fine with everyone?

Mel, that's OK, I think I'm done with this t-shirt business. I see no reason to continue when my only motivation is to try to help get this moving and instead I'm attacked time and again. I really don't think you understand that I don't care about whether "Cult of Frank" is on the shirt or not, as I don't see it as towards me, but yes, I did consider it which is why I asked back on page one when I suggested it that if people felt wrong because it was my handle, they should say so. I now officially would like to remove that suggestion because it feels tainted and even though I do not believe there was anything wrong with me making a suggestion, I feel that it has become about me instead of Frank due to Jim's allegations. If the cult thing is further creepy, all the more reason to not go with it. This could've come up sooner and a lot nicer, like when I asked initially. And I'm not sure how I'm using the t-shirt thing to get at him, it seems more that he used it to get at me and I'm defending myself. But whatever. Finally, yes, I agree we should not be doing this publically (hence my suggestion to take this conversation to email).
As for why I did not post your private comments to me, Jim, it was merely because I thought such an action to be disrespectful in the utmost. Feel free to post it if you'd like, I would do so, but as I just stated, I'm done with it, because no, the t-shirt thing isn't a big deal, and this is probably the only way you could ever see that I could care less about it. My problem is, as I've stated time and again, and as Mel seems to have caught up on, with you. This attack was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
Consider my suggestion for the shirt dropped. If I had known it was going to be such a big deal, I never would've made the suggestion in the first place.
Now back to choosing shirts for FB.Net.

Ok, sothe cult of frank t shirt tag line is dropped. everyone agreed? (please say yes! I cant take any more of this! j/k)
so, 4 buttons(x200), 2 guys Tshirts,(x100) and 2 female.(x10)
lets get this designs finalised by the weekend, and put up (in a seperate thread, ..) for people to vote, with a strict just YES or NO. no discussions!!! discussions to stay in this thread, then we can tally up the votes easier. ok.
Then the votes to take place over like, a week, and by next sunday, we shall be able to order this flaming fb.net merchandise stuff!!!!
Hows that sound?

I never saw anything wrong with Cult Of Frank from the get-go; it seems more like a Cult Of Ray reference to me than one to Dean's handle, but that's cool if we drop it. I was thinking maybe we could incorporate the "since 1826" thing that used to be on the main page into the shirt as a sort of play-on the big clothing companies that have the dates on their shirts; and of course the "Come get kicked in the taco" thing would work for something. Also that "Not this Frank Black" thing is really funny and might work for a shirt.

I don't think having the "Cult of Frank" on a FB t-shirt is SO bad, and even though it has caused alot of turmoil, maybe it should still be considered in the voting. I know it seems to have been ruled out just now, but, isn't that what the voting would be for? It appears as though it's prematurely been voted off.
I really like the "Since 1826" idea and also the "Kick my Taco" or whatever thing on back. But I guess printing on the back is out.

Wow. After reading this i feel like saying 'fuck the fucking tshirts'.
So what if it says 'Cult of Frank'?? Why would Dean want his handle on the shirt? Unless it says 'The Cult of Frank is cool', it does NOTHING to credit or raise his stature. This is ridiculous.
Maybe you know him better than me, but to say that this is an ego-trip is quite insulting. Considering all he *has* done for the site (two tribute albums, bios, and an insane amount of time and energy keeping the Forum fun), i have hardly seen a twinkling of this 'ego' you seem so aware of. Maybe i'm missing something.
As for me voting against the COF idea, that was two-fold and not really a 'i hate it' vote. I've had bad experiences with cults in the past, so anything with a cult reference makes me hesitate. Also, i was trying to promote my 'Come Get Kicked in the Taco' idea, by not speaking so favorably of his. (So that leaves Ramona as the only opposition besides you and Mel.)
I think it's a great idea, especially since this is an FB.NET tshirt, and not a Frank Black tshirt. The 'Cult of Frank' theme has played a significant part in this community, and does not deserve the denigration you have provided so graciously.
If 'JOIN THE CULT OF FRANK' really means 'JOIN DEAN' to you, and if you really think this is his intent, then i have little else to add.
Work out what you need to privately and stop bringing this baboonary here.
To keep moving forward, what ARE the potential blurbs?

Join the Cult of Frank is fun, but I would have liked it better as the title of a next CD by FB.net members. I wonder if hanging out at Pixies gig with a T-shirt named Cult of Frank is such a good idea, may be kind of disrespectful for the other pixies.
So i don't vote for it. I don't like Come Get Kicked in the Taco. Third one is true but... |

I agree with Mel about deleting the flaming stuff between Dean and Jim, and also about starting a new thread with the different designs and people voting for or against them.
Hadn't thought about the "Since 1826" thing, but I really like it.

I agree, 'serving fans since 1826' is a great tag line.
I think some a voting thread needs to be set up, one that everyone agrees not to pollute with trivia and side issues. A simple set of questions with answers a,b c etc. i.e. colour, design, wording etc. Set a time limit of say 1 week and the final outcome can then be totted up. Hanging chads to be dismissed.

well... erm, firstly, i didn't realise those colours were for the girls t-shirs! haha, although they'll probably fit me better than the lads ones... not that i have breasts, just that unless the 'small' size really is small and not 'small elephant' size, then girls t-shirts normally fit me better.
i don't like the kicked in the taco tag. but i'm all for parts of songs printed on the back or something... if it were just plain text on the back, would it cost anymore to differ the backs? if they're being made to order could we have the back slogan customised? so say i could have "i want to live in los angeles, no not the one in los angeles" or something? anyway, just thinking out aloud! i didn't really care for or care against cult of frank... it's an "in" joke so wouldn't mean much to most people, although on the other hand it sounds cool and people would ask what on earth it was about... erm, then you'd have to explain, and maybe sound a bit geeky!
what's the plan then? decide on colours and then design? or design and then colours? i personally thing get the colour of the t-shirt first and then start thinking about the design? i really am all for this dark blue colour! would look ace.
erm, yeah, i agree with everything homers_pet_monkey said!

1 other thing. once the design and stuff is sorted. would it be an idea to find somewhere who makes them both in the US and over in the UK? so we can send them the design and specs... as i'm thinking it's going to add to the cost for us UK'ers, with shipping costs... but if we've got the design and stuff then surely any t-shirt printing company could do them for us? i understand it makes things a bit more complicated, with who pays for what and stuff... but something to think about. sorry if it's already been brought up!

Aye, we need to decide *what* to vote on, so stop voting and make suggestions.
So far:
"Join the Cult of Frank!"
"Come Get Kicked in the Taco"
"Dave Noisy Is Cool, Eh"
"Serving Fans Since 1826"
How about:
"Getting Kicked in the Taco Since 1826"
"Visit The Site And Buy A Nice Buttom"
"Join the Cult of Hermaphroditos"
"Home Of The Pure Denizen of the Citizens Band"
I think 'inside' jokes are great - this shirt isn't for Pixies fans or even FB fans - it's an FB.net tshirt. It's for people who visit and participate in this community. Or am i taking crazy pills..??

As fun as this is to read again, do I desticky it or what? Damien does have some pretty cool designs in there. And I like the whole "The Pixies Reunion Will Never Happen" tag more and more as it seems increasingly unlikely a Catholics reunion is in the cards.
