I don't know if you knew, but a young fan of a band called The Libertines paid them 1000 English pounds to play a gig at his local venue. He organised it through their website and sold a lot of tickets so I guess he would have gotten most of his money back.
Now The Libs are well known for playing small, spur of the moment gigs in pubs and houses but now my mate wants to offer them the same 'cos she is MAD on them (I am slowly trying to bring her round to the Pixies).
This got me thinking about offering the same amount to the Pixies when they come over (not seriously 'cos I know they wouldn't do it). If you could pick any band/artist to perform for you, other than the Pixies, who would you choose and where would you ask them to play?
Pick one act who are still going, and one that is not (dead or alive).
I would choose Yeah Yeah Yeahs at The Roadhouse in Manchester and Nirvana at the same venue.

Maybe Neil Young at the Hope & Anchor in Islington, and Nick Drake at the same venue.

I'd choose XTC. They can play pretty much anywhere nearby, but I guess I would prefer someplace I could sit down.

Wow, this would be hard... bands around right now that I would see would be between John Williams (though not a band, so scratch that), Spoon (I'd love to see these guys), Ween (they sound so awesome live), and Franz Ferdinand who I'm just really, really digging at the moment.
I think out of the list, at the moment, I'd choose Ween.
Bands that aren't around that I'd like to check out live... there are too many. I can't even begin to answer this one.

Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil or anything with Blake Schwarzenbach, even if he just played alone with an acoustic, I'd love to hear him do that acoustic song from the end of Dear You. And one that's current would be mclusky, that would be swank.
