After You Ain't Me and Hey, tribute CDs to Frank and Pixies by members, what could be next?
Does original songs dedicated to Frank and/or Pixies by members would be a good idea?
Frank already did this kind of things: Ramona (Ramones) The Man Who Was Too Loud (Jonathan Richman) Cult Of Ray (Ray Bradbury)
I believe there's some other but i can't figure it right now.
Does this kind of thing would be too difficult? Non-musicians/Good-at-writing could associate with Bad-writers/musicians.
And, does songs about Frank/pixies already exits?
Note: I already posted my suggestion on the Musicians sections, nobody answered. May be active members don't read it, or may be my idea is completly stupid. |

I've just found their website: http://www.hagfishonline.com/
I'm registering on their message board (hosted by "www.truepunk.com", does that sound interesting?), I'm going to leave a question about that song.
For all we know, it might be about that guy in "Millennium" (who I believe was named after *this* Frank Black).
Rémi, maybe you mean "Czar" about John Denver, although it wasn't exactly meant as an homage to the musician... And "Ten Percenter" is about Iggy I think?...

Yes, Czar, I remember he dedicated it in a 93 show in Dallas (Black is beautiful bootleg). I never knew Ten percenter was about Iggy, but it sounds ok. |

What's next after those tributes is a long, long break. I won't look at doing another tribute CD for quite a while if I do at all. I burned myself out on the last two being a little too close, even though I also had fun doing it.

Brian, good idea i'ld like too.
CoF, I think it could be a long run project, unlike covering a song, doing one that deserves well our Idol/Master/King might take much more time to make it sounds good. Maybe an EP would be better
To make it last, there could be first a contest for the lyrics, 4 could be chosen, then bands could choose one text, make a demo, and members could vote.
And it MUST be called Cult Of Frank

I believe a 311 song once sang about Frank Black...I don't remember the song title. It said something like: "(something something) Frank Black, He plays pachinko, He plays parchesi..."

I'll be looking at this in May probably, but I can't do anything before then even if I wanted to.
There've been a couple ideas that've been tossed around. Some that stuck out were covering a complete FB album, a second FB tribute covering only those tracks which did not make it on to You Ain't Me, a disc of FB tributes (not covers), a disc of original stuff inspired by FB, a disc of stuff just by FB.Net members (which would be pretty much the same as an 'inspired' disc), a themed disc (either musical style or some other theme), and several others which were not really feasible. Plus probably a few I forgot.
We can discuss this and decide once May comes around...

How could we hear and share music by FB members? (we've made with my pals two FB covers, kinks, ACDC, Beatles, and 2 original songs)
Soulseek? FTP? |

as a Hagfish fan I can tell you that "Frank Black" is 100% about our man. Great song, and an absolutely amazing band. If you want to hear the greatest Pixies cover ever, go to www.selfies.com , click on the download section , go to "internet albums" , click on "Feels like breakin' s***", and download "Titanic" . It's a spoof of "Gigantic" which is brilliant !! The Pixies were my favorite band until I got the chance to enjoy SeLF (the afformentioned band) . They have a ton of free downloads, and I guarantee that you will all love them |

'I Gotta Move' is about Jack Nance and Peter Ivers, who were both involved in Lynch's movie 'Eraserhead' before dying prematurely.

The only problem with submitting original songs is the copyright side of things. We don't want people pinching other people's songs!!!

That reminds me, LBF, I have a bit of a minor announcement to make in the Hey thread...
I think I will do another CD, but it will still be a few months away. I'm going to try a different schedule this time to see how well that works and hopefully alleviate some of the pressure/time demands from me. I'd start it sooner, but I think that we all need a good long break from the last two and I'm currently working on recording our band's first CD and prepping for some shows.
Which also reminds me, Tim, what's the status on the Clootie CD? How is that going/did it go?

Dean,
For whatever it's worth, here's my suggestion for the format of the next tribute disc:
"Show Me Your Tribute" - an album which replicates (in order) the Show Me Your Tears LP and nothing else.
Since there are so few songs on that record, you'd likely wind up with multiple versions of them all, and thusly, a ton of different and unique interpretations left over as "b-sides."
Regardless of what made the "official cut," folks could even wind up making two or three different "Show Me" tribute running orders by compiling their own favorite version of each track from among all that were submitted.
Just an idea.
Get some well-deserved rest, and thanks for offering to spearhead another herculean effort...

Yeah, if we do another tribute it should be an entire album covered in order...I brought this up a while back, doing each album one at a time. That would be neat.

Well, I think my band would be interested in participating in the next CD whatever you guys decide to do, we never got a chance to try anything on the last two.

I think the next tribute should be a mix between Pixies and FB songs which haven't arleady been "A-sided" on the previous 2 albums. |
