There's a tie between my top two favorite stand-up comedians: Bob Zany and Emo Phillips
Bob Zany comes around here once a year, and even though a lot of his material is the same, I'm just like dying of laughter. Emo Phillips is just so weird, one of a kind. I encourage anyone to check these guys out live.

I'll second those two, I also saw Brian Regan recently in Denver and laughed my butt off...beyond that I crack up at Dane Cook any time I see him, definitely worth checking out!

Does Richard Pryor count? George Carlin? If we're going with current then probably Mitch Hedburg.

I've only seen one live standup myself (if I remember correctly...) It was Lewis Black. He was fucking great.

I often go to the local comedy nights, alot of the warm up acts are often better than the headline. Although the headliners always feel more like 'real' comedians (you know linking stuff, timing) which is probably why I prefer the guests. A fave joke recently:
I got this cigerette lighter and I turned it over and it said, Warning Keep away from children, How did it know!?
As for live performer a little cliche but Peter Kay.

Andy Kaufman, Lenny Bruce, Eddie Izzard, Mitch Hedburg, a bunch of others, can't think, head hurts.
Crap. That says "live" up there, doesn't it? Bleep it.

apl or LBF:
I've never actually seen Mitch Hedburg live, but I've seen him on talk shows and I've got a few bootlegs. He seems HILARIOUS. Do you recommend seeing him live?

I've never seen him live but yeah
the only place I could see him would be at the Improv in DC and that's an 8 hour drive...
I'd go in a heartbeat, I'm sure it would be fun/
Tell us about it if you go

DANE COOK
The man is a god of stand-up. I saw him at the DC Improv a month or two ago, and I could not BREATHE. I was laughing hysterically, in tears, between shoving my face full of tortilla chips and trying to sip a bourbon-coke. I mean, I had seen his stand-up special and I thought it was hysterical, but seeing him live just blew my mind. I have NEVER laughed so hard in my life. Fucking AWESOME.
David Cross is amazing too...although more cerebral than Dane. I saw him at the Improv a while back, and he was hilarious. He rightfully takes the piss out of all sorts of dumb crap, like the guy from Creed...Bush...commercials...and just the little things in modern society that make you wonder if humanity really is the most evolved species. He's a comic genius, definitely...he just has this sarcastic tone a lot of the time that has me in stitches! |

Bill Hicks, though I´ve never seen him.
Saw Eddie Izzard a few years back and he scores points for making an entrance in heels down a staircase shaped like a rose. Sometimes he runs into dead ends with his jokes and says Oh forget that, it´s crap, but I find that just as interesting, the man´s unscripted energy.

i saw Dave Chappelle last year. he was brilliant.
my favorite has to be local guy Lenny Clark. he is currently on ABC in a bad sitcom " Its all Realative", was on a much better show w/ Denis Leary, "The Job", but it was canceled.

He's great, I saw him live my (super-)senior year of college. He picked up some guys ringing cell phone mid-show, and was completely fucking w/ the dude on the other end! priceless... He also continued his act for almost an HOUR more than he was scheduled for...he just didn't feel like stopping, he said. So he lit up a cigarette and kept going strong...whatta badass.
I want to check out Bill Hicks....I heard a soundbyte of him on Howard Stern this morning, and that shit was off the hook! Something about any actor/artist who does a commercial is just "another whore in the capitalist gangbang." So so funny.... |

Louis CK is fucking hilarious. Was he around in 2004? i'm guessing not so much, but i know there have been accusations by comedians other than Louie that say Dane Cook stole louies material (and others) then threatened to sue when he was called on it. Louie was all pacifist about it....

Frankie Boyle does go too far though sometimes. He got into trouble for making jokes about Maddie McCann andhe has made some on twitter since. I'm all for making dodgy jokes about war and politicians but when it comes to that..
Anyone remember/know that comedian Pablo Picasso, or Paulo I can't remember. I watched some of his live stuff on TV in Holland a few years ago but I have been unable to find any clips on the internet or anything about him. His humour was totally zany and involved doing weird impressions all the time. It made me laugh, but that was back in the days when I had a plentiful supply of marijuana and no internet
