Anyone play this great adventure game? I played it a while back, but now it's OOP and very expensive to buy used. I was wondering if anyone here has a copy that they'd be willing to pirate for me as a trade for something. I'm also looking for a CD copy of the amazing Neverhood Songs soundtrack by Terry Scott Taylor (also OOP)which is even more difficult to track down.

Speaking of adventure games, have you heard that Lucasarts has cancelled Sam and Max 2 and Full Throttle 2 because they don't think they'll sell enough copies in the current FPS market? What a bunch of pussies. I was really looking forward to those releases. All the recent adventure games I've played like Syberia and The Longest Adventure have been really boring. Bring back Grim Fandango!

Yeah, them cancelling those games was a dagger through my heart. They make as much/more money than they ever did making adventure games in the early 90s, it's just that the amount pales compared to FPS sales numbers. So what?!

The equivalent of this would be a band saying, well, we're only going to play R&B because that's what sells the most these days, even though we love rock.

And yeah, I'd kill for a Grim Fandango 2, too! LucasArts just had the right recipe for adventure games. The Monkey Island series was also phenomenal (though dropping off in post Monkey Island 2 adventures, but still awesome).

There's really noone out there making great adventures any more.

And I'd love to see a third Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle! Or even a version I can play with sound and music on my too-fast-for-its-own-good-PC.

I did play that game a bit back in the day but was abandoned before I had the chance to get into it. Sold it at a garage sale a few years ago for $5. Maybe I should've saved it?

Yeah, this game is funny as hell. I've got a copy, maybe we can work something out if no-one in the US volunteers, A4C. Send me a msg...

Recent decent adventure games? Yes, they're hard to come by. We (my wife & I, we always play those as a team!) did 'Runaway, A Road Adventure' recently, which comes from Spain, has great cartoony graphics a la 'Broken Sword' (1 & 2) and offbeat humor. Real short, though, but all these games seem to be now.

And I'd sign the Bring Back 'Grim Fandango' petition any day.

I know this is slightly off-topic, but if you want a solid game that you can really immerse yourself in, go out and get Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

I beat it once (playing the dark side) and now i'm playing through again to do the light side. This game is AMAZING. honestly, it's probably the best RPG i have ever played. Ever. and that is saying a lot.

Yeah, I finished that one a couple weeks ago, it was quite great though I found the dialogue a little unimpressive, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I finished on the pure light ending, and when memory fades a little more and I'm willing to invest another 30-something (almost 40!) hours, I will play again as evil. There are a tonne of endings and paths in this game, which is pretty awesome. Though my favourite part was sending Bastilla into battle in her underwear. :P

This was the best Star Wars game I played since Jedi Knight, though I'm looking forward to the new game which is like Battlefield 1942 except set in the Star Wars universe. Hop in an AT-AT and go up against the snow speeders in Hoth, or a speeder bike on Yavin IV, or ...

From what I've heard of this, it sounds like it's going to be pretty awesome.

I thought Knights was an online RPG?

I loved Jedi Outcast, especially the lightsaber battles with the Reborn. Have you played Jedi Academy? I'm waiting for the price to come down.

By the way, jediroller. Thank you so much for the Neverhood offer. I want to wait to see if there are any here in the US who can hook me up as it'll be much easier; if not, we can work something out. I'm looking to get a hold of Duckman as well...

Nope, you're thinking of Star Wars Galaxies, which I'd love to play if I had time.

Outcast was good too, though I wasn't a fan of the "non-linear" setup. There's a difference between a non-linear progression and a bunch of almost completely unconnected missions. It was a great game though... fighting alongside Luke was possibly one of the greatest moments in gaming history.

Academy was good too, but felt more like an addon than a standalone game because they really did nothing to enhance the graphics or do anything with the engine. It was just a new story and new maps on top of the old game. But again, that complaint aside, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it's definitely worth playing. They have yet to make a bad FPS over at LucasArts... the original Dark Forces was amazing and mind-blowing in a time when the idea of racing room to room grabbing a blue/red/yellow key seemed revolutionary (Doom).

Good luck with the Neverhood... I think I might have to belatedly check that one out. And Gabriel Knight, I never had the money to buy that back in the day but I was chatting with a couple girls I used to work with and they were raving about one of the Gabriel Knight games when I finished my Grim Fandango rant. We swore to swap, but it didn't happen.

You can get the first two Gabriel Knight games in a two-for for $25 on Amazon. I've been meaning to check those out.

I've also heard that Beyond Good and Evil is really good. Beware of Syberia though. I'm playing it now and it's really annoying.
