Shakira's "Underneath Your Clothes" sounds like "Eternal Flame" by The Bangles
White Stripes "Fell In Love With a Girl" sounds like "Middle of the Road" by The Pretenders
Ween's "Japanese Cowboy" has the same melody as "Chariots of Fire," which Ween became aware of and when performed live, the band segues into "Chariots" at the end of "Japanese Cowboy."
Steve Millers Band's "Keep On Rockin' Me" has the same opening riff as "All Right Now" by Free
Interpol's "Obstacle 1" starts off sounding like "By the Way" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and then begins to sound more like "Marquee Moon" by Television, and it keeps on feeling like the singer is going to start singing "Is She Weird?" by the Pixies throughout the song.
I should point out that one Joy Division guitar line sounding like a Zep song is nothing Joy Division should be ashamed of, because Zeppelin ripped off many artists much more blatantly and knowingly.
Plus, I don't have anything wrong with songs having a resemblance to another song. Pavement's "Silent Kid" is one of my favorite songs of theirs, and I dig "TV Star" by the Butthole Surfers. I like a number of the other songs mentioned above.
I should mention that "Fight Test" by the Flaming Lips sounds like Cat Stevens "Father to Son," but I haven't ever really heard "Father to Son," at least I'm not aware of having heard it, even though I played the chords to a verse of it a few weeks back while the guy I was performing with sang the words (and strummed his guitar). It was an open mic. Someone requested some Cat Stevens. My friend told me the chords to play, so I played 'em, he sang. I didn't notice the similarity to Fight Test then, but when I mentioned that I had never even heard that song before, people were like, "What, you've never heard Father to Son?" and I said, "Ahhhh, that's the one that supposedly sounds like Fight Test." It must be a good song, cuz the melody to Fight Test is awesome, one of my favorite Flaming Lips songs.

Good call. I always thought that Pavement song sounded like that Buddy Holly song.
I'd like to add that parts of the melody to No Doubt's "Don't Speak" sound strikingly similar to the theme from Fame.
Hand held shower nozzles are the demon enemy of the patriarch and should be destroyed. |

The intro to Don't Speak by No Doubt is similar to "Dream On" by Aerosmith, so if it does sound like Fame (which I don't know), then it's just a combination of two different songs, if not more.

Creep by Radiohead sounds exactly like Aline by Christophe, a big hit in France in the 60's (radiohead fans MUST check that!)

XTC's "King For A Day" sounds a lot like Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule The World." This was even pointed out in the book about XTC that I have.

I don't think the "King For A Day" thing was intentional on XTC's part, but producer Paul Fox might have intended it. Neville Farmer's book XTC: Song Stories has this to say:
"Paul's production led it toward a Tears for Fears sound and one critic called it 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World for a Day.'"

maybe the first muse album. but after that i would cease any comparison to radiohead, as the music is much too different from the stuff radiohead did/does.
good call on the creep/air that i breathe comparison.
the very start of the horrific song point to prove by theory of a deadman, lifts the start of a huge ash hit burn baby burn.

The Foo Fighters "All My Life" has a section of the song that sounds like Violent Femmes "Kiss Off."

The chords in Gone Away by the Offspring sound a lot like Blueprint by Fugazi. And there's a Dirtbombs song, one on their new album, track 11 I think. I want to call it Unspoken, but I don't think that's it. But anyway, that has the same sound as Gone Away and Blueprint, too. Must be something in those chords.

I'm probably the only one on Earth who thinks it, but I find the beginning to TMBG's "Broke In Two" to be pretty similar to that of Sloan's "Money City Maniacs." I'm probably just crazy, though.

actually, Creep is almost a direct rip off of the verse progression and melody from "The Air That I Breathe" from The Hollies.

One thing I can think of that may be intentional is part of Metallica's Master Of Puppets, that's exactly like Bowie's Andy Warhol. And the title of the song Leper Messiah(off the same album)is taken from Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars. |

The Shins' "Those to Come" resembles Guided By Voices' "Yours to Keep". Does anyone agree?
Oh, and Rimsky-Korsakov has a piece called the "Tsar Sultan Suite". My friend, who has a very strong knowledge of classical music, agrees with me when I say that one section of Korsakov's piece sounds almost exactly like the beginning of Dvorak's New World Symphony. |

Kind of off topic here, but that's what I do:
Are Richard Branson and Chuck Norris are the same guy? I'm pretty sure you could insert the "Richard Branson" name into each of the "Chuck Norris" fun facts located elsewhere on this forum and they would still be true.
