Nice thing is, though, if Black Francis wants to come, now he's on the list. Lucky him!
Hey thanks for this list it's a nifty idea!

I've signed up and I'm starting to feel important already. I just can't wait to get in line and tell the big chested bouncer in the bad suit with the little earpiece to "check the list". Then I'm going to rock the house like it's a home. |

Neither place would fall into that category, visually.
The only Brew Pub closed where the Osbourne Freehouse opened. It was a great place to get green beer.
The Albert has some history on it's side, you would have to know the history to appreciate it, as does the Windsor. The King's Head has a good (British) football theme but is mostly attractive for the people who frequent, for example I just met audiotapedog, video artist, amateur physicist and philosopher.
If you really want to be blown away by decor, walk in to the Bank Of Montreal building at the South East corner of Portage and Main (it looks like a Greek temple from the outside) or what is now Vital Statistics (where you apply for a new Birth Certificate) at the South West corner of Portage and Fort.
And if you want to drink with scenery there is the Empire and a club on the other side of Main, although the name escapes me, both carved out of old bank buildings. There is a mural inside a bar/restaurant called Johnny G's, although I can't recomend the food. Tucked in behind the Richardson Building on Lombard is the Liberty Grill, which also has some financial background.
Maybe the most beautiful room in the city is at the Hotel Fort Garry, a few years ago they peeled back a curtain that hid the ceiling to reveal what I think would be termed a fresco. You have to imagine the room before there was an apartment block and barber shop out the two story circular window, say 80 years ago when there was a garden that went from the hotel down to the Assiniboine River.
Most of the bars with themes are owned by CanadInns. They have a tropically themed one out by Polo Park, complete with more security than a Las Vegas Casino (I haven't been). A little more escapism can be found at the tropically themed Casino in Transcona (with walk-through aquarium) or the train themed Casino on McPhillips.
As for train themes, Le Veille Gare restaurant on Provencher is "The Old Train Station". |

Anyone who can discuss Complexity and Chaos after a dozen pints has an impressive intellect!
I came to the realization this morning that, as usual, when I disagree with Holly she proves to be right and we both owe her and Robert Downey Jr. a huge apology. |

Chaos and complexity usually come hand in hand after I've had twelve pints. Can I discuss them? So I've been told. |

How the hell do I keep getting these wacky nicknames? For the record the user name Jackanapes is because of my son who we called Jack. A Jackanapes is a wild and unruly child. Self fulfilling prophecy I guess. |

Thanks for that reply, there's definitely a few places I'll have to check out. You say NO brew pubs in Winnipeg at all, though?! I find that hard to fathom.

Anyone going to both Winnipeg and Saskatoon, do me a favor and read my recent post in the Buy/trade tickets thread. This might interest people whether or not they have tickets to Sask ... pretty good deal, I think. |

The Cult of Chazz Thompson, I know you're incredulous about the no-brewpub thing, but Winny really does blow in a major way. It's true. |

Saskatoon has... hmmm... well, almost ten (that I can think of) with a third the population. That's really strange... is there some provincial law that discourages this somehow?
I'll see if there's anyone I know that wants those S'toon tix, Roomloo. Most of the people I know that wanted to go got tickets when I told them about it anyway, but I'll try for 'ya.

I think someone earlier mentioned that the opening act would be their mom. I haven't heard any solid confirmation on that, though. |

Okay it is obvious that everyone going to this show is in some sort of meditative state. Time appears to slow down, like the coming of Christmas day to a young child. Hopefully everyone wakes up and remembers to go to the show. Hey! It's almost April!

I wonder who from the music industry and media will be at the Winnipeg show. If I find someone from Rolling Stone, do I have everyones permission to boot him in the ass? |

I've added a couple of pictures of the Burton Cummings Theatre to my website. I took them this afternoon. They have put up the marquee with the Pixies date....cool.
I tried to post them here, but I couldn't get it to work. Any suggestions??

Sweet!!!!! I've been driving by almost every day waiting for the marquee to change! Awesome!
Who wants to be a radio star for a day? I'm doing a live Pixies Preshow Tribute at UMFM (campus radio at the U of M in Winnipeg) on April 13th from 4-5pm. I'm inviting anyone going to the show to come on the air with me and we'll spin our favourite tracks and discuss the upcoming show and Mad Pixie Disease.
RSVP at: obijohngordon@hotmail.com.
See my photo and show description at: http://www.umfm.com/show_descriptions.shtml Just scroll down to "Pop Infusion" (Gunner, perhaps you could add this to your site? )
Also, those on the road (Jackanapes, I'm looking at you) can phone in at (204) 269-8636.
> Check out my show! "Pop Infusion" Tuesdays, 4-5pm CST on 101.5 UMFM, Winnipeg or umfm.com < |

Hey, I don't know if any of you out-of-town guys are sticking around town for a day or two after, but if you're looking for something to do, my band is playing at the Bella Vista on Maryland on Apr 15-17.
www.mikepetkau.com
re: Brewhouses -- I'm not sure why there aren't any here. Winnipeggers like their beer as much or more as the next place, maybe its just seen as yuppie marketing bullshit so we'll just stick with a pitcher of Fort Garry over at The Toad.
re: John Gordon/UMFM -- hey dude, I'd love to come down and spin Pixies tunes.
There's also been talk with my band and Sixty Stories about doing a Pixies-cover night party. I'll let you guys know if its happening... |

I wonder if it would be the Weakerthans? I don't know anything, to be sure, that was just my guess...
I heard the name of the band opening in Regina but can't remember the name at the moment... but they're a local Regina band that was just signed recently...
Oh, and Obijohn, I won't be able to join you on the 13th, though that could be fun, so be sure to play a track from Hey for me. :)

Is anyone going to try to bring their camera into the Burton Cummings theatre? Do any of you from Winnipeg have a sense of their routine for checking people for cameras?

Mike, I'd love to have you on the show. Consider yourself RSVP'ed. I just finished recording tomorrow's show (April 6). To show my appreciation, I included a track from your Parapet album. I also put on something by Sixty Stories (great band). A Pixies cover night would definately be fun. let me know if you need help with promotion.
For those just tuning in, I'm doing a Pixies Preshow Tribute on my radio show April 13th (see below). All are welcome to join me on-air and spin tunes and talk Pixies. Just RSVP at obijohngordon@hotmail.com or through this thread.
Only 9 more sleeps!
