This is a topic that I haven't seen too much of around here. I must begin by saying that I am not much of a drug user. My experimentation with mind-altering substances is limited to alcohol and marijuana. I have tried mushrooms one time. I didn't trip, but I had a body buzz going, and it was a beautiful experience. I've also tried opium and DMT, but I didn't really feel anything different when I tried those, besides for maybe a moment of bubbliness.
As for pot, I never really did drugs in high school. I tried smoking pot once and nothing happened. When I got out of high school, I started hanging around people who smoked, and suddenly it seemed like it was everywhere. In the group that I hung out with, the music to listen to while stoned was Pink Floyd. Ooooh, so original, I know. But a lot of that music was still relatively fresh to me at the time, though I honestly spent my personal time listening to Ween, Zappa, Queen and Sublime. But Floyd really was the shit back then to listen to while stoned. There were so many levels to the music. I have become a bit cynical towards Floyd's music since I feel they are overplayed, but back then, my ears and mind hadn't yet been exposed to the true underground sound that is just so much nicer than the sonically ubiquitous. So Floyd was amazing music while under drugs.
Ween was quite a trip, too, especially the early stuff like The Pod. For those of you who know The Pod album, there's that song Molly. Oh man, I remember laying on my bed with headphones on, baked outta my gourd, listening to that, and just laughing hysterically at the fact that these two guys went to the trouble of recording such a fucked up song. And I'd heard the song hundreds of times before that. My brother says that he never truly appreciated Ween's music until he heard them while stoned. Then he understood what angle they were coming from.
The thing with being stoned is that I'm so much more in tune with the senses, especially how I hear things. I can actually appreciate the different layers that are going on in the music, I can seperate them, and then see how they all fall together as a whole. I just think so much more heavily on things when I'm high. This can be a disadvantage, like when you smoke down with someone who you don't know too well and they're a bit strange, and then they just seem weirder and odder and they begin saying paranoid things and acting odd. That can be unnerving to be thinking heavily on what's going on. But when I can just relax and enjoy music or a movie while stoned, and just appreciate the artistic side of it, weed is a magical thing.

Do you not notice some discrepancy with your 'crazy man' thread here?
I can't really work out your angle...

I once watched Naked Gun 1 on dvd while smoking pot. Oh man, never has a film been so funny, it was about the 10th time I'd seen it as well. Thats my one and only story. It does't involve music.

I remember seeing "Brewster's Millions" while tripping acid one time. It was the funniest movie I had ever seen, as sad as that is. The movie "Spawn" seemed amazing the first time I saw it due to the mind-altering effects of LSD, the second time it sucked.

Music does seem really powerful when under the influence of some drugs. I was never a big pot smoker, but I remember hearing some music when I'd be tripping on mushrooms or something and thinking it sounded incredible, even though I might only moderately like it when I was sober.

I've never seen it on dvd. Just VHS 3 eps per vid. Which is just plain outrageous.

I sat in a cinema, watching Jackass The Movie whilst on ecstasy. We were going to club straight after it but it was pretty cool to watch that film whilst feeling so happy.

Still contemplating wether or not to watch the Pixies on ecstasy!!! It will heighten the experience but I don't want to forget it either. Then again, I will probably be pissed anyway from drinking in London all day.

Hmm, not sure how to play this one!!!

i listened to blur's new album, think tank, whilst stoned. it was the first time i'd listened to it too. the bass was fucking crazy and my mind was just visualising loads of actions that sort of fitted with the music... blew me away. i have to listen to the cd again soon though, to see if that's just the effect it has on me anyway.

Not really, I never went.

I believe it was very overrated. Not my sort of music either on the whole. Manchester is shite for clubs!!! Hoping to find something good though in London for 3rd June.

I watched that Primus video where they're all dressed up as cowboys, (the one about the beaver), while i was on acid.
It really freaked the shit out me, a very unpleasant experience, i still can't watch that video.

A friend of The Bennies recorded an album with Jeremy (of The Bennies)...his name is Jomiel, from Spain, and he recorded some really good songs. There was this one 'song' with jump him picking strings on the guitar with a wah-wah type sound while a chinese guy read back his credit card number in chinese over the phone in the background...the wah-wah guitar was nuts. We were listening to it while super stoned and I swear to god the guitar was talking.

I once took acid and listened to Bowie on my headphones and was convinced that Bowie was talking to me.... very strange.

I was actually thinking of getting hold of something for the Pixies gig in June, I'm into baking cookies at the moment.... so that might be an option (as that'll make me piss and miss a few songs).

Who's the man that won't cop out when there's danger all about?

i'm also putting a drink ban on myself for the pixies gigs.
i hate being pissed at shows unless i don't actually care who's playing, but not this time!

the main reason for no beer will be i don't want to have to go take a piss.
i remember at a Mogwai gig i needed to take a slash from the second they started, but i held on the 90mins....it was killing me by the end, but man it was worth it.
but i told myself never again.

Thought that was where it was. Tell me more Bummblebeeboy. Sell it to me. We are always on the look out for new places to go and dance like maniacs.

Soooooooo:

What's the music like? (give song/band examples)
What's the crowd like? (many knobheads?)
How big is it?
What are the prices like? (not that important but I thought I'd ask)

Cheers busy bee!!!

lol! i wrote a big reply and then i hit 'reset fields' instead of 'post new reply' by accident! lol!

to sum up...

£2 in with student id (or claiming to be student), £3 without
£2 for a double shot (whisky or vodka) and a mixer
lots of pixies (on request), pavement, sonic youth, hefner, early pulp, suede, blur and so on... mixed bag really, as it gets later they start playing the electric sixs, and franz ferdinands of the world...
sometimes have bands playing acoustically downstairs...
not a massive place, but a good crowd or like-minded people! no stone roses or monkey dancing in sight!

Come 'ere Cheesebell you little bastard!! I'm gonna punch your lights out!!!

Hehe, only kidding. I think I know what you mean (or I'd better or you're in trouble). There are a lot of knobhead scallies and lads who think they are better than scallies, but really just have a little more money and are actually no better (ie - they can afford real Burberry instead of fake). Three scalies had a fight at my bus stop on my way home from work today, right next to me. I moved eventually 'cos I didn't want them to throw a stray punch, but I was deeply saddened by the whole event. You don't actually see much violence in Manchester but I think it helps that I try and stay clear of the pricks. I just hate scallies with a passion, they are the most evil scum in all the earth. Worse than Saddam and Hitler. At least they had a mission, even if it was evil as fuck. Scallies have no mission, no drive and are STILL evil as fuck. Most of them are just too chicken-shit to act upon their evil fully.

Ooh you've gotten me started now!!!

But you must realise that my rant then was about scallies in general, not just Manchester scallies. They are everywhere. Even where you live Cheeseball, wherever that is!!!

But if it's not for the scallies, why else don't you like people from Manchester?

I won't bother trying to explain. I'll only get mad.

I VERY much doubt you are one though, CW.

I noticed Cheeseman is conspicuous by his absence.

Should I assume, therefore, that you believe EVERYONE from Manchester is a knobhead, Cheeseman???
