Does anyone here know of or remember Jonny Polanski? He was this guy who Frank Black helped get a record deal back on American about the time that the Cult of Ray came out. I really liked his record, but nothing else ever became of him.

Does anyone here know what happened to him?

He sent me a CD of 5 new songs last month. He'll send you them also if you go to his web site and ask.

The 5 songs are.

1. Even the Oxen
2. Shitstorm
3. Much Love
4. Calling All Babies
5. Let Me Out

You can hear Shitstorm on his website.

I picked up his Hi My Name Is Johnny CD at a record store here in Athens and wasn't overly impressed, although it's definitely better than 95% of what's out right now.

I had the My name is Johnny cd but sold it on Amazon a while back. It was ok but didn't set my world alight.

Jonny will soon release his 4th album (and 2nd 'real' LP), 'The Power of Sound'. It was partially mixed by Nick DiDia and features 12 tracks: Let Me Out, Round Around the Mouth, Even the Oxen, Much Love, Shitstorm, My Secret Life, Calling All Babies, Coming Into Slaughter, Be My Brain, Live for the Light, All This Freezing, Wiser.

I've already listened to it and believe me, it's amazing. Sounds like a crossbreed between Nirvana, the Pixies and Pearl Jam, with a little something more - say, an incredible spontaneity. Highly recommended.

Wow, his 4th album? That's great, I thought he'd fallen off the face of the earth. What label is he on, will he get a good distrubution? I hope so, his first album is awesome, "Half Life" is such a great song, and has such a good Frank Black feel to it.

It's actually called "Half Mind." That is a good song.

I really enjoy "Hi My Name is Jonny" and I can't wait for his new album to come out.

Yarbles: JP's new label is Loveless Records. And yes, I think his new album will get a good distribution (at least in North America).

For those who are interested, here's Jonny's recent discography:

- 'There Is Something Wrong With You' (Eggbert Records, 2001, 6 tracks). An excellent EP, in the vein of 'Hi My Name Is Jonny'.

- 'Touched By Genius - The Ultimate JP Collection' (Fuckface Records, 2003, 28 tracks). JP's early recordings. Features a bunch of funny, experimental songs, and some good demos.
