There is something I like to do when a bunch of people are sitting around talking about the Simpsons.. quoting, laughing, doing impressions of Simpsons characters...
After a few minutes I'll say with a straight face "What are the Simpsons?"
Ok, well I've only done that once, but it was a success and I'd like to try it again.

| I'm a big fan of "Home Movies" too, and the Simpsons, and of course - Family Guy, and... Futurama. Can't say I'm that into South Park though - it usta' be one of my favourites. But now I haven't really found myself watchint it that much. |

The Simpsons has been funny for a very long time, but Family Guy is much more sinister, which makes it funnier in my book.
I watched about 2 hrs of commercial free Aquateen Hunger Force, Harvey Birdman and The Venture Brothers last night.
The Aquateens is by far some of the most side-splitting stuff ever produced.
Kok, back me up.
Are there more than two Mooninites episodes?

So, needless to say, if you were waiting around with five bucks in your hand waiting to buy my upcoming brochure Understanding Poop, you can put that five bucks away, 'cause it ain't happenin.

i'm a huge fan of classic simpsons, seasons 1 through, oh, about 9 or 10. now, however, they suck. not clever. not witty. lame.
family guy did a good job of filling the void, though. great stuff.
home movies was wonderful, as was dr. katz.
i cringe when i see simpsons advertisements now. painfully obnoxious and unfunny. it's a bastardization of what was once great and perfect. at least we now have the classics on dvd!

It still manages a few chuckles. But it does seem like it's written by executives now, or somebody. And it tries too hard to be outrageous, and it just dos'nt have the heart it had. It's gone a little stale.

The Moonenites come back a few times, certainly more than twice. At some point, I'm not sure when, the opener to the show was changed from Dr. Weird to Space Cataz. Space Cataz is a short clip where the moonenites and those other aliens (the ones with the pointy arms) fight it out. I watch ATHF on and off, but when I'm in the mood for it, nothing can be quite as funny.
Some brains just work that way, that's what chemicals can do. |

No, no , no, the very early Simpsons, the ones that were drawn differently and had different voices (Homer's was the worst), were crap. They just weren't funny at all. I turn them off straight away when they are on. I haven't watched any of the new series though so I can't comment on them.

yes, the first three seasons haven't really stood the test of time, but seasons 4 through 8 are as funny today as they were ten years ago.

each episode of simpson takes around 2m+ to make. its animation, it takes a long time to produce. its a lot more hastle and much more cost than any reality or tv clip show. it is very amazing this show is still around, even with the ratings.
15+ years...wow.
its not only an amazing long running piece of animation, its a hell of a long life for ANY kind of sitcom without a continous storyline...especially with the pricetag attached to its production.
for animation fans, though...new flash/etc. technology will give us lots of great comedy for years to come, and with the crutches of this kind of animation, it will become important for the shows to be character and story-driven. shows like Home Movies would not have a hell's chance at the 3rd season they got if the cost wasnt so cheap cuz they didnt have to underpay 100 koreans to draw/ink the junk and sent tapes all over the world to "make it happen."

Pretty much since the show started, really. :P A lot of long-term fans seem to think the worst years of the show were the ones when Mike Scully was executive producer, though. I know I'm not alone in thinking that the show is better now than it was a few years ago, even if it doesn't come anywhere close to the classic seasons.

Writer drawn into Simpsons' show
NORTHAMPTON writer Alan Moore is to feature in a forthcoming episode of The Simpsons.
Moore, aged 53, recorded his lines at The Lodge studios in Abington Square last month for an episode which will be called Husbands and Knives.
The Simpsons' production team are long-time fans of Moore's, whose reputation in the world of graphic novels is legendary.
A chance meeting with his fiancée Melinda Gebbie got the project rolling.
Mr Moore said: "Mel was in America promoting our new book The Lost Girls and one of the Simpsons producers spoke to her and asked if I would be in the show.
"She said: 'Why don't you give him a ring he's very approachable'. "I was happy to do it. I'm a big fan of The Simpsons."
He features in a sub-plot which sees a new 'cool' comic shop opening in Springfield in competition with the Android's Dungeon, run by Comic Book Guy who is voiced by Hank Azaria.
The new shop has persuaded Moore to make a public appearance. In reality, Mr Moore rarely makes publicity appearances, preferring to concentrate on his prolific output of work.
This has earned him a reputation in America as a recluse although in Northampton he has a wide network of long-time friends and family.
Mr Moore's latest work, The Lost Girls, has garnered rave reviews around the world although it is not due to be published in the UK until 2008 due to a legal dispute with Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The Lost Girls features elements of the Peter Pan tale, which Great Ormond Street owns the rights to and he has agreed to delay publication while Great Ormond Street promotes its own sequel to JM Barrie's original, Peter Pan in Scarlet.
Mr Moore also wrote The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta, From Hell and Constantine, which were all made into Hollywood movies.
The Watchmen, a tale of dysfunctional superheroes, cemented his reputation in the 1980s and was credited with opening up the graphic novel as a medium for adult stories.
