Sebadoh touring with J. Mascis. Wow! Looks like there is a lot of goodwill going around these days. Wasn't The freed pig a song Lou did about J? Sebadoh, Sonic Youth and J.Mascis sounds like an incredible show though!

SEBADOH is amazing. LOU has a shy, storytelling way of playing through a show, it is quite cool. he makes you feel like you are a guest. i have not seen them(BARLOW and LOEWENSTEIN), together in a few years, the band split for awhile. SEBADOH gets my highest regards. i would suggest everyone try to see them.

quick question with a preface: If I had the money I'd have all of their albums tomorrow. I don't. I have bakesale and harmacy. love bakesale, love the barlow songs on harmacy. which album should I buy next?

Sebadoh 3, you won't regret it. Freed Pig and Violet execution are two of the best Sebadoh songs ever.

I was lucky enough to see Lou and Jason last year and they were fanastic, didn't play the above two songs though, or Not Too amused, which was a shame.

SEBADOH 3 is a classic, bare bones for the world to see, basic and wonderful. i would also recommend BUBBLE AND SCRAPE and FREED WEED. if you like lou's songs over jason's, then go for earlier SEBADOH. jason's writing came on as they grew.

thanks guys, based on your expert advice I will probably go for either 3 or Bubble and Scrape. What about "The Sebadoh". How does that rate?

Ew..that's their new one, isn't it? Too 'Folk Implosion' and not enough Sebadoh. If that's the new one, i'm a little bad with titles..

Avoid "the sebadoh" at all costs, it's horrible. In fact I think everything after bakesale is. You should definitely get bubble and scrape or III. I would personally recommend the freed weed though. The early lo-fi stuff is by far the best.

Sebadoh 3 it is. Then Bubble and Scrape. I've had Bakesale since like 96 or something and over the years have probably listened to it more times than anything else in my collection aside from Teenager, but I never bought another of their's till last Christmas. Don't ask me why. Of course it took me a couple of years to fully appreciate the album, so I don't know...anyways I got some catching up to do. And I'm inspired to do so before the show (I already got my ticket).

III, Bubble & Scrape and bakesale (my fave) are the best sebadoh. I never thought I'd see the day when Barlow and Mascis were in the same building together again!

Funny, sebadoh will be in toronto on April 23 but unfortunately I will be in Vancouver seeing the Pixies :-)

Is Harmacy a Sebadoh album? If it is, that's the only one I know, and I can't think of a cooler name for an album than Harmacy. That is so cool.

I'm a fsh with no i's.

Harmacy is a cool name, but a very bad album. If I ever have to hear 'Ocean' again I will cut off my own ears.

Bubble and Scrape is probably my fave...

but it seems to work on those albums
(I have to choose it's lou barlow over jason everyday)

I only have Harmacy and I like it enough to check out more. I've been meaning to get III or Bakesale next. The flow of the green is the only setback.

bought bubble and scrape a week ago thanks to you guys's recommendations. Great album. Though I like it, the Eric Gaffney stuff is jarring in contrast to the other 2. Especially since it's the first I've heard of his stuff. Favorites so far: #12, Soul and Fire, Sister. This is the best Lowenstein stuff I've heard. To me he steals the album. Thanks again.

Eric is necessary though. I personally love his songs, I think he's brilliant. I think just the vibe from him made sebadoh better, they started to suck after he left.

Eric is great and it was sad when he left Sebadoh, but "they started to suck..." is rough. his solo stuff kicks ass too. for a while he became a local(Northampton, Ma)god, shows all over northeast. playing often at real small venues, at least it seemed that way. there was a void when he moved to the west coast.

here is a link to an Eric Gaffney site. it is spam filled, but some cool music, pics and info.(old as it may be)http://www.angelfire.com/indie/ericgaffney

I know it sounds rough but seriously don't you think it's true? Bakesale was good for a sellout album but everything after that just doesn't have the same energy. I love his solo stuff too. I malied him for the lights up and spins around tape and it's awesome. I didn't know he moved to the west coast. He seems to have disappeared recently.

benefit show for Community Resources for people with Autism last night 4.30, Northhampton Ma.

if not for the Pixies last weekend i would have been through the roof over this, but i have a terrible case of the Pixies.

i have not been 'home' in a long time and it was great to see everyone. just about all of 'Northampton's finest' were there.

the show was amazing. when do you get a chance to see Sebadoh, J.Macais, and Sonic Youth on stage together on one night?

this was all for a wonderfull cause and went so smooth. could not make it for the opening acts due to work(damn work always getting in the way of me not working). all the acts including headliners have local ties, most living in western Ma.

the opening acts were:
The Chemical Wedding (i have never seen them)
Steve Westfield & The Lonesome Brothers (they are great together & apart)
Lo Fine (a high school friends band he now owns record store in area)
Claudia Malibu (lord russ's band)

then the big boys

it was wonderful to see Loewenstein and Barlow back together. i'm still missing Eric. they used a cd player, named phill, as their drummer. when asked by crowd where is Eric? Lou said 'selling shoes' they were tight and fun. after the show Lou told me they were thinking about making this semi-permanent w/ possibly new recordings after the tour.

Sebadoh:
carefull
license to confuse
got it
magnet coil
shit soup
skull
soul + fire
flame

it is always great to see J, i don't get a chance for that to often. he never disappoints.

J.Macais:
freedom
the lung
everybody lets me down
sameday
ammaring
little fury things
yeah we know
get me
tarpit
thumb
freakscene
alone
if thats how its gotta be
the wagon
sludgefeast

we got a small treat when J-drums, Lou-guitar, Scot Helland-bass, and Charlie Nakajima-vocals, brought back old hardcore band Deep Wound and played a song. to me they have always been a myth or legend seeing how the band ended when i was 7 or 8. so now i must believe all the stories.

Deep Wound Reunion:
hey little girl

Sonic Youth what can i say... beside they rule.
most of what they played was new material off their upcoming album Sonic Nurse. whenever i see them in western Ma. they drop upcoming music on me. i do not mind at all being a crash test dummy.

Sonic Youth:
i love you golden blue
empty page followed by some noise/dead time while Thurston fixed guitar
unmade bed
now I just gotta guess at the order
stones
pattern recognition
mote--->newhampshire
dude ranch nurse
papercup exit
drunken butterfly
rain on tin
mariah carey & ac...

Sonic Youth played Mote!
OMG, I didn't think they played that live, its my favourite SY song. Did they play the whole thing or an edited version?

Also, figures crossed about the semi permanent Sebadoh reuion.
