To be fair, London is full of foreigners, especially Australians, so if you are slagging off London then you are probably slagging off people from other countries just as much. I actually really like London (going for my birthday next month) because it is so cosmopolitan.
You wanna know who the nicest and coolest people in the whole world are??? Australians. That might be a strange thing for an Englishman to say but I lived there for a year and I found the people there to be the best people to be around. They are, on the whole, absolutely fantastic people!!! Love 'em to bits!!!

i am one such 'stupid bloody foreigner', but thank god, not an australian. i don't think London is that full of aussies - it just depends on which part of london you go too....or maybe it's just that i have a natural aversion being a kiwi...who knows.
i have also never been to australia, but i would like to think that NZ'ers are pretty damn nice as well...so make sure you come and visit us on your travels...

I went to New Zealand for the first time a month ago... and the rivalry between Kiwis and Australians is really a funny thing to behold. I won't detail the weekly incidents that made the NZ press fume, as it's very off-topic... I'll just mention that my South African friends, who've been living in NZ for a year now, have already learned not to say "Aussie" but "wanker" (all this being, of course, in jest, but still...).

Hmmmm, friends living in Melbourne told me that The lord of the rings was shot in New Zealand because it saved the producers so much money. The thousands of locals used as extras didn't need any make-up, they all are THAT ugly.
Well, it is a nasty little joke. I like the Kiwis more than the Aussies because the Aussies are sometimes very arrogant about their sporting achievements. The Kiwis play the best rugby and they are never snotty about it. |

Ahem!! England play the best rugby (Union) in that they win more than anyone else, so that's gotta be good!!!
I wanna go to New Zealand 'cos I have relatives there and the place just looks so beautiful. It also has the added attraction of The Lord Of The Rings scenery too. I would love to visit some of the places that appear in the film (like the towers - ). I imagine the locals would be really nice people too!!!
Not gonna be cheap though!!!

i wasn't quoting you - 'stupid bloody foreigner' is just a term a German friend of mine coined for herself when she lived in NZ for a year. i apologize for any offense caused homer.
and homer, it's actually pretty damn cheap to go to NZ because you'll be spending pounds...everything will be dirt cheap for ya. this talk of home is making me all homesick....damn england and its shit weather....well actually NZ has just had it's most devastating floods in a century, so thats not really a fair statement. i'll just reinforce NZ's image by posting this picture of a cow being airlifted out of a flooded cowshed cause i feel sorry for the poor mooloo.

as spaniard i would have to hate french because they invaded spain long timeago but i known that eve Goya, one ofthe best spanish painters (aragones as I am) had to run away because he was accused of being "afrancesado" (French-friend) as many liberal people were by the most reactionary and obscurantist people did, English are also simpathetic to me as the ones I've met were very kind, the most british land i have been is gibraltar, notwithstanding he have there a conflict, tobacco is cheaper and also gas is so why not letting them stay in the Rock. Americans I've met in my life (note my father worked for the US forces in spain) were very nice, they were all Us soldiers but all they loved spain and desired to stay after retirement. Frech do not forget rickenbaker as americans do not forget Lafayette,we in spain remember wellinton and hemingway as well as Nelson, I like better to findlinks amongo countries,as like I love deep differences, I have chauvinism now I love Portugal, people are very nice,I lived in Galicia, that is half Spain half Portugal there are things that are quite the same but there are more than are very different,we have been their foe for centuries, but we have a almost parallel history. The Iberian Peninsula is a crossroad betweeen europe and africa, and we have layer over layer on mmany cultures, greeks, phoenician, romans, german and slav goths, arabs, and more than 40million people come to spain every year, japanese are very fond of spanish culture and Flamenco singing an dancing are very popular in japan. The greatest torero in Spain was John Fulton,i never saw him bullfight but he was in my house once with Robert Vavra, they wrote wonderful books about Sevilla and bullfighting,he was the greatest because no "traje de luces"(bullfighter oufit) was fit for him asbig as he was. When he died not so long ago his coffin was given "la vuelta al ruedo" in la Maestranza "the bullring of Sevilla" by many aficionados to honour his love for Spain Sevilla and bullfighting. World is a wonderfulplacew and there are many places i'd like to visit and even live in. There aremore things thatlink us than those that make us different, but I love the differences also. And also in Spanish we have spanish tortilla ( omelette made with potatoes and even onions) and french tortilla (eggs only) the barras americanas (american Bars) are full of very kind girls and even travestites that make our truckers lifes less difficult, and English week is to work from monday to friday, a "french" may be a fellatio a "Greek" anal sex and so on....

A lot of Spanish people tell me they feel Spaniards and Irish are quite alike.

hey homer.. i love cows too. they are my favourite animal - just ahead of ducks. i think growing up on a diary farm is to blame.
actually, i didn't know there were other colours of ducks apart from the white peking ones until i was 9 years old cause we had hundreds on our farm and they were all white..... yes, i was sheltered.
I am in the UK to do my OE. Finished my MSc, got married and decided we'd try our luck over here. we'll go home in a couple of years cause i would never be able to settle down in England.... NZ all the way!

I don't eat at French places because the servings aren't big enough. I had a bad experience with this hot looking french chick once. Got the clothes off and there was hair EVERYWHERE! Lots of frogs smell bad. I hate french accents. |

Here Here! Though it would have been good to meet the Kiwis in the world cup just so that we beat all of the best before lifting the trophy. It was an injustice that we had to play the Aussies in the final (although so much more sweeter when we beat them yet again.... due to the rivalry) as NZ are a much better team and would have been the final I would have liked to have seen.
Talk about Aussie / NZ rivalry, what about the English / French (after they killed our Princess, boycotted our beef, and supplied the Argies with stinger missiles during the Falklands War ), or English / Welsh. I'm from Bristol so I live a stones throw from the taffs. I heard the English / Scottish rivalry can get quite heated as well, but in all honesty pretty much every Scot Ive met have been great people.

i soo much want to agree with you stuart, but NZ just didn't deserve to play in the final. we could not cope with the pressure when it counted, and the aussies just totally out thought us and out played us when it mattered. australian (and english) rugby teams just seem to have a mentality that we kiwis just cannot quite get when it comes down to the crunch games.
if we had made the final and the conditions had been the same, you english would have won much easier than you beat australia by. if it had been a bright and sunny day with no wind, we probly would have beaten ya....
but it was a superb final, and it was soo enjoyable not really caring about who actually won.

I need to get my hands on a dvd copy of the game, as I was way too pissed to remember. The tension before the game was too much being England / Australia, and to be honest I thought that the convicts were gonna do us at the final hurdle. The great thing was though, I had a bet with my Aussie mate (who is a 40 year old guy from Perth) that whoevers team lost then they would have to get up on a table in front of the whole pub, drop their kecks and do a chicken dance for 30 seconds. I would say that I was the lucky one, but out of sympathy for my mate, I joined him on the table and was promptly dragged out of the bar by the bouncers. Still a great day, one that I'll never forget once Ive got my hands on that DVD.

i'm just waiting for either the irish, welsh or french to beat your pommy behinds in the next few weeks....

It was a later than that over here, more like 7ish in the evening, perfect time for drinking so I was lucky in that respect. Thats great news, I'll have to get someone to bring that over for me.... in fact my mate will be in the UK at the time and will returning to China a few days after 22nd.
I cannot see the Irish, or the taffs giving us too much of a hard time, but the French I think are the ones to potentially cause an upset if they don't blow it. It would be great to see us get the slam again as it will shut all those anti English people who say that we only win because of Wilkinson. I think we are in a good position to get the grand slam again, if we can get it right against the French.

I hate it when english-speaking tourists come up to you asking for direction or other and speak english right away, assuming you'll speak their language. That's really annoying and so gross. I mean, can't you just at least ask "do you speak english?" before ? Or can't you learn three french words ? Like : "Excusez-moi, parlez-vous anglais ?" See ? Is that too much ? Is that too hard ? God. I tell you. Apart from that, I love everybody. |
