GypsyDeath's computer died last night. We attempted to bring it back to life today (marking the longest distance tech support call I've ever handled), but no such luck. The thing is dead...so, it might be some time before she gets back on. Hopefully not that long. My phone bill is going to kill me! Anyway...yeah, hopefully she's back soon, eh.

If I were you I'd invest in a cell phone with a decent calling plan. I get unlimited night and weekend minutes with 500 anytime minutes. Really helps when it comes to phone bills, especially in a distanced relationship! Just a thought, heh.

Don't forget she's in the UK and I'm in the US. I follow John Stamos and use 10-10-987...3 cents a minute and 39 cents to connect to western europe.

If either of us had the money to send text messages! the amount we would send would be exensive...I can use college computer every nown again...but not that much, which is a bit sad!
have to get new computer...have no money. ah well. Might as well begin getting in debt now.

Does anyone know if it's even possible/legal to ship a 27 pound computer from the US to England? Pricy, no doubt, but considering the pound -> dollar conversion is like 1.86, cheaper for her to do this than buy one local.

assuming your monitor is fine you can pick up a pc that is capable of going online, cd rom drive and word (etc) for about £20... won't be great but would get you online and you'd be able to do college work... £200 would get you quite a good one, capable of doing pretty much everything apart from gaming (newish games)...

Yeah, I know. But the thing is I am sick to death of second hand, crap computers.
At the level I am at academically, I can not afford things liek this too happen. I can not operate this way...I cant just keep saying my computere died all the time, because eventualy they will kick me off the course!
I need a reliable, high speed, computer, with a good memory. The way I look at it, if i can get a decent one now, then im saving money in the long run.
Maybe one day ill be able to actually buy a new,decent computer! haha. one day.

Do you have anything you would trade for a good computer? Take that and put it on Ebay. Sell stuff on Ebay and soon enough you'll have the money to buy a decent system. I'd say you need about 700-900 USD for a really great system.
It worked for me. |

don't confuse new computers or expensive computers with reliable computers...  you should be able to get a decent system (again without monitor) for about £300. i'd recommend asking someone you know (in real life) who knows local computer shops and getting one from there... get a good deal and won't get messed about if anything goes wrong. i used to work for pc world, and my mate and girlfriend have Tiny computers, i can't emphasise how much of a rip off and waste of time some of these places/systems are...

I checked Dell for Mel (eEhEheH) and I found a really nice system for around 450 pounds...that's with a 3 year warranty too (minus 99 pounds without that). I was shocked...it included a 17" monitor, 512MB RAM, Celeron 2.7 or so...wasn't a bad system at all for the price, especially for what she's looking to do with it.
