sorry if this has been discussed, or if it's obvious.. but i came to an epiphany listening to FB self-titled that the hook in Tossed is pretty much the exact same as in Blast Off.. yet another song that Frank obviously kicked around for a while before revisiting it and re-working it.

Yeah, but perhaps it's just his brain that works this way, I mean, perhaps he didn't do it on purpose.
Wait, shouldn't this thread be in the General FB Chat?

it could just be coincidence, but they seem way too similar. and Frank has done that with so many other songs, where he'll write something, let it stew for a few years, and then come back to it and change it into something else.
Velvety is the ultimate example of it. there are others though.
also, it's interesting that Tossed says "[instrumental version]" on FB. |

yeah, although like velvety it never had lyrics anyway... however he's played it a few times live with lyrics. and it's really good actually, i just wish he'd record it, on an oddballs or something, with lyrics! as it's good! i like it!
oh my 600th post! i'd like to thank harry and the muffins, without whom i'd never have been able to have done this. keep them juicy my son!

I think I remember reading Velvety did have lyrics at some point previously, but only the instrumental version was recorded. Frank remembered pieces of that previous version when he was writing the one released on Devils Workshop. Maybe? i forget where I read that... |

I think Johnny is right...
Despite the liner notes in the B-Side Collection...I remember him mentioning that he knows he had lyrics of it in a notebook from when he was 15 and that he remembered some of them and just can't find the notebook..hmm...mabe we're both just crazy and pulled that out of our asses, though..

hmhmmm...i wouldn't have noticed, but my musical talent is less then nothing. anyways, on a 1993 bootleg there is 'tossed' with lyrics - and they have nothing to do with 'blast off'. but there is an own thread on this, i think.

Nah... I wouldn't agree. Just a slight similarity between the most prominent riffs, that's all.

Hello, Dr. Floopenstein: I don't think it necessarily is a true predacessor, as has been the case in the past examples. Usually he has been more overt with them. But I honestly do think that "Blast Off" probably came out of the same womb as "Tossed." There's a lot to it that is VERY similar. You can sing "Blast Off"'s melodies along with quite a few sections of "Tossed." I love my Zoom Player.

Actually, I think the verse chord progression in 'King And Queen Of Siam' is very similar to the chorus chord prog. in Pixies 'Dead'. Don't want to get anal(snigger!), but there IS a strong resemblance! |

Actually, the intro/outro to that song is VERY reminiscent of the intro to Ana (different key, same chord progression pretty much)

The outro of 'the thing' is similar to 'the happening'. Now I'm not saying in anyway that these two songs might have a connection. But they just SOUND the same... to me... I don't know, probably just a coincidence. |
