Yeah. I'm looking at it now and I'm not seeing anything. I don't like that. I hope it's straightened out soon.

That is pretty strange. Maybe they're reorganizing the listings or something.. Hopefully it will be back on soon enough. |

So what's the final word on refreshing the browser every few seconds? Is it a good idea or will ticketmaster somehow block me out? |

I'm glad to see that they're trying to dissuade scalpers.

Hey Matt B or who ever is the ticket order taker:
Is it too late to join the club. Can I still put in for some tickets?
I'm planning on having me and my a bunch of friends who arn't into the pixies but are trying to get tickets for me and my two friends (some on-line and some on the phone - I owe them all a round of beers for getting up so early on a Saturday). Hopefully well get some tixs, any extras I will put up here on the board.
The most I would need is 3 (but I will settle for 2). Good choice on the albert, awesome venue.
I saw that disclaimer by ticketmaster just now, does any one know how the heck they would enforce that?

"TICKET PICKUP/MAILING DOES NOT BEGIN UNTIL FEB 24/04"
Well, that's just the second business day after the sale date. I'd love to see them hold off until the beginning of April ... I mean, if they REALLY wanted to keep the scalpers away...
That's what Radiohead did with their tickets from W.A.S.T.E. last year. Didn't mail them out until a couple weeks before the show. Got the fans really nervous, but in the end it was a pretty good idea. |

I think I noticed in small print is that you cant exceed the ticket limit per person using 2 credit cards in your name. If you buy more then the limit with different cards but the same name on them your tickets get cancelled.
"Please adhere to published ticket limits. Multiple orders exceeding the limit, ordered on the same credit card or different credit cards belonging to the same person or at the same address, may be cancelled without notice. **TICKET LIMIT FOR THIS EVENT IS 4 PER CUSTOMER** "

ticketmaster will block you out. Test it you self. I did it and it blocked me for 5 minutes. If you go to the help page it also tells you this.

The thing about picking up tickets two days later is just standard ticketmaster policy. Nothing weird about it.

Ah yeah.. I see. I guess I better not refresh too often... this seems like it could be tricky.
Well, we'll see how it goes. |

How in the world would they be able to 'cancel' a ticket bought on a website?? I think that's pretty much not going to happen... It might scare a few people away from trying though. |

Well, a lot of times these days venues will use bar-code scanners to read your tickets as you enter, rather than rip off your stub. One of the purposes is to prevent the same ticket from being used twice, but I'm sure it could also keep you from entering if the bar code is marked "canceled" in Ticketmaster's database. |

Ya they could do that, but the burton cummings is pretty ghetto I been there a few times ( i live in winnipeg) and for all the shows I've been two they just ripped up my stub, no scanning or anything.
The place is really old it used to be an old movie theatre, my mom used to go there when she was a kid. Its pretty old inside, but the place has amazing acustics......

I was thinking about it and the odds of getting through tommorow adn being able to buy tickets might be a bit tough: Burton Cummings holds 1600 seats assuming each person buys 4 tickets only leaves 400 available slots for tickects the Winnipeg Sun paper says that they will get around 10000 requests for tickets ( abunch of those will be repeats) but still...

But my question is: How would they know which to cancel?? If I buy tickets off e-Bay, ticketmaster might see some for sale, but they won't know which tix I am actually buying... Certainly after this threat a scalper would be foolish to report (prior to the sale) which actual seats he was selling. He cold just say they are in row 6 or 7 near the centre, and leave it at that... |

Vidman -- you are correct. I thought you were just questioning how a ticket could be canceled. Sometimes a seller will include a scan of the actual ticket to prove they actually have them, in which case there might be an identification code there, but you're right -- as long as the seller doesn't do anything stupid, there's not much way for the tickets to be tracked.
However, while this might not be enough to scare the scalpers, hopefully it might be enough to scare away at least a few buyers, keeping the bids a little lower.
The problem would be better solved if all scalpers just spontaneously combusted like ... now. |

Guys, I know ebay doesn't appreciate illegal activites on their site so maybe they have somehow teamed up with ticketmaster and will give personal information on anyone who is selling tickets. Ticketmaster matches up the name with the person who bought the tickets and cancels them. Simple as that. Think about it though, even if that isn't the case just knowing that there is a chance that ticketmaster could cancel the ticket will make tons of people think twice before bidding on one of those auctions.
The point about only 400 transactions being processed if everyone buys the maximum has me worried too. I honestly wish that ticketmaster would limit the amount of tickets able to purchase to 2 or to be honest even 1. I love the pixies and if I had to go by myself I woudln't care, just being able to see them play together once would be more important than anything.

No Pixies fans should combust ... although I wish a severe computer malfunction on all those people suddenly interested in getting tickets for "that band that had that song in Fight Club." |

Limiting to one at a general admission show would be just fine, but I just don't think it could ever be an option with reserved seating. Good idea, though. |

Back in the day, there was a video game for the PC called "Leisure Suit Larry" which was sort of Mature in nature. At the beginning was a short quiz with questions that would determine if you were old enough to be playing.
Maybe ticketmaster should have a short quiz, perhaps "put these albums in order by release date" or "which of the following songs are B-sides" -- that way only fans could buy tickets. ;) |

I remember "Leisure Suit Larry" I used to play that game at my neighbours house when I was like 10. Some of the questions were definitely tough since we were so young and our knowledge of past history was pretty limited. Sometimes it took us so many tries to past the quiz that we would give up and go play atari :) |

I don't know if I've posted this but I'm using my mall security access to get to the TM location before they open the doors for the public. I'm meeting some other fan who I haven't even met at 645 tomorrow morning and I'm takin' her with me. Christ; how old am I? |

Hey, maybe you'll get some action! Two pixies fans alone in a mall. Is there a better recipe for some love?

mattb, us guys always think along the same lines. I'll bring my camera but we only have 15 minutes before the mall walkers show up. Second thought, 15 minutes should be more than enough. |

Add me too the list, I am driving from Boston. My number is 607-227-4547.
The real fair, last minute, easy, random way to distribute is one of these two ways, END OF STORY;
a) post your number as soon as you have extras: whoever calls and demonstrates trust first gets however many tickets.
b) Post that you have aquired tickets. whoever replies PERSONALLY with their own number wins. You call them, collect if need be, and transact to sell them the tix.
This is easy, quick, and ultimately fair. END OF STORY, RIGHT?
I will post my number if I get more than my need (2), on this thread. |
