This may have cropped up before but what does the great man himself dig? I downloaded Peter, Paul and Mary's "500 Miles" and liked it a lot but there will be plenty others I'm sure.

Hey Toeknee, I am sorry I can't remember where, but there is an article that's linked here on the site here I found recently and in it he lists the 15 most influential songs on him and why.
It was a great article. Perhaps one of the most informative about the man I have ever read. All I can remember is that it was in the FB Making Noise section. maybe you can do a search or maybe someone else knows what it was. |

I think I remember that article or at least one where he discusses his musical influences. Great article indeed.

All this is very enlightening, but does anybody actually have the webpage of the article/topic?

It's called Black's Tracks from the Washington Post, I tried to get to it through the (sticky) articles topic but the link appears to be broken.

Here's the original forum discussion, with links to the articles.

You know, I'm perplexed by the author's surprised posed. Frank's selections seem appropriate to the uniqueness and complexity of his music. And all the ones I recognize are REALLY good songs (vs the author's "oh I could only enjoy that one IRONICALLY" nonsense). Brand New Key, You know my name look up the number, mellow yellow, lust for life, gone daddy gonne--Frank has fabulous taste. |

Melanie has a lot of great songs. Awhile back, I picked up a cheap vinyl copy of her early 70s Leftover Wine live album and it got me into her. A lot of her material is really tuneful and witty.
Anyone looking for a good song to download, I recommend "Look What They Done to My Song, Ma". That's my favorite of hers. |

Interesting list. Just reminded me what a great album Aqualung is (Jethro Tull). Also love Thick as a brick.
