Wow, weird to be talking about Kim.
Still great release. It's not streaming or on cd if you ask me. No brainer.
Need this! (would prefer cd but I will take vinyl)

The info is all wrong, this 2LP set is made up from live recordings of the Bossanova/Trompe European tour last year with Emma. I'm so glad we're getting it, the shows were amazing (saw 2 nights in Manchester and 1 night in London). The sound quality on the Come On Pilgrim It's Surfer Rosa Live In London 2LP set is incredible, it's my favorite live recording of almost any band. If this set has that same level of quality, count me super excited. |

Ha that's a shocker press release. Obviously no Kim, but even the year is wrong, it was 2024 no? (I hope I'm not losing my mind...) |

Great! And I totally forgot about Winterlong. So a lot of B-sides are also covered.
Theme from Narc or Evil Hearted You would be nice in the future!

I'm not so much familiar with the record store day - can anybody tell me, if the LP is available for ordering? I'm confused between "sold out" info and "not available yet" info...

normally, record store day exclusive releases are first available in the physical record shop, on record store day. pre-orders are not allowed. so it'd be strange to find an online pre-order for these releases. after record store day, though, everything goes. some shops put their leftovers online. which is interesting for people who can't make it to a record shop, but want to try and get one of these releases.
some shops add all the releases to their webshop in advance, but aren't allowed to start selling them yet. depending on the system they use, this can sometimes look like the item has already sold out. if all goes well, the item will become available that evening, the next day, or not much after, depending on when they can add the stock to their webshop. note that there is absolutely no guarantee that a certain item will become available online after record store day. it is possible they will have sold on the day and that there is no stock left.
on top of that, record store day is typically a massive shit show, with record shops not receiving most of the releases on time to sell them on record store day. on multiple occasions i've visited record shops on the day, to see that nothing i wanted had even arrived. they then told me to try again in a couple of days. couple of days later: nothing. couple of weeks later: nothing. couple of months later: i find the release at discounted price at the same record shop. so they arrived eventually... by then i had already bought the damn thing online. i'm not even going to try anymore to buy RSD releases in the shop on the day. always the same. i've had enough of this.
good news with the pixies is that none of their limited releases seem to sell out. or if they ever do, it takes months. so everyone interested should be able to find a copy online without having to pay massive scalper markups. or if you wait a bit longer, you might even find a bargain.

i might be completely wrong about this not selling out fast. but it is the strategy i'll be following: just try and find a copy online after RSD. i've been stressing too much over previous pixies RSD releases, only to see them still for sale months later, each time.
same with that "come one pilgrim it's surfer rosa live in london" limited release on their website. that was limited to 1,000 LPs and 1,000 CDs, and that took ages to sell out. in fact, the CD still hasn't sold out: https://pixiesmerch.com/collections/music/products/come-on-pilgrim-its-surfer-rosa-live-in-london-cd lol

I'm so glad they released recordings from this tour, I felt it was one that definitely should be documented. I just received my copy today and Bossanova was pretty strong, but i'm listening to the Trompe LP now and I'm baffled by their selection of performances for this. Like, Alec Eiffel has Joey playing the harmony riff towards the end in totally the wrong key, the opening track is also quite rough, and various other points throughout other tracks are really rough and it just feels like they didn't necessarily pick the very best Trompe performances from the tour, which is disappointing considering how many shows they had to choose from. I really wanted this to be a nice alternative version of Trompe to listen to with the modern band but I don't know how much I will be returning to it now... It makes me wonder if there is some non-performance related / technical reason they chose these ones.
edit: further into my listen, the second side of Trompe is definitely a stronger batch of performances than the first side! |

Thanks for the review. The BN/TLM concert (Paris gig) was great, I loved hearing those rare songs, and Trompe is my favorite album by them. But the performance wasn't exactly stellar. Mainly because they kept slowing down the tempo (I blame Dave :( ) - obviously you can't expect a perfect perf when half the songs had never been played before, but I wondered how it would transcribe on record. Now bring the TOTY live recording! THAT was a perfect gig.

I jumped straight to Trompe after picking up the RSD release and like you I was very disappointed.
I actually feel quite taken for granted by the band on this one. They've released some pretty messy live recordings in the past, but they've been important concerts like the first Coachella or the Brixton concerts. But this was a really poor performance including, like you say, Joey playing an entire verse a fret off, FBF not finding his note, the band just all over the place. I'm still upset about it as you can probably tell.
Yes, this is a release for the completists and super fans, but in turn to release something at such a poor standard for that part of the fan base really feels like taking us for granted |

Yeah I recorded the Dublin gig I went to and while there are a few slip ups, some were not nearly as egregious as those that made it onto this release. It's mad to me that this live album could go through the full mixing and mastering process without Tom Dalgety or anyone saying 'wait what's going on with these performances, we're pressing these?' I can only wonder if Tom is not familiar enough with the original Trompe album to know where the mistakes are or, again, if there was some technical reason that limited them to using a particular concert... |

Loved the London show I went to but noticed some of the tempo issues too. And I'm not sure BF ever got the intro to Trompe le Monde right on any of the recordings I've heard! |

Yes, I can't imagine how this slipped through, which leads me to think they don't care.

Record Store Day itself could be a factor
- Do you have product? We want product! - Oh no, you want something, here it is...
This is so disappointing. My two favorite Pixies records, not getting the attention they deserve... again
And yes, some things were totally off during the BossaTrompe-shows (I saw two of them). The bossanova-rhythm after the bridge was ill advised, although it was funny I guess. And the intro of Trompe Le Monde and the waltzing bridge were horrible. As if they gave up during rehearsals. Most of the songs were great though.
I'm seeing Pixies twice next week. Let's hope for the best.

As a music teacher myself I wish I could get an hour with Joey just to teach him how to count |
