Thanks to Brank for helping me on the scoring.
Unfortunately (unless my math is off again which is totally possible) it looks like we have a 3 way tie:
3 votes each for Vegas, Oyster, and Prairie, and 1 for Mercy. Is that right?
Should we do a run off vote on this round of the top 3 vote getters? Or some other idea?
Sorry to prolong this but want to get it right - let me know what you guys think |

I think Fitzy put Vegas Suite over the top with a fourth vote? |

Thank you again Brank! You saved the day again. Sorry everyone for my terrible math skills, I promise I'm not trying to tamper with the results.
Allright, now that we thankfully don't have a run off to worry about, we can start the next round immediately. 6 great tracks left, who will be the next to go?

Ok, I might as well get my pointless vote for Mercy Me in to kick things off. |

These are 6 stupendous songs, but I’ll still with Prairie too even though I can’t stop singing it |

You're all nuts. Oyster Beds isn't amazing but it's the closest to an injection of energy on the whole album, and it's the only thing that feels like the freewheeling days of Teenager of the Year or something. I mean at least this song sounds kind of like the Pixies.
Mercy Me is a boring country song we've all heard 1000 times... |

I feel like you're just trying to antagonize me at this point, haha. It's a late-period Leonard Cohen homage, not a failed attempt at a country song. |

I'm all for energetic 2.0 Pixies songs, St Nazaire is awesome and I even like Baal's back but the 3 on this album are really weak. Like he's forcing himself to write these songs for the Pixies brand. It's quite obvious he'd rather write a full country album at this point. |

I'm so baffled by this reasoning. It could be an homage to anybody, none of that matters. What matters is what you're hearing when you listen to it. A lot of things I dislike are homages to some other stuff, you know? The fact of something being an homage doesn't make it quality. I'm responding to what I'm hearing, not what I read about in a press kit. "Mercy me, I lost my dog in Tennessee" is a very dull, routine, unoriginal melody, and it sinks the song for me. If only the chorus had some originality to it, I would really enjoy listening to the song. The song gets better later on, but that's not exactly high praise. The whole thing should be unique and great. This is a Pixies album, damn it.

I sort of agree with this, but Oyster Beds is still an enjoyable listen compared to the other songs. I like how weird the vocals sound and I like that the structure isn't just the standard verse chorus verse chorus Joey solo thing. It's a bit weirder. Is it an inspired song? I don't know. But it's a hell of a lot more refreshing to me than Mercy Me Mercy Me. |

I of course do not mean to imply that one has to enjoy the song, the line, or the Cohen approach that it's an homage to. Rather, I don't think it should be critiqued as a failed, unoriginal country song, when that's not the genre or tradition that it's working within or aspiring towards. The question is admittedly ambiguous because the genre it belongs to deliberately begins with country or roots cliches and repurposes them in a post-modern fashion as meditations that point toward the transcendent. Whether that's a worthy endeavor in itself is up for debate, but I think the song needs to be evaluated within that framework (or, that the framework itself that needs to be evaluated, which you seem to be doing) rather than whether it succeeds according to the rules of original 21st Century country music. |

Well, is this round over?
It's another tie in the ocean unless my math is off yet again
4 votes each for Oyster Beds and Kings of the Prairie
3 votes for Mercy Me
Somebody double check and then I guess we can just vote off both winners and start the next round |

Yeah, that's my count as well.
If we're moving on, I'll vote for Jane. |

Yeah may as well move on - it was going to be those two next any way, so we can do two for one

Not lobbying but I reckon Jane is one of the band's better songs generally. Nice snakey chord progression slithering between major and minor, an unexpected almost contemporary indie touch with the 'Jane!' shouts in the chorus, and lots of pretty Joey touches. And done in less than 3 mins. |

I'll state it outright: To pick Jane over Mercy Me is completely crazy. It is so much more interesting musically and lyrically. It's one of the few songs on the album that sounds like something I hadn't heard before from Frank or the Pixies. |
