Sadducee made its debut last night in Copenhagen. Unless there is another setlist retraction, the whole album was indeed played live throughout the night. |

And yes, Paz definitely meeting the "weird" qualification of being a Pixies member toward the end there, loved it, whatever it was |

She's playing the moog with the foot pedals for the outro of the song isn't she? |

@Jason: yes, and it looks like she’s using it on other songs, too. I’m really glad they introduced those songs in their set. It brings so much fresh air and the audience seems to appreciate it. The really should keep them in the rotation. Now I’m waiting for a good Saducee version, it sounds like they messed up the harmonies on this one. The others absolutely rocks.

They didn't play it last night It was also missing Thunder and Lightning
(And most of Bossanova and Trompe but that's another point)
Great show with lot's of energy and a full house (Some very young people too)

It's great either way, but live I think I like Break my Body when Black plays acoustic. |

These Doggerel Tour setlists are great. One of them they played 10 Doggerel songs in a row! That's really something |

Not everyone likes that But the Pixies aren't just a nostalgia act
Wish they would play more of the other 2.0 too

damn this is making me a little bit more upset they haven't come to ireland this time around. my biggest wish every time seeing pixies is that they would play more new material. seeing most / all of doggerel sounds like a dream gig. |

Nice gig, they played the whole damn Doggerel record plus Human Crime, except Dregs/Sadducee. Should be available later on the Arte Concert website.

Birmingham setlist
Wave River Human Crime Head On Isla Broken Face Crackity Planet Vault Who's More Sorry Now? Haunted House Get Simulated Pagan Man Ana (confusion over the key towards the end) - Charles apologised Death Horizon All the Saints HCYM
Show paused to fix the barrier
Ana (reprise) Mr Grieves Brick is Red Break My Body Holiday Vamos Motorway Thunder Lord Moon Gouge Debaser Tired Hey Doggerel Nomatterday Caribou Wave (UK surf) WIMM Winterlong
A mixed bag, but not the fault of the band. It was quite apparent during the first Doggerel songs that there was a problem with the barrier at the front. Show paused for five mins while it was inspected.
Some great moments (Paz seemed to be adding some pedal Moog to the Motorway outro, which I haven't noticed before), but the band seemed a little frustrated by a few things.
Hoping for a better show in Cardiff! |

Mixed bag for London #1. Band in a really good mood, playing a bit loose and enjoying their occasionally fluffs.
Dave's changed his drumming again which has changed a few of his patterns. Paz was having a whale of a time and even Charles cracked a few smiles
Still not won over by the new stuff, there's none of that BTE punch or variety. Never caught myself checking the time at one of their gigs before but it dragged in places. Enjoyable amount of Trompe (nothing 'new' though.)
Why are Slow Readers Club still a thing? I may be in the minority but they're painfully dull. |

Interesting to hear a couple people say that the new material from Doggerel drags.
Wonder if people feel that anything 2.0 drags.
And wonder if that is why they have been lumping the Doggerel songs together
For the thousandth time I love so much 2.0 material (especially doggerel) but I can’t imagine a concert making sense where Isla de encanta is followed by Haunted House.
Today when I was shuffling songs Debaser was followed by Talent and I was like, “yeah, Talent sounds pretty lame right about now.”
All that aside, love that they are doing what they are doing with the doggerel tour |

For the thousandth time also, yeah. I was watching the show from the youtube link on this page and as much as I like the Doggerel songs, they just fall kind of flat live...kind of by themselves but REALLY in contrast with the older Pixies stuff. They're nice songs with some great hooks and ideas in the arrangements, but they don't get a crowd excited. And I keep trying to think of why, because a song like Here Comes Your Man is fairly pleasant and conventional but the crowd goes insane for it and it's so exciting...but a Doggerel song that's maybe even more interesting seems to not go over well. It's hard to tell from a video, of course. Like I love Thunder and Lightning, that one has really grown on me, but hearing it in the middle of a Pixies show is just a baffling experience. It's as if they started playing Stupid Me or I'll Be Blue or something from a Catholics album.
I should add though that I am 100% in favor or the band doing this. I WANT them to play new songs and embrace them and do what they feel like doing. I get really bummed out seeing a setlist that is like 95% old material. |

I'm not sure if banking them altogether helps or not. Clearly minimising guitar swapping is a factor behind playing them like this (many of the Doggerel songs are capoed third fret for BF, unlike the rest of the Pixies catalogue). They're pleasant songs but some, like Vault of Heaven, go on far too long.
Obviously this limits how easily they can weave new material in as well as on previous tours. The BTE stuff sounded amazing from the start.
Pagan Man seems a bit of a challenge for BF to sing live at the moment.
That said, there are a lot of happy faces at the shows. Absolutely loved seeing people around me hearing the classics for the first time. |

The Doggerel stuff is all relatively low key compared to everything else they've done for 2.0 - there's no What Goes Boom or Um Chagga Lagga. It's just missing a bit of a kick up the arse and some variety. There are no real juicy hooks or big choruses. That's what HCYM has by the bucketload and why people go crazy for it - interesting or pleasant just don't move a crowd in the same way.
I feel like I'm being a bit mean spirited, they were still great last night and I'd take Pixies playing new stuff over almost any other band.
What happened to Um Chagga Lagga and Classic Masher? I thought they had the potential to become staples but they seem to be out for good at the moment. |

No real changes for the second night, bit of a rotation for 4-5 songs.
Good to see Blown Away sticking around. They're in decent shape for their US dates. |

What surprises me the most is that the BTE and Doggerel-songs have more in common with Bossanova and the less rocky Trompe-songs, but they almost skip those records? And the other 2.0 output too.
They focus on COR-SR and Doolittle but that doesn't fit with the last 2.0 direction. To be honest everything 2.0 has a more Bossanova and Trompe vibe to me
"Banking them together" (Ziggt) is also a bit too much for the audience I guess.
I'm not complaining. I went to the gig because they play that stuff. Would not buy tickets to another COR-SR-Doolitle-fest.
And of course Pixies can do whatever the hell they want
Doggerel (title track) would be great next to The Happening and before The Navajo Know or Daniel Boone Pairing Lovely Day with Haunted House and Dig For Fire Dregs of the Wine with Hang Wire and Tromple Le Monde (title track)
Magdalena with Thunder and Lightning
(just skip Pagan Man altogether, if you can't reach those notes)

I do think Dregs of the Wine is maybe one of the only Doggerel songs that could KICK ASS live. I hope they do it. Unless they did and I missed it somewhere. It has the spirit of classic Pixies, a great hook, and some weirdness and a lot of allowances for some live looseness.
I think "It's just missing a bit of a kick up the arse" really sums it up. There's a scariness and violence (and confidence?) to the classic Pixies that is completely absent in the new live songs, which is fine...but it makes the show feel more like two totally different bands than ever before. |

I was at the Roundhouse gig on Monday and I thought most of the Doggerel songs sounded great! Especially Simulated, Sorry, No matter day, Doggerel and Lord. Yes it dipped a bit for the second Doggerel part (Dregs, Vault, Pagan). But the news tunes were getting a good reaction in the side I was on. And I have to say I was bit bored during Planet, Head On and Something against you, maybe have just heard them too many times (although does not seem to matter for Euphrates or Bone Machine). Anyway I fully agree I would love to see some more 2.0 into mix, Plaster of Paris, Classic Masher, Magdalena, Green n Blues, Oona, Bird of Prey. Would be great. |
