Human Crime was like a pandemic, long-distance-recorded one off though right? Not part of the January session or December songwriting flurry. I assumed it wouldn’t be on the new album.

| This is going to be a difficult album to abbreviate or shorten...it can't be 'dog' as that will confuse it with dog in the sand. So it's probably going to end up being 'dogger'! With that kind of connotation I hope there's no molesting in the parking lot! |

Very nice interview with Paz.
Some nice info:
- Ana and Havalina are two of her favorite songs to play (wow, just imagine them playing those every night)
- At her audition she played 10 songs, Alison was one of them (that one should be a concert staple too!)
And the story behind Long Rider and Los Surfers Muertos with some more detail and feeling (because the interviewer also knows the surfer in question).

Interesting to see Black express affinity for “pissing on the Pixies.” Maybe that’s what he’s doing with 2.0. Maybe I misinterpreted. (All these maybes are making me think of Seargant Dignam in The Departed ) |

I wonder where would be Mr Thomson's mind these days without those who followed and supported him buying his "obscure" records and going to his "obscure" shows... ;)

Velouria by Weezer is my favorite cover that band does (they do a lot of them, sadly) and one of the only Pixies-covers I can stomach.
It's also one of their best recordings, a classic sound, but not from their so called classic era. (Weezer 1.0 if you will)

Weezer covered Velouria?
I can't listen to that - Velouria is a sacred Pixies song and must never be touched by another band
There was a couple of albums going round a few years ago of bands covering Pixies songs and some of them were quite good - don't remember the Weezer one though - it was probably underwhelming or I invoked a head fatwa on it or something
I think I liked the Hannah Peel one whatever it was one of the wishy washy Bossanova ones I think - no it was Julie Peel and it was The Happening
I'm listening to it now - suitably dreamy a song for her style |

Actually, when I first heard that Weezer cover I thought... it sucked. But at the time I was very much into obscure bands and stuff...

Knife and Fork band do Motorway to Roswell. Not too fussed about the vocals but the music is Eric Drew Feldman. Sounds a bit like O My Tidy Sum.

TMBG-cover is pretty great, but the robotic Havalina sounds a bit jokey to me. Too much contrast with the beautiful melody for my taste.
That being said I love the arrangement

Correct...TMBG, mainly late-period TMBG (ie after 2000) have this thing that bothers me sometimes, where one of their songs would be perfectly fine and maybe even beautiful and touching, but then they throw something wacky on top and it kind of crumbles the whole thing. I think they want to stand out or something...but a more straight forward Havalina cover would have been wonderful. |
