Most of my colleagues and myself will be doing "home working" through Remote Desktop starting Monday and I'm the IT. I'm not scared about the virus but I'm scared about my servers .

Reading the readings on it.

The Dean Koontz thing is interesting, predicted "Wuhan virus." Same with the Sylvia Brown thing. Both in 2008.

Covid in Hebrew is Kobe, and Kobe Bryant is buried in Corona CA.

Anyone else have any good ones?

Yeah I just saw something on the Koontz thing but I guess the lab's proximity just marks it out.

I'm in the UK where boffins believe most need to get infected so we can develop herd immunity . Meanwhile the rest of Europe is desperately trying to shut the stable door after the horse has coughed over everybody. Who is right? Guess we're going to find out very soon. May be a case of nice knowing you.

Article sharing some thoughts from musicians on post-COVID19 living. For Troubles a Foot there's some TMBG on there. Enjoy?

Hey, thanks so much for that. I am always looking to be updated on the latest TMBG content. Good quote from Flansburgh. Thank you!

I am slowly starting to work on an old unfinished album from years back as a way to occupy myself during this time. The thing is my anxiety has been through the roof which is actually not very good for my productivity or creativity. It makes me want to lie on the couch and watch tv, not work on music. I guess it's more like depression but I hesitate to use such a loaded term.

Anyway, today I accomplished (and this is not a joke) picking up my guitar from one end of the room and placing it near my computer, so that I could record it some day soon. Yeah.

For those that missed the news post on the main page/news ticker, FB shared the following:

quote:
From Frank Black

"When I was a boy, we used to bang pots and pans outside at midnight on New Year's Eve. I've been inspired seeing those clips of the quarantined Italians singing from their balconies. I propose this action to you today:

No matter your state of health or political views or age or education or philosophy, I ask you to greet the night at 6 PM local time by banging the pot long enough so that I can hear you, but not so long that you disturb our present contemplation.
If you have no pot to play then play two spoons; play your tune on your porch and in your garden and at your window sill. And if you are feeling too ill to come to the window, I hope you will hear us banging for you and you can smile with us!
I'll be listening for you tomorrow night and every night at 6 PM.

Very weird. I just logged in, started watching the periscope thing, checked the time (here in UK), and it was exactly 6pm. I would never do that to my Le Creuset pans though. Somebody needs to let Frank know not to do that to his Le Creuset pans.

You are completely right. That shows some serious ignorance and/or decadence. Others save for months to afford these pans!

It's now generally understood that the government here in the UK took entirely the wrong approach the last 4 weeks by allowing flights to continue from badly affected areas; Italy, China etc and doing nothing to limit social interaction. Now it's in a desperate scramble to quickly reverse all this though the public messaging is confused. Result? Panic. Crossing our fingers. We hoped for the best and prepared for the best. The worst is headed our way like a tsunami and our over-funded, chronically under-performing, socialised health system is already saying we won't cope.

That people die from a virus is one thing. That they die for want of treatment is quite another. The former does not offend our civilisation. The latter certainly does. Those that say diseases kill, too bad, carry on, are willfully ignoring what's doing the bulk of the killing. Not the disease but the want of treatment due to sheer number.

I am hearing some people say the country where it originated sat on the news for a while and then it was too late. But before it was here we all knew it was there.

Hard to know what to make of it.

Some say worst to come, worst is here, worst is over.

Some say Great Depression 2.0 on horizon. Death horizon?

I am in NYC but have no idea what is going on as I have not left my apartment/two block radius around my place in like two weeks. I also don't look at the news much because it gives me too much anxiety. But I know 13 people in the neighborhood next to mine died and I am now considering shortening the two block radius to one block.

Talk in UK is focused on securing income for the self-employed/freelance sector which grew hugely here after the 2008 crash and also on providing our health system with the gear it needs. So yes, that includes ventilators. It's hard wrapping my head around what's going on all over the world. I'm still thinking of the dignified people of Bergamo, Italy and what they've already been through.

Was just thinking about the old days on this forum when we used to exchange mix cd’s for a while. Those were extremely fun for me. After watching some Instagram live feeds this past week from performers i like and then seeing Frank’s periscope video I think it would be kind of neat to arrange a FB.net live party of some kind. Maybe this Friday or Saturday night? Of course someone more technical than this Gen X’er would probably need to figure out how to do that! Anyway- throwing this out to the universe!

I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything

I'm not American but I'd be reassured Fauci and Birx are the public face of science. In UK we have Whitty and Vallance and lately Harries and they are doing their considerable best.

Here's a lovely bit of art that has come out of all this isolation we're going through:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p09hpKAv9Jc

It's the Colorado Symphony playing Beethoven's "Ode to Joy," quarantine-style.

Lovely indeed but did you have to rub us Brexiteers up the wrong way with what has since been appropriated by the European Union as their 'anthem' (implying they are a nation - which they most emphatically are not!)?

On appropriation of Beethoven, I'm reminded of something Costello said by way of introduction before performing his song Poor Fractured Atlas. If you're going to steal, steal from the best. Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, at least it used to be.
