Setup
Welcome to our second tribute album. Where the last album was exclusively Frank Black, this one is Pure Pixies. As the last album was a resounding success, at least according to Time Magazine*, we will operate this one in much the same manner.
The first step is the sign-up. You sign up by posting on here which song you’d like to cover. To avoid conflict please choose a song no one has claimed. If you really want to do a song being done currently, I will allow up to and no more than two (2) people to do the same track. No more than one track may be selected per forum member and no covers that the Pixies did (ex: Honeypie) will be accepted. Finally, all tracks must have more than one instrument and vocals to be accepted.
After sign-up, we move on to the production/recording phase. You will have no more than two months to complete this, so if you’re certain that is not going to be enough time, please don’t sign up.
From there, we go into selection mode. All tracks are chosen by the executive producer of the project, which happens to be me. The selection process is similar to the previous album, so if you’re unclear about what it takes, please download it and give it a listen. Generally, tracks are chosen based on originality (or trueness, depending on what the artist is going for), quality, and effort. There is no attempt to select specific genres or avoid others, just to get the best sounding disc in the end.
Tracks not chosen will be equally available through FTP download as “b-sides”, so nobody really loses out in the process. Everyone that hears the album will likely hear the b-sides as well.
Finally, after the tracks are chosen, our resident recording engineer, Tim “Atheist4Catholics” Franklin, will be mastering the selected tracks to give the project a polished and cohesive feel.
About one month after the recording phase begins, we will start having local artists work on artwork for the album including cover, booklet, insert, and cd-label. The artwork will be posted and voted on by members of FB.Net, and will be finalized during the mastering process.
Sept. 30/03 – Deadline for signing up.
Nov. 30/03 – Deadline for submitting finished tracks
These deadlines ARE set in stone as this ‘CD’ is slated to be completed prior to Christmas.
