edit: Actually, nah. The quality of that video is not good enough. I'm mostly interested in the close-ups of Paz and they're just not usable. |

Now, both the Pixies and the Breeders are sharing the same song on tour. Like Magazine and Buzzcocks back in the interesting days... We shall expect a Pixies/Breeders double bill in a not too distant future. That will be fun... just fun, like Kim and Donald shaking hands...

I was at this very show and was blown away by Paz' stellar version of Gigantic. And I'll be seeing the Breeders when they're here just a few weeks from now. I'll provide a full comparison of the two Gigantics  |

Saw Pixies play Gigantic in Nashville and Anaheim this year, both times sounded great, and very Pixies. Saw The Breeders play it last fall in LA, it was good but didn't sound as good as Pixies are playing it, and that is because Kelley is no Joey and Jim is no Dave. The Breeders version sounded like a cover and Pixies sounded more like the original. Thanks to 3 original members still playing it, and Paz singing and playing it as well as anyone out there could.
I'm seeing The Breeders again tomorrow, we'll see how it sounds a year later.

From what I've seen on youtube the Breeders' version of Gigantic is a bit more of a mellow pop take on the song. I like it- it fits their style, and I'm pretty partial to Kelley's guitar work in general.
Q: Where do Pixies keep their instruments when they're not playing?
A: Debasement. |
