MASSIF CENTRAL[E] I noticed that too but was not quite sure...most rocking song indeed! I agree 100%. That second verse falsetto reminds me why I love his music so much. I think that the contrast of his falsetto singing with the music makes the whole song rock even more. |

I like The Snake the best. And Horrible Day. And Goodbye Lorraine. And Massif Centrale. Everything is New as well. Not so much Manitoba.

Strangely enough, I really enjoyed Nadine... until I heard the whole LP. I'm not saying Nadine is a bad song - in fact it's quite a good intro - but, compared to the other SMYT songs, it lacks something (subtlety ? generosity ?). On the other hand, I didn't really like Everything Is New at first, but the more I listen to SMYT, the more I appreciate it. Now it's one of my favorite songs.

I don't care for "Nadine" as much on the album as I did the live versions. If you were there when they play it live the chorus just blows you away.. loudest part of the whole night.
Same can be said for my preference on "New House of the Pope", because of the new piano intro they use now instead of the more plain sounding one on the album.

All the SMYT stuff really rocks live - Nadine and Manitoba are indeed totally different live (Nadine is probably better live than on the album) - Frank seems to be really passionate with the new stuff when he does it live, and there seems to be a spark there that isn't always there when he's doing older "standards".
