I'll never get why Trompe is viewed as the ugly duckling, even by the band members. I honestly think this record is probably one of their finest work. And simply a major work of art.

Best part of the Style Weekly interview:
Are there any of Charles’ solo songs that you wish were Pixies songs?
Hmmm. I never thought of that. Yeah, I’m sure there are. Maybe a song like “Los Angeles” or “Soda Jerk” I think that’s the name.
Soda Jerk? No respect. |

That sure is a great question, and a great answer.
It gives me hope that maybe Frank and the band are just unaware of how many people would love to hear those songs.
And Joey probably thinks they play a song called Extinction, so not knowing the names isn't really that big a deal.
Hearing either of the two Joey mentioned would be great |

I'd love to hear it, but I can't really think of Joey playing lead on Frank Black stuff. He's very unique and of course he's the best at what he does on Pixies songs, but Frank Black solo stuff is another story. More professional or skilled on a musical level I would say. But I sure miss those songs. |

Didn't read the whole thing yet, but I like that the writer opens up by just going off on audience expectations. Frank doesn't owe anybody anything.
If you made a pie chart of the Pixies, how big would each slice be for the five members?
Without thinking about it too much, I would probably do something like:
Frank:80 Kim: 7 Joey: 7 David: 5 Paz: 1 |

Did Joey wrote all of his guitar parts ? If he did, well, he's just a fucking genius and deserves a larger part of the pie.

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.
Dave's volume was way low, Frank moved off camera, questions sounded like they were coming from a Kindergarten teacher, she asked about Beatles vs Elvis and Frank answered Beatles vs Stones
That was a great way to spend ten minutes! |

Pixies looks so bored/uncomfortable in recent interviews. I just hope the lame questions are the main reason. I understand it gets a bit boring to be asked "hey, what's your favourite song ?" for the thousand time though. But it was a bit painful to watch !

You can tell Pixies are in this business to write, record, and perform music. Everything else is just part of the job, and not the reason they're doing it for. I don't blame them for looking bored during these countless unending interviews. I bet Charles and Paz are so sick of talking about All I Think About Now at this point... |

Just watched it through all the way again, helped get me through my commute.
I really think it should end up in the bonus materials somewhere in a future Pixies / Frank box set. It's absolutely brilliant. "Any bands you're into now?" "I honestly can't think of any." "That's okaaaaaaay!!!!"
Best interview they've done in a long time, and better than several 2.0 songs. |

At least I finally got what he meant by "Beatles dag or Stones dag".
He first mentioned it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-Zuvem39yA @2:54.
Even during the most annoying interviews, you always learn something funny with Black Francis. Useless but funny.

"You know...there reaches a certain time in a man's age, where you just wanna.. be accepted in a variety of situations and... contexts...(and you) don the jacket. It just gets you through a lot of situations with a lot of guff. Is that a word? Guff?"
I'll be using this "don the jacket" answer from time to time. Brilliant stuff here. Reminds me of old Letterman. |

That is a great interview. It's good to hear Joey open up a bit about his struggles.
He sounds clear-headed and happier with himself, which makes me happy and hopeful as well.
I'm-a-gonna cross my fingers for "Oona" on Colbert, but I have a feeling it will be "Classic Masher..."

Cool. Nice from Conan & Colbert to reschedule the Pixies performances instead of just cancelling. And it's great to hear Joey is getting his self-esteem back.
