Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen? REM a bit maybe.
I like it but it's not as good as Sauna Youth or the the the Pixies.
Whatever it is it's a song and I like it and I think it fits in with the topic of this thread. |

Violet was banging on about them on facebook a few years ago, but I confused them with something else about mouse.
This is about the most earliest Pixies sound I think I have heard any band derive influence from succesfully. Well done. I like this a lot. |

Grouplove "Raspberry" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mldevqBA4HM
Link not available in my country, however there's always an alternative such as this

Also very Pixies indeed. You guys are picking tunes that really actually sound like they are by the Pixies from an alternate timeline where they didn't split up in 1992.
Always helps to include the title of the track in the post in case of emergency. I like this very much. |

Great song, with heavy Pixies influence. I love the whole album, 'Here comes the wind'. Anyone know what happened to these guys? |

Preoccupations (fomerly Viet Cong)- Continental Shelf

Not sure how Pixies this is, but it is solid indie rock with some screaming and screeching guitars. |

They are Thom York's 'other' favourite band, Miracle Legion. The track is 'All For The Best' from 1987 album Surprise Surprise Surprise. Thom York covered the track for a tribute album.
Dave and Scott (Catholics) joined the band in early 90's.
Funny you mention REM - they get compared a lot. A bit like how the Pixies and Nirvana get compared but regrettably Miracle Legion didnt get the same recognition as their peers after they broke up or during their reunion this year.
But for a real Pixies sounding song try this from the Gun Club, For The Love of Ivy from 1981 album Fire of Love. Closest thing I've heard to early Pixies. Or rather early Pixies is closest thing I've heard to early Gun Club!

Stevio10- that might be some of the most Black Francis sounding vocals I've heard from someone that's not him. Sounds a bit like Come on Pilgrim era Pixies I think. |

Huzzah - agreed! Know if the Pixies have ever cited them as an influence? |

The Gun Club kind of got lumped in with the LA punk/rockabilly scene along with X. Know BF has mentioned X several times as an influence so there's probably some awareness to their material.
Read that a solo Black Francis opened for them in 1990 in Holland.
Like the Pixies or FB their sound changed over the years, later stuff is less manic and less in common as a direct parallel. Fire of Love and Miami are 2 great albums though!
Here's another of my fave early 80's tracks, one of Rich Gilbert's old bands, Human Sexual Response - Guardian Angel. Reminds me a little of the Cars but with a crazier vocalist!
