Thinking of going to the Wales gig. Never been to Cardiff before so I could make a wee holiday out of it. |

Any videos of Motorway or Blown Away available?
Only Magdalena from IC. And some songs from it still never played live? Bossa through IC seem to be the neglected albums live. Seems like HC songs will be played a lot for years to come. |

It's kinda sad, I feel like the Pixies setlists have been kind of cultivated to please the most amount of audience members, and it seems like most general Pixies fans are most familiar with Doolittle/Surfer Rosa and to some extent Come on Pilgrim. So those albums are represented very well in every show. We're lucky to get more than one or two at most songs each off of Bossanova/Trompe/IC these days. |

i disagree with that. cultivated, possibly. but i don't get the "oh, there's no bossa or trompe". people have been saying that for years, but i think there's enough of it, and there has been for a while now.
i see three songs off bossanova and three off trompe le monde on that vienna setlist. not bad, in my opinion. it was way less when they first came back in 2004 (velouria and u-mass, if you were lucky). they've added more songs since.
only indie cindy is a bit ignored here. this may very well be because they prefer a certain level of audience response, and those songs haven't been doing too well. or maybe they had to make room for the head carrier songs that are being "presented" this tour (promoting the new album). dunno.

Do they write their setlists on this tour ? On the last tour BF was just calling for songs. So, they can play almost anything except the Bossa & Trompe usual suspects that they won't play ever again (mostly the "Feldman" ones + a few others).

Great show in Vienna on Tuesday. Real great. I saw them 3 years ago, at the same venue, same month and also first gig of the Euro-tour and I was disappointed. They were lame and seemed to be fed up. Not on Tuesday: they seemed content, even happy, even joked around without using words. They played superhumanly, and behaved humanly. Are they human? Songs: just Magdalena from IC and a couple from HC. The rest mostly pleasing classics from SR and DL and some rare gems from BN and TLM. The new songs sound good live, they play them faster and shriller, they play them like Pixies-songs. Black Francis yelled at us the whole evening without ever getting tired or hoarse and we were thankful for that. It felt like I was 18 again and it was 1989.

For the record:
1st Paris gig in 2013: Motorway to Roswell , Ana , Blown Away , Winterlong , The Sad Punk , Velouria , Havalina Planet of Sound , Head On , Rock Music
2nd Paris gig in 2013: Allison, Is She Weird , Subbacultcha, Distance Equals Rate Times Time, Alec Eiffel, U-Mass
Paris gig in 2005: Subbacultcha, Stormy Weather, The Sad Punk, Is She Weird, Allison, Head On, U Mass, Planet Of Sound, Alec Eiffel
So yeah, they could do a bunch of songs from the 2 albums. That's what would make me buy tickets for next week's gig. I's a pity they don't.

I didn't say there's "no Bossanova or Trompe" I said we're lucky to get more than one or two at most songs each off of Bossanova/Trompe/IC these days.
Vienna was lucky. They got 2 or more from Boss and Trompe, 1 from Cindy. Poland was similar. Doolittle and Surfer get between 6 and 9 every show. So that's what I'm saying, those albums that are more popular with more people get a greater representation.
All I'm saying.

And they cultivated that themselves. Bossanova and Trompe are filled with classics in my book

100% agree Bill. No down turn at all. Think Bossa is my No 1. Just a beautiful record. |

i saw them last friday, in antwerp. it was good, but a bit sloppy. sloppier than normal. http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/pixies/2016/lotto-arena-antwerp-belgium-23fbac87.html
i was surprised they played all the saints and all i think about now. i wasn't expecting those two. on the other hand, there was no head carrier, talent, tenement song, classic masher or oona. i was definitely expecting some of those... also, we got 6 songs off bossanova. heh. :) has that ever happened?
baal's back was one of the highlights for me. and motorway to roswell too.

They always have been pretty sloppy, but it gets a bit worse with every tour. They can play an awesome show one day, and then be really sloppy the next day.
I just hope their slopiness is due to exhaustion/jet lag/technical issues and not drug-induced.

Amsterdam, yesterday
Where Is My Mind? Nimrod's Son (great energy) The Holiday Song Brick Is Red Break My Body Blown Away (nice surprise) Vamos (not that thight, Joey's solo was not that great, took forever too) Mr. Grieves (great) Winterlong (very nice) All the Saints (could have been executed better, but amazing song) Here Comes Your Man La La Love You (meh, Dave was playing great this evening, but this song is not my favorite) Ana (extraordinary) Motorway to Roswell Magdalena 318 (first song with electric guitar for Frank) Bel Esprit Monkey Gone to Heaven Tenement Song Classic Masher (one of the best songs of the evening, musically. So much drive) Talent Crackity Jones (Frank was getting into it here) Isla de Encanta (great scream mid-way) Rock Music (lot's of echo, but great energy) Baal's Back (balance between the guitars went missing in my opinion from this song to the end) Oona (instant classic) U-Mass I've Been Tired Subbacultcha All I Think About Now (such a nice song) Hey Gouge Away Debaser Tame
Encore: Into the White (lot's of smoke)

Nice, how does it sound? (Not able to download at the moment...) I'm particularly curious to hear Talent, that and Plaster of Paris are the only two Heard Carrier songs that I still haven't heard live versions of... |

in antwerp, they played "you know my name (look up the number)" from the beatles right before the band came on stage. did they use the same song on the other shows of this tour?

They walked on to it tonight
Was fun, bouncier that the Brixton date during the summer. Think they played all of Head Carrier, they dropped quite a few of the standards from the setlist and we got at least 3 IC tunes. Charles fluffed IC twice before giving up on it. |
