Nice! Wow what a cool little tune! Man it sounds to me like the Pixies are really hitting a new stride now that the drama and pressure of IC are behind them. They sound so relaxed. It's a new golden era for fans of Charles' special brand of art. It's an exciting time to be a fan!

Is that some kind of glitch? How do they have a whole song, that's not a released single, up for sale |

Can't buy it from my location and can't find it on Amazon.fr. Sigh.
Maybe this is the next single and Amazon (U.S.) released it a few days too soon ?

Ugh. Love it. Was about to go to sleep for the night, but now i'm up re-listening over and over and grinning like a fool the entire time.
Really cool song, it's Pixies fore sure but unlike anything they've done before. Really nice. Can't wait for the rest of the album!!!!! |

The clip is much better when it's heard in context with the rest of the song. |

I like the snippet (won't talk about compression again, we know it's there and it's awful, but whatever).
Hope amazon will replicate this glitch(?) in Europe, I want to listen to the whole song now.

I bought it. It's a fun song. Not much depth to it. Sounds like a Frank Black song to me. Paz's bassline in the verse stands out. Joey's guitar work seems fine but there isn't a lot of nuance to it. BF's delivery could've used a bit more mania, haha. Lyrics wise it's simple.
Overall I have found myself singing it to my kids, so I guess that's good. |

Maybe it's the next single, but that seems strange...I thought for sure it'd be Classic Masher, which has "sunny summer radio pop" all over it |

Wow. That didn't take long.
First impression: This is a really nice little pop song. Like Another Toe, but done right. |

Intro and verses are really great and fresh I don't like the choruses that much (lyrics, repetition...) Seems that his collaboration with Art Brut may have have inspired him this kind of rhythm and chord progression (and transpositions)

Same here. Reminded me those 2 songs BF performed with Bowie onstage nearly 20 years ago.

Maybe you should put the video in unlisted mode to avoid any trouble. (Thanks a zillion time for posting it btw- I will buy the song legally when it's available in my country)
I suppose Wilson could tell us about this mystery. Amazon glich ? Next Single ? No reaction from the band yet.
(Don't think this will be next single now. Cause of the F-word.)

Was listening to Head Carrier today (the song). Does anyone think that this was maybe re-worked from what was originally Banks of the Drain? Of has BF just been writing about a lot of drains lately. |

Enjoying it a lot. Thanks for uploading!
And sdon, yes, reminds me a bit of 'Alcoholics Unanimous' - from the FB-produced Art Brut vs Satan. |

Comments ranging from great to pedestrian. I'm leaning towards the latter. Better than most of IC at least. It also sounds a tad like something the New Pornographers would write so that's a plus. I'm yearning for Baals or Head Carrier but I'm hoping the production doesn't flatten them. |

After a few listens I'm thinking that Talent wouldn't sound out of place on the Complete B Sides compilation, and would be one of the weaker tracks.

i like it. i like how different it is to ucl. i am getting ready for a playful album which is what i've been hoping for. we all have our notions as to what the pixies SHOULD sound like but variety is a great sign as far as i'm concerned. i'm not an IC hater but it didn't set me on fire either - if i had to characterize my problem with it, it would be how uniform it is.
the other thing i like about talent is how 'frank black' it is. i would like to see charles thompson just keep doing his thing as opposed to 'resurrecting' some kind of pixies 'headspace' or brand. just keep cranking it out - the silly, the giddy, the sad and the mad. trust the others to 'pixie' it up.

The rest of the album will sound the same. Muffled drums & lead guitar. Comp... Limting... Definitely disappointing for those heavier (and more dynamic) songs.
Was a bit concerned about Dalgety production after hearing Chagga. Now it's pretty clear the whole album will sound like this.
I'm more than pleased with the new songs, but I'll probably listen to live performances rather than the album. Maybe it's marketed for younger audiences that like this kind of sound. Dunno. Maybe I'm getting old.

Would Talent (or even Um Chagga) make you into the rabid Pixies can you are today if you had heard it 25 years ago? Would it do for you what any of their songs on the first albums did for you? And if it were on an FB solo album would your judgment be more lenient? |

I understand what you are getting at but none of us can really answer this question. Plus, the Pixies of today aren't really aiming to get a ton of new listeners onboard. They are preaching to the converted and basically having fun at this point. Seems to me the songs are reflecting that, whether we all enjoy the more simple approach or not. I personally am not in love with Talent but it's an album track that may fit as a fresh little palette cleanser during the thing.
I was hoping for more uptempo stuff with the new album and at least in that regard it seems they have obliged. That alone helps me enjoy the new stuff. Now the lack of complexity with the lyrics and arrangements kinda bums me out, but I've gotta let that go. They aren't college kids looking at the world from those eyes anymore. And they aren't so angst fueled. This is all enjoyment for them these days. |

I don't who's aimed by your question, but as far as I'm concerned I was only talking about production and sound issues.
I actually like those songs.
I have no special expectations regarding new material (we all know they can't do Surfer 2 or Trompe 2. How can you beat that anyway ?), I only expect good songs, that's all, that I can enjoy listening to.

My question isn't aimed, at anybody, it's just for discussion. I like both songs a lot, and I like IC, more than I used to. I'm sure I'll like HC. I just see (or hear) these Pixies different than those Pixies (Deal being irrelevant to my point). Somehow I think there are expectations based on the labeling that affect my perception. A collection of songs released under the title "Some Songs by Charles and His Buddies" might carry with it less expectations to sound a certain way. |
