Was hoping for a smaller venue but glad they're playing a non-festival date in London. Fingers crossed for new stuff, Trompe stuff etc. |

If this was a month earlier I'd definitely be going. As it happens I won't be able to make it, which is disappointing.
Still, there was a time when I thought I'd never see the Pixies live. I've seen them once in Brixton and Black Francis solo once in Manchester, so I consider myself lucky just for that.
Would have been great to see the current line up though and a few Indie Cindy songs.

Never got an email about the London date from the band mailing list, which is weird. In any case was in hospital recovering from surgery so missed out when the tickets went on sale yesterday, and now it's sold out. If anyone has a spare stalls ticket I'd certainly be keen to purchase it. Haven't seen the latest line-up of the band and I promise I won't complain if they don't play anything at all off Trompe :-) |

I've missed out emails for a few things now - twitter notifications seem to be the best way to hear things first at the moment. I just had a look at some of their more recent setlists, they really haven't kept faith with their newer stuff have they? Only 3 from a 28 song set seems a bit meagre. |

Seems I need to start using twitter but given they say there'll be no other London dates this year I just have to hope to find someone with a spare closer to the date of the gig.
Re. setlist I suppose they think that most fans want to hear the old stuff and not material off the last record. When I saw them last - 2013 - they were playing a good proportion of the new stuff. |

They didnt stick to that, Velvety was earlier (and not as good as Catholics version) and don't remember U Mass at all. Cindy, Isla, Brick were all standouts. First time Ive seen them play Tony too - was fun.
Baal was best of the new stuff, more hollering than anything I can remember. Masher and Chagga were solid but need to hear Head Carrier again before makig mind up.
Lots of long intros, Paz has really fitted in now - doing her own thing and not trying to be Kim.
Arent they announcing more London dates before Xmas?!?

hahahahahahaha
Instead of screaming a bit in many of the songs, now he's letting a lot of those parts slide, and saving his throat up so he can scream ALL THE WAY THROUGH this one.
hahahahahahaha
I really do love FBF.

Seems catchy even if it is a lot of screaming. I like it more with each listen. |

I deserve little thanks. I just did a little youtube searching. Now if these shows were in LA like when they debuted the first new material with Kim S., you could thank me for actually taping the new songs and posting them like I did back in September of 2013. (ahhh.... that week of shows in LA was probably one of the best weeks of my life)
Now bring on full recordings of Head Carrier and the rest! |

PS I love the man's scream. Definitely awe inspiring. Always loved this bit from the "Gouge" documentary about BF's scream. :) https://youtu.be/UjAhm82v1es?t=39m14s |

Didn't BF once said it was the worst shows he ever did ?
They were very good IMO. I liked Shattuck vocals better than Paz (and thanks for taping those shows btw !)
Yesterday a large part of the gig was broadcasted live on Periscope. We should monitor this for the next ones !

BF may have said that, I'm sure they all felt a lot of pressure playing new songs with a new member publicly for the first time. But for a lifelong fan who thought he'd never hear new Pixies music again, it was all just so fucking amazing. I was on cloud 9 all week. When they debuted Magdalena 318 on the last of their 5 LA nights I had tears in my eyes. Not ashamed to admit it. |

Nice. It kinda has a catholics and screaming Pixies vibe to it. I feel more optimistic about the new album too now. That and the new songs being shorter like old school Pixies is a good sign I think. |

Cool ;-) And thanks again for sharing your videos, those were the black&white ones if I remember correctly ? I think I got some accurate chords for a bunch of songs from them ;-)

Glad you all like the video :)
It was an interesting gig. Charles was really going for it on some of the songs... never heard Subbacultcha like that before.
First time I've heard Nimrod's Son played on the Telecaster at a Pixies gig too.
Joey started playing the Head Carrier squalling riff by mistake over the start of Subba.
Classic Masher sounded brilliant... you'd think they'd been playing it for years.
No sign of the SG at this show: Charles just stuck to the two Teles and the acoustic. |

I hope that distinctly unsexy reporter didn't get paid for that "review."
He could have stayed home and written 98% of it from (faulty) memory.
Why do newspapers even bother to (re)print pieces like that after this long?

I found it comical
No Kim Deal (Tick) Sex and bible (Tick) Loud Quiet Loud (Tick) Nirvana (Tick) Old songs better than new songs (Tick) Not interacting with the fans (Tick) Unsexy Christian Rock loving front man (WTF?)
Honestly my nine year old could have done better (and she wasn't even at the gig) |

Joey: "Nah."
Then another interviewer was trying to rephrase the same question: "But... how do you feel about being so influential ??? How do you live with that ??"
BF: "We drink a lot."
