Nice find. Particularly like this exchange.
AXS: Thanks so much for taking time out to chat today. The Pixies are about to embark on a North American Tour that kicks-off with a performance at the Beale Street Music Festival on May 1, what can fans expect from the band this time around? Will you be debuting new music?
Joey Santiago: Absolutely. The plan is to be a band that's, kind of [tackling new music] like when a band first starts out and no one has heard of their music. We book shows without a record and we start to flesh it out, have a little pow-wow to discuss what worked and didn't work and change it from show to show. Just like we did back then |

Agree, this part is very encouraging and while it means we'll likely have to wait awhile to hear new studio recordings, if it means strong material when it does surface it'll be worth it. Can't wait to see what they play live this time around.
I'm curious if this method of working up the new material was Joey's idea vs. Charles'? |

Thanks for posting Pixie! Great read, a bold move potentially utilising Paz's violin on next tracks, I love that prospect.

Dumb article. The author is still beating the dead horse named Kim D. She's not coming back, and good riddance. Looks like Paz has been hired on permanently, and Paz is head and shoulders a better musician that Kim D ever was. The audience also no longer gives a shit that Kim got the boot. The Pixies are still filling fairly large venues, unlike the Breeders, who are currently booking venues like the local Kiwanis Club.
The author is also a lazy-ass, just parroting the same old BS about Kim not being allowed to write songs for the Pixies. Here's the truth for Mr. Blog Scribbler: Kim had nothing but contempt for the guys, Thompson especially, right from the start. She signed on to the Pixies to get an intro to the music world, to network, and because she loved the rock 'n roll lifestyle. Even in the early years she bad mouthed Thompson, called the Pixies a 'dumb band', and flat out said most of the songs were 'stupid'. She was shocked at the kind of adulation the band received during their first go-around, and still doesn't understand why the Pixies have any appeal at all. I've heard and read interviews where she flat out refuses to discuss any of the Pixies songs like she can't be bothered. She once answered a question about Monkey Gone to Heaven by derisively referring to the tune as 'that monkey song', and it wasn't just a playful attempt at humor, the mocking and contemptuous tone of her voice left no doubt about how she feels about Pixies tunes.
If anything Thompson was too kind and generous for keeping her around as long as he did....should have shit-canned her ass after Doolittle. |

Your whole take on Kim and the entire situation is kinda tired man. Let it go. |

What's kind of 'tired and dumb, man' are the people who keep insisting that the Pixies not the Pixies without Kim. Most famous bands have line-up changes, yet as long as the principal members remain, it remains the same band. Kim was not the Pixies, she was the bass player they hired from an ad placed in a throwaway community newspaper. Like I said, they were very generous keeping her around as long as they did. Time to move forward. |

Ok, now we're talking! "How many new songs are you workshopping?
We’re kicking around 10. But we’ll see. I’ve gotta work on my parts.
Can you tell me anything about the new songs? What you’re liking about them?
I hate to be a cliché-er, but there’s two types of music — good and bad — and this, I happen to love. Charles likes to use us as a filter. He’ll send us a song and we just won’t respond to him. It’s kind of rude, but f--- it, that’s just our M.O., it’s always been our M.O. But this time around, I’d say he got an A, A-minus. No one’s perfect. Maybe a B-plus, considering there’s 10 songs. And it’s our job to make it 100 percent." |

If they're all hungry for hummas, that must be a good sign. |
