Those performances were more raw, natural, and "inhabited", especially Greens and Andro Maybe a bit faster as well
Love Dubs' drumming on Andro Queen, so much less "in your face" than Lovering's military march

It pains me how slow 'Greens and Blues' is on the record. Always waiting for it to properly kick in. |

Agreed. Love how Andro Queen and Silver Snail turned out, though. But yeah, too many mid-tempo songs on the album. Miss some throwaway punk fun, like 'Lovely Day' or 'I Sent Away', etc. |

Very much agree. Hopefully they utilize shorter bursts on new stuff. Get In, Get Out. |

Agree on Greens and Blues, great song but just a bit tentative on the drumming. Even David said he struggled to keep the tempo down. I wonder whose idea it was. |

Those live performances took place a few months after the actual recording of the album... So, the songs you hear on Indie Cindy are not "more advanced" versions of what he performed here. It's just the opposite.
quote: I hope they keep 'Classic Masher' relatively simple. I wonder why they never fully recorded it for 'Indie Cindy'? hmm...
Same reason... this song was probably created after the recording sessions in Wales.

I heard Greens and Blues played on the local radio this morning. The DJ stated that it was off the first new Pixie's album in over 20 years. He made no mention of Deal's departure. |

Wasn't that list you're talking about from early 2013...? The Wales sessions took place in October 2012.

My point it that Kim's departure seems to be a non-issue for most of the fans now....the tone of the DJ's comments seem to indicate that he was a fan. |

Earliest version I found of live Classic Masher is Los Angeles The Mint 19 March 2013. Since he played Silver Snail and Indie Cindy early February, it's hard to tell if Masher was written post-Wales, or if it's part of the same batch of songs they brought to Gil Norton.

From what I've heard, I haven't really enjoyed much of Kim's music with the Breeders but I did like this song. |

Kim makes the same dopey, low-fi album every 5 years or so with that cunt Albini. Nothing really new, she doesn't grow at all. |

I've finally given this record two listens but don't feel much for it. The few songs I did like aren't enough to pull me back. Even though I know how Frank's songwriting can grow on you, multiple listens revealing nuances and depth, I still don't have an interest. Maybe it'll be like Show Me Your Tears, something that takes years for me to get.
But I don't know. It's just not that good and I'm not even comparing it to their other records. If this were just a Frank Black album I would feel the same, some good songs but nothing great and others that are sort of bland. Certainly not as engaging as the Golem. Bits of some songs sound like bits of songs from Bossanova and Trompe. Some go on too long. I did like the intro to Snakes and that whole song but...I don't know. It's not terrible, it's just average, maybe a little below.
The playing's good but this batch of songs just didn't do it for me. |

I like it more listening now than i did a year ago, but yeah it's a disappointment. I don't think there's anything on there as good as, say, Cinema Star. But I'm willing to blame the production more than anything. |

I like it more now than I had at first, too (as with most things Frank Black). I think some of the "cheesy" songs will be considered more fairly after the shock wears off. Am I the only one who thinks Another Toe sounds like a SVN FNGRS track?
Don, I think that Cinema Star is a good comparison to Indy Cindy. Most of those tracks are good, but not great. And the production on NSE was considered terrible when it first came out. Is that still the consensus? |

I think Indie Cindy is a great record, released by a new band it would have been lauded by critics. I am sure of that.
The songwriting is top notch in my opinion. Some absolute classics in the title track, andro queen, bag boy, magdelena and Jaime bravo.
Any record that has songs of that quality is a great achievement in my view. I look forward tot he next record. I hope its a whole new batch of tracks. My personal taste would be that they sound or have similar audio quality to women of war. That is a nicely produced track. |
