Enjoying the new tracks, and very glad they've been released before we expected. We've had to listen to the criticisms regarding production (which I have some sympathy for) on each release, even though we've known from the outset that all of this music has come from the one session in Wales in 2012.
We've spent enough time waiting for releases from that one time and place. I get the feeling, from some recent interviews, that the band are excited about what they're going to do next, so that's what I'm excited about.
The 'Indie Cindy' album will, I'm pretty sure, go down in the band's history as a compilation, and maybe even something of a curio. I for one have been thrilled with the output - for its bravery and its oddity, not too mention the clutch of classic songs that have come out of it.
Now, next album please.

i'm sure that's a typo, and that there will be only three songs on each side.
just check out this picture that has the vinyl tracklist:
it's educational
This is definitely a typo but the picture does not mean there is no live album as well.
3 songs per side looks strange to me. Though it does not mean this is real, there is a picture of the vinyl showing 6 songs on a side.
The thing is, the newsletter seems to imply there is the live album in the vinyl release: "available at pixiesmusic.com, a special deluxe, limited edition (3,000) two-disc set (available as a CD and as a deluxe gatefold album pressed on 180-gram vinyl) that includes the 13-track live disc. This deluxe package also includes a 40-page, hard-back book that features the new artwork produced exclusively for Indie Cindy. The CD limited edition is packaged in a special gold-foil hard slipcase."
However, as the sentence also mentions the hard-back book, which clearly is not part of the vinyl release, this might be another mistake. |

what is this all about? how will this version be different from the double lp that can be pre-ordered from pixiesmusic.com right now? is it just a limited amount of albums that will be released earlier than the rest? or will these record store day copies be numbered or in any other way be different?
Sometimes albums come out early on Record Store Day. Sometimes there's something unique about the Record Store Day release (colored vinyl, a different cover, etc.), sometimes not. If no other details about it come out, I wouldn't expect the Record Store Day version to be different from the regular release. |

if i get it right, this will be released, album-wise: - standard 12-track album on cd, available everywhere on 28 april - 12-track album on double lp (not clear if this is a limited release, or if it will be available in shops), released on 28 april - 12-track album on double lp released on 19 april, record store day (limited somehow, but possibly identical to the double lp that will be released on 28 april) - deluxe edition on 2 cds that includes the live cd, released on 28 april (limited to 3,000 copies, pixiesmusic.com exclusive)
and there will be digital downloads available for both the standard 12-track album and the deluxe edition including the live cd.

Apparently, the RSD version will be the same as the one on pixiesmusic.com but... will include a bonus 7¨ single: Women Of War http://modern-vinyl.com/2014/03/24/new-full-length-from-pixies-on-sale/ |

e-mailed stagebloc; got a quick reply and was told to re-download, 320 kbps mp3s - were there. so at least i got them.
cant say i'm overly impressed at the moment.

This news has me more excited than all the deluxe package arrangements. I was slightly disappointed with only 3 new tracks on EP3. |

it now directs you to other online retailers (the button says "pre-order on amazon"). i guess it's fair to assume that the LP isn't a limited release. so only EP3 (10") and the deluxe album (2cd book) are limited to 3,000 copies.

Sold out so quickly? Glad I ordered in time... I'm happy I'll be able to listen to Bagboy on vinyl Like a lot Jaime Bravo (sounds a bit to me like 90's indie band Urusei Yatsura) Ring The Bell is a bit too soft for me, but its tone is interesting and reminds me a bit of Winterlong Silver Snail is great, though unexpected to be so much drowned in reverb
Maybe Women Of War was the track recorded with Paz

What do you people think of the album tracklisting? Nice to finally know what track the band/management saw as an opener, etc.

Women of War was from the 2012 sessions, I believe, going by the BMI listing. No new track has appeared on BMI since then.

Doesn't that just mean it was written/conceived at that time? It could've been recorded this year. Matches up with the numbers Dave mentioned in terms of how many songs they completed in Wales. |

I wonder if I'll be able to edit my order if i can get one of the RSD copies on Record Store Day?
i got my eye on a couple other RSD titles. The Pogues with Joe Strummer and Harry Dean Stanton anyone? and The Doors Weird Scenes Inside The Goldmine is one of my faves - i have a hand-me-down copy that is absolutely unlistenable, one disc even has a crack.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PIXIES TO RELEASE FIRST FULL STUDIO ALBUM IN MORE THAN TWO DECADES Special Vinyl Release Confirmed for Record Store Day
“…their songwriting chops have hardly wavered and the best may be yet to come.” — Village Voice
(LOS ANGELES, CA - March 24, 2014) — Fans have dreamed about it for years, and now Pixies are delivering. Indie Cindy, the band’s first full studio album since 1991’s Trompe le Monde, will be released in late April (April 23/Japan, April 28/UK/Europe/International, April 29/North America) on the band’s own independent label, Pixiesmusic (marketed and distributed worldwide by [PIAS] Recordings). Pre-orders for most configurations can be placed beginning today at iTunes, Amazon, and other online retail outlets.
“We started seriously talking about recording new music about four years ago,” said Pixies drummer David Lovering. “New music seemed like something we just had to do, we just couldn’t continue to go out and tour without anything new. So the talk evolved into writing and recording, and we’re all very happy with the way everything worked out.”
The 12 cuts on Indie Cindy were produced by Gil Norton, producer of the band’s classic Doolittle, Bossanova, and Trompe le Monde albums, and recorded during October 2012 at Rockfield Studios in Wales, UK. The various packages feature a collection of brand new artwork by the legendary graphic artist Vaughan Oliver who created the artwork for all of Pixies’ previous releases. The album is comprised of “Bagboy,” the band’s first new song in more than a decade, the eight tracks from the band’s EP-1 and EP-2, released September 3, 2013 and January 3, 2014 respectively, plus the three new tunes from the just-released EP-3 - all written by the Pixies - Black Francis/vocals, guitar; Joey Santiago/guitars; David Lovering/drums, backing vocals. With EP-1, EP-2 and now EP-3 having been available only in digital and limited-edition vinyl formats, Indie Cindy will mark the first time fans can have all of the new Pixies music in one collection.
Pixies are making Indie Cindy available in a selection of formats:
* as a standard 12-track single-CD digipak with booklet
* as a two-disc, deluxe gatefold album, pressed on 180-gram vinyl
* as a standard 12-track digital download via iTunes, Amazon, and other online retail sellers
* as an expanded digital download exclusively through iTunes that includes a bonus live-in-concert 13-track set recorded during the band’s recently-completed North American tour
* available at pixiesmusic.com, a special deluxe, limited edition (5,000) two-disc set (available as a CD and as a deluxe gatefold album pressed on 180-gram vinyl) that includes the 13-track live disc. This deluxe package also includes a 40-page, hard-back book that features the new artwork produced exclusively for Indie Cindy. The CD limited edition is packaged in a special gold-foil hard slipcase.
But wait, there’s more. On April 19, a week before the official release date and exclusively for Record Store Day, Pixies will make Indie Cindy available as a special RSD limited edition, two-disc, deluxe gatefold, 180-gram vinyl set, only from independent record stores participating in RSD around the world. When these are gone, they’re gone.
While Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having blazed the trail for artists from Nirvana to Radiohead to Pearl Jam, today, a whole new generation of music fans are discovering their iconic “loudquietloud” signature sound. After five genre-defining studio albums, Pixies disbanded in 1993, and then launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds all over the globe for seven years, a longer period of time than they were a band originally. But writing, recording and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012. Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, working with a variety of touring bassists, something they’d never done. As the UK’s DIY wrote about the new music, “They’re back. They’re still brilliant. God save the Pixies.”

I got to have it all, that's just how I roll. I've always been an LP guy. Trouble is... it's three songs per side!!! Garragh I hate that. It would all fit on one disc, I can never figure out why that trend has taken hold. Oh well, still looking forward to it. Hopefully they fix some compression but I doubt it.
Like some others here, I too take this as the signal that the band is ready to just get this stuff out and wrapped up so they can get down to, what to them, is new stuff. These tracks are pretty old to them by now. I think I predicted on another thread a few months ago that they would just say fuck it and put out it all they had that was ready so they could just get on with it. I've enjoyed the EP Era, but I'm more stoked for what's to come now that they've got their sea legs under them again.

People don't seem to be giving their verdicts of the songs as much as on the threads for EP 2 and 3... is that because you'd heard the songs live already so they're not really new? Or everyone's too busy trying to figure out what's going on with the various releases...
Well anyway, they're new to me (apart from Bagboy), and although I've only given it two listens I can't say I'm compelled to give it any more. I think this is down there with EP1...I can kind of see what they're trying to do with them and how it might sound better with different production, but it still seems pretty poor to me (I'm one of the haters, although EP 2 isn't too bad). The few verdicts on here seem positive, as with the other EPs, but I'm curious how people would rank it against 1 and 2? It's got a little bit of catchiness and Silver Snail is kind of interesting, but to me these three are maybe the dullest of ask the new tracks.
The production does seem to just smother it completely though. I (as someone who knows nothing about production) wonder if this is actually the sound Gil Norton would have wanted to make 25 years ago, but was limited by technology... Or even that it took 25 years of practice to get the sound he wanted.
Can you imagine if Doolittle was produced like this? Even Bossanova and Trompe, sure the production's a bit heavier but nothing like this. |

i'm surprised that the deluxe cd edition hasn't sold out yet. especially if it's limited to 3,000 copies worldwide. (or 5,000, whatever.) i find it weird that such a limited release is also available in some amazon shops (amazon.co.uk and amazon.de, if i'm not mistaken). surely that would make them sell out faster, no? or would this release not be that limited after all?
and that press release once again suggests that there's a vinyl edition that includes the live compilation. i don't think that's correct, but who knows?

Remember Norton made this band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3n5D622aW4 sound like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfNf7pFB5pA
I kinda like that Worlds in Collision though. But not Indy Cindy! EP3 is the worst by far, it sounds like Manson! It's like listening to the last butthole surfers album (you love that band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LN7R6knWVyo for years then they make that music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPOfn74MN0g). The only difference is that you could think the butthole surfers last album in horrible on purpose.

Yeah. Simply put Norton's production is terrible on this. Remember when everyone was raving about Dead Man's Curve, and then the studio version was released on NSE and it sucked? It's this times 12 on the new EPs (except on Hexe, which is certainly why it's my fave). I swear Jamie Bravo could have been on Trompe Le Monde if there were some dynamics in it except of having everything in the red. The songs are there but the whole recording is dull.

"The songs are there but the whole recording is dull." -> exactly
Still I rate EP3 (as an EP) above the other two, because the title track #1 is so great, and I don't dislike any of the songs. On EP1 opener is a confusing choice, plus Toe is skippable On EP2, maybe it's because I prefer some live versions of the songs that I'm a bit disappointed
As far as songs are concerned, I prefer EP1 because it contains two of my favorite tracks (Boom and Cindie)

Been listening to EP3 a few times without really paying attention...
Eventually listened carefully this morning... and it suddently all became clear: Silver Snail / Jaime Bravo / Ring the Bells are ...GREAT tracks.
Despite the awful post-prod sound processing, those are very catchy tunes with powerful melodic hooks. Jaime Bravo would be a great end-of-set track.
Those tracks have a soul, deeply buried underneath this overboosted-brickwalled-sounding mastering.

I agree picpic Plus, Joey is at his poppiest on these tracks. His solo on Jaime Bravo sounds like tapping from the same source as Trompe Le Monde (the song)
