Thoughts from the show. Just solid Frank vocals from top to bottom (except for some of the high notes on Indie Cindy). They're as ferocious a live band as they've ever been--with a tough-as-nails rhythm section (especially on the Planet of Sound encore). Magdalena really sounded good after the 1-2-3 BossaNova set that preceded it. Fit right in. But not sure what the crowd made of it. All the smartphone cinematographers put their phones down that's for sure. Didn't see a single one up for many of the new songs. Was nice. Couple of hippies next to me were dead dancing during 'Snakes,' which sounded really different and more Pixie-ish live. Sorry, but I was surprised how little I missed Kim Deal. As Joe hammed it up during the 'Vamos' show closer doing an applause meter thing with the audience to see which section of the crowd was the loudest, Charles stood back and watched him with a a smile that (to me) said 'shit, this guy can work a room.' He looked proud and impressed. As was I. These kids have still got it. Meant to check out the merch table but, alas, did not. |

Just walking in the door and it was an excellent show. My neck is killing me. Frank's voice seemed a little tired but overall the band was so tight. Not one word spoken to the audience which is fantastic. There was a great applause when Arizona was sung in Havalina, which was cool. Highlights of the show for me where U Mass, Planet of Sound, Caribou, I've Been Tired and Brick is Red sounded killer. Of the new material i thought Greens and Blues and What Goes Boom sounded excellent live. In fact, Boom was sandwiched between Grieves and Against You and it fit in perfectly.
The friend I went with wasn't very familiar with the material so it was cool from his perspective to see that he enjoyed the new material equally to the classics. The truth is most people only really got into the usual suspects. Was surprised not many people were that familiar with the Bossanova or Trompe material.
Religion won't save me, the damage is done. The future has ended before it's begun. Damaged Soul - Black Sabbath
