Here's "Here Comes Your Man," shot by yours truly. Used my iPhone and was about a mile from the stage, so neither the sound nor the video are outstanding. Still good, though.

Wow, you weren't kidding when you said about a mile...! Thanks for sharing this. What did you think of the show? How 'bout a review...?

Ok, here's a lousy review. I feel like a dick for how critical this will sound, but it's my personal experience from the show.

To be honest, I didn't enjoy myself at all. For one, I'm much more into Frank Black than I am the Pixies (or even Black Francis), and I found myself wishing Frank would be more, well, Frank -- like I've seen him at solo shows. With a bit of banter and self-deprecation. I found myself wishing for more personality from the whole band, especially between songs. None of them spoke a word -- not even the obligatory Colorado marijuana joke -- they just worked their way through 25 or so songs and waved goodbye. Paz was fine, but I did find myself missing Kim Deal's presence. She always did lighten the mood. And the music was nothing special -- or, to be fair, nothing more special than usual. (It is the Pixies, after all, and the songs are still great.) There was a recent thread here that suggested they were doing something new with the music -- that suggestion was the whole reason I decided to go to this show -- but that wasn't my experience. I might as well have listened to their studio albums or a bootleg from six years ago. Frank screamed some, Dave had a party on his drums, Joey showed off on "Vamos" -- same old show, minus Kim. Some of the new songs were OK, but nothing like the old ones.

I tried to jot down the setlist so I could post it here, but I didn't know the names of any of the new songs, and there was no way to figure them out later. I have a couple more videos to post as soon as I can get them uploaded to the YouTubes.

Coastline,

I was probably the guy whose rave suggested that something newish was going on in their approach and which inspired you to go to the show.

I certainly understand what you're saying about your experience, and am sorry if my gushing enthusiasm left you wishing you'd stayed home!

All I can tell you is that while the shift I discerned in the show I caught was subtle, I really did feel it quite viscerally. I don't think it comes through properly on the phone videos and audio recordings I've found from that show, though.

It was just a palpable thing for me (and others I spoke with) in the room that night.

I met a guy the other day who told me he saw them a few nights later in Atlanta, and without me saying anything about my experience in Durham, he basically started gushing about the exact same things I noticed and wrote about on these boards.

Maybe it's all in his and my heads?

Even if it is (which, now that I ponder that notion, how could it not be?), it made me really, really happy that night in a way I had not expected, and I hope at some point in the future of Pixies v. 2.0 another one of their shows makes you happy in that way too.

BTW, I too pine greatly for the glory days of 1993 - 2003...

Not at all, Peter. I'm glad I went -- I would have kicked myself for missing Frank again. I've missed too many opportunities to see him the last six or eight years. I'd rather see a dud of a show than wonder what I missed.

I think part of the concert experience (well, the music experience, really) is what the attendee/listener brings to the equation. I had certain desires and preconceived notions, and those didn't mesh with what the band had to offer that night. ("It's not you, it's me.") C'est la vie.

Hi, Coast. Just a couple of ("DUH!) reasons why the show didn't cut it for you.

1) "I am much more into Frank Black and wished he was more..." . Just curious if you've ever been to a Pixies show before, cuz he's like 2 different personalities. And, if u have seen him "solo", was it ever with a band (other than the P's)?

2) "I was A MILE FROM THE STAGE" ! That would def affect my enjoyment of a show

Hi, simibaby.

I'd been to a couple Pixies shows before -- in 2004 and 2005. The first one was pretty good and the second one (at Red Rocks) was fantastic. And I've been to several solo shows, including the Cult of Ray tour and soon after the release of Fast Man Raider Man. So, yeah, I recognize Frank's different when he's solo than when he's fronting a band. Still, this show just left me wanting.

I wasn't at the back of the house for the whole show. But it was the same when I was closer to the stage.

Hum, Coastline... I have a few questions if you don't mind.

- How dare you say anything unenthusiastic about Pixies on this board?
- Do you realise how that behaviour can hurt or offend other sensitive and devoted fans who try really hard to put things together after what happened since this summer with their very special favorite band of all times?
- Don't you feel ashamed?
- And why do you think they no longer play Another Toe in the Ocean?
