Probably belongs in the RIP, but was real sad to hear this news today. Just my personal take. A GREAT actor/artiste at a time when there's so much "celebrity" shit out there. Always took over a role.
Boogie Nights, Capote, Proof, Love Lisa and on. RIP, Phillip.

HEROIN SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed watching his performance as Freddie Miles in The Talented Mr Ripley. He owned it.

A dick twice over. Thanks, I haven't updated that in years. Some of the links didn't work.

whats the difference between "detective" and "detective 2nd grade" - now you get to solve all the playground violence and missing lunch money mysteries?

haha just kidding.

no, seriously; what's the diff?

Maybe he's actually a real cool ( after all he's a Frank fan) and mature 7 year old and was assigned by Miss Crabapple to be the "detective"
of his 2nd grade class. As Ralph Kramden would say, "Har har hardy har har"

now that's stereotyping, why should law enforcement be uncool or simple? like in that joke where a guy is interviewed at a police station and mocks a group of cops and says that cops are dumb. Cops:"No, we're not!" Man:"Yeah, you are. OK, let's see. Answer this: what is small, red and in a tree?" Cops think hard for a while but give up. Man:"A cherry!... OK, how about this: What are two small red things in a tree?" Cops again think hard for a while but come up with nothing. Man: "Two cherries!!... OK, let's make it easier: What animal pulls a horse-car?..." Cops again think hard and one of them says "Is it three cherries?"

sorry, cops. sorry, thread.

There's a movie directed by Joel Schumacher (not known for making quality pictures, I know) starring Hoffman and DeNiro. Hoffman's performance is fantastic, worth the price of admission.

Thought of this thread today whilst driving by a local cinema that is playing Boogie Nights this weekend.

I really liked him in Before The Devil Knows You're Dead. Sometimes makes you wonder if actors take a little bit of each character with them....
