I know it's not me that bought this up but it's from this interview. I don't think it was meant as an insult though.
Q: But now Deal has left. Is it still Pixies without her?
Santiago: Yeah it’s Pixies, that’s one against three.
Q: Do you miss her presence in the band?
BF: We probably most miss her voice, a lot. I think that was one thing about her that was really consistent.
That's what's called a 'backhanded compliment'....so, yeah, an insult. |

If Paz doesn't become a permanent Pixies, and the boys decide to have another guest bass player accompany them, I suggest they consider Jenny Lee Lindberg of Warpaint. Excellent bass player, good singer and it doesn't hurt that she's sexy as hell.

Was listening to the Silver Jews album Tanglewood Numbers the other day and found Paz plays on the album, some violin/banjo on some songs apparently.
Decent album but reminds me of the story of how David Berman threw a CD at Frank Black around 96 or so. I wonder if that event ever comes up in conversation on the tour bus!

Which song did she play on Stevio?
Haven't listened to the Jews for ages. This was the first song of there's I heard.
I didn't realise Paz played with them too.

Tried to find out which songs she plays on but she just seems to be classed as an additionally musician, Pitchfork says she adds violin and banjo. Violin I've heard she plays but not so familiar with her banjo playing?
This is my favourite Silver Jews song:

I think that Paz gets a lot of credit for 2.0 being as awesome as it is, and for making Gigantic her own thing.

She is an absolute top musician to the core. The band and we are so lucky to have her. The band sounds tighter and better live now than I've ever seen them before. Really looking forward to seeing if more of her talent is used in future recordings, whether it be violin, theremin, etc...

From what I can tell, Paz's presence in the band is great for their chemistry and creativity. Listening to the It's a Pixies Podcast, it seems like FB is more than happy to defer a lot of musical decisions to her -- which is remarkable considering FB said in a recent interview that pre-Pixies Paz was a big fan of the band. I can't imagine being in her shoes, joining a legendary band, replacing Kim(s), and having the balls to assert myself in creative decisions and the band's direction.
Oh, and I LOVE her harmonies with Frank. The great thing about Frank-and-Kim harmonies was the dissonance -- the bad chemistry was palpable and part of what made the Pixies for me. But with Paz, it's sublime.
