Maybe it's for the new Paley & Francis album! (If that's still happening.) |

Maybe Classic Masher was simply written after the recording sessions ?

Ugh. Please no. It needs the Pixies and they need it. It could be the next Here Comes Your Man.
The reason I chose the ones I did: Ring the Bell (snippet on vine means it's recorded and BF is practicing it) Silver Snail (they've been playing this) Hooray for Jaime Bravo (the were rehearsing it back before the European tour and it's got lighting cues set up. I suspect we'll hear it this tour) Banks of the Drain (wild card)
I suspect that Classic Masher is being saved for an LP but that's just a guess.
I wish they would up the number of songs per EP. They could have done 4 on EP1, 5 on EP2, 6 on EP3, etc.

i think it would be sweet if the pixies released more "demos" like bagboy, in addition to their norton session.
can you gang link me to the lighting cue sheet that gave clues as to what they were rehearsing? |

oh, i suppose it is!
FB said... “The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called ‘Break My Body.’ Twenty-five years later, some Starbucks in Harvard Square…I thought that was kind of interesting. The music for the song has been around for a few years. There are some demos I made with Joey and David a few years ago in Los Angeles, related to a film idea that still has yet to see the light of day, although work on the music continued. So a lot of the musical idea had been kicking around for awhile. It’s pretty simple, kind of a blues-based, two-note kind of thing, really.”
over time that morphed into it being from a demo session as opposed to the album session in my mind. dubs' BG vox were definitely from a demo though.

That is unlikely if they continue with the 10" vinyl format, as they are limited by the maximum time-per-side constraints of that medium.
If they wound up with some significantly shorter songs, adding one or more might be physically and sonically feasible.

i would love to see an economics-based analysis of this format. with DRM, illegal downloading and such it must be so hard to keep track of real interest and profit generated from these endeavours. and to take it a step further i wonder what generation realised the most profit from their releases? was it the 70's where vinyl reached lowest production cost per unit or was it the 90s where digital recording/reproduction and distribution reached maximum efficiencies?
Pixies may be leading the way here - would be an interesting study at any rate. imagine a band releasing 1 song per month at $1r/a tracyk, my yk,eyboard jues't went all fucyk,ed upt.lt.lt.l time for anew yk,eyboatrd fucyk,t.l

BF did quite a few demos with Jeremy Dubs playing a lot of the instruments (remember reading this in a Dubs interview posted here). There's also a reference to Joey working on some (the same ones?) when visiting, which is where the 'Indie Cindy' vocal comes from. |

Not sure it this has been brought up - but holy crap Classic Masher to my ears is a re-write of Living on Soul ala Steve Miller's My Dark Hour vs. Fly Like an Eagle.
Edit: That's not a bad thing. Soul kicks ass.

Living On Soul (Christmas version) is one of my BF´s favourites I think Classic Masher also sounds like Pulp (Common People...)

Yes, that release date is made up just like the original EP2 one on Wikipedia was. Probably the same person. I've put in my vote to get it deleted. |

The two EPs also came out almost immediately after holidays. American holidays, at least.
EP 1 was announced right after Labor Day. EP 2, New Year's. If EP is gonna be in May, that coincides with Memorial Day. |

BF responded to a post on twitter about a fan wanting an album, but being satisfied with the EPs. He said that person's "antiquated itch would be scratched in good time". Sounds good.
Transmarine, can you at least list the demo songs you've heard? Share the knowledge if you won't share the music. |

do you think an other version of bagboy might appear on one of the next EPs?
and yes, transmarine, it'd be cool to learn what demos you've heard.
it's educational |

I know it won't happen but i'd love it if the band re-recorded the songs for a proper LP now that they've been road testing them and letting them evolve. (For example, i love the live version of Bagboy without as many backup vocals, and Magdalena is sounding awesome at the faster speed they've been performing it lately.) Plus if Paz is going to be a more permanent member like it's kind of being alluded to in some interviews it'd be nice to have her bass and vocals on the record. Hopefully the critiques of the production/compression issues on the EPs would be noted and changed for the LP as well. |

Nothing earth shattering but after some internet sleuthing I can reveal the track times to 3 of the unreleased songs: Silver Snail – 3:29 Ring the Bell – 3:35 Jaime Bravo – 4:24
Just type in Pixies: http://repsearch.ppluk.com/ARSWeb/appmanager/ARS/main?cont=A
Seeing as only the previously released songs and these 3 are on the site I'm pretty certain that EP3 will contain these + 1 other (most likely Classic Masher as Frank's done it live solo + there was a Vine of him singing it). Unless of course it's a 3 song EP. Perhaps the forth song is the one they recently recorded with Paz?? |

When was the Classic Masher Vine?
Jamie Bravo was on the lighting list too. Looking forward to the next lot. |

Not too long ago I think? If you go on Frank's individual Vine account there's a very short clip of him singing it in a laundry room. |

It makes even more sense as Dave said in an early interview that they came in with 5 songs and wrote 7 more in the studio. 12=Bagboy+EP1+EP2+A 3 track EP. We know in fact that they have more songs than that so maybe he meant they completed an additional 7 songs and the rest were left as demos. I'm sure I've read an interview saying they produced a lot of new music in the studio whilst demoing even more. |
