I may have the attention span of a lab rat, but my appetite for new tunes from Frank was not satiated with this latest release.
Anyone want to place bets on the next one? |

3-4 months. They've not committed to anything and have hinted that they're looking into a new LP so it's fairly open really. More than likely EP3, 4, 5, 6 within 3-4 months of each other but you never know. |

Hmm, I'll throw in the totally uninformed opinion that they will go on ahead with EP-3 in 3-4 months time, and then, for EP-4,3-4 months later, have an option in their site that gives fans the possibility of, in adition to EP-4, mp3s and vinyl, acquiring the the 4 EPs in a special package, like the single The Golem version, with a tracklist that's not alphabetized.
The tracklist of the whole bunch, directly from the band, that would be cool. I'm having some trouble figuring out an order for the 9 songs already released. Trying to avoid having Ep-2 directly follow EP-1. |

i'll bet EP3 in about 4 months (after NA tour and before Festival season) I'll bet a further tenner that the first release after EP3 will be an LP with "the best 6 EP tracks" and I bet they hold off Classic Masher and/or Silver Snail for the long player. and i'll put a single on 4AD getting to release the LP with crazy licensing agreements and such. i'm just making shit up now. haha

was there not an indication that the EP release would span 15 months? for some reason i remember that from EP1's release. i could easily be misremembering.
anyway, as i posted earlier, it's all dictated by the "video a month" schedule. so EP3 will happen in may, and EP4 in september rounding out the project. that is if it hasn't been abandoned by that point.

I find this whole EP thing is a nice idea after all. A new bunch of songs every 4-5 months... I like it ! So i'm not in a hurry for EP-3.
I like surprises every once in a while, not eveything at the same time.

Do you think Black Francis would mind if someone were to adopt his alter-persona Frank Black while he is in hiatus? Can Frank Black and Black Francis exist at the same time or is one dependant of the other?
I always thought it would be cool (if somewhat surreal) if a musician was to pick up the reigns of a stage name character, almost like BF saying he found his BF again from Hermam Brood.
For example, I would love to hear Jack White be Ziggy Stardust. Although the characters' host may have hung up the costume, the character still exists, I would love to see that in the way that 007 or Dr. Who exists yet the hosts change.

Interesting concept here. The Frank Black personna especially between 1993& 1996 was fantastically charismatic. The Frank Black from the Catholics had this wild, strong touch, another person in another universe... They are"archetypes" in a way, and yes, like characters from comics, they could have a new "drawer" to keep alive their adventures... I thought about many things including Frank Black and his songs and his "worlds". Artistic fantaisies in a way... Nothing wrong... Wip projex. The character exists in the Pop realm so everything's possible (even imaginating Jack White as Ziggy, you have the right, Stevio)
I criticise more or less insidiously Black Francis in many posts recently, because of the latest Pixies events and because of the "nature" of Black Francis and the role he plays in all that disco... but it's a way just to draw the attention on the fact that Frank Black was and will always remain what I consider to be a pop achievement. One step further to anything he did before he adopted that name. Seriously, Frank Black is GRAND. Not popular but all the more credible and incredible.

I'm one of those cretinous fans who befriended the band on FB. The latest 'tagged' photo of Joey certainly seems to suggest they're lining up more material beyond the Wales EPs:

It took me a few goes looking at that to work out why you thought the picture indicated were recording!
With all the various topics on EPS, tour, video & interviews I think this is a really significant titbit and has me (even) more excited than I was. |

I imagine Charles has another album's worth of Pixies tunes under his belt, so it makes sense to start recording an album. |

Yeah, this stuff was recorded in Late 2012. That's a long time for Charles to whip up more tunes, maybe now even more comfortable finding that Pixies headspace. |

Given that we have only head recorded versions of 9 of the 25 songs listed on that BMI list that appeared a while back if they are now recording even more stuff we are going to be overdosing. Ears get ready |

Haha, wasn't trying to shit on you, just wasn't sure what you were confused about.
It is exciting to think of the other BMI tracks, but we really don't know if all will be recorded or finished. Let's hope they are all keepers and show up sooner or later.
Snakes was added in September which confuses me. If these were all recorded in October 2012, why was it registered so late? Also, curious as to why Magdalena and Snakes were under Lone Child music. |

It would be good to have that topic as a Sticky for easy reference. Yes, natenate101 that is strange about those two tracks being under Lone Child. Maybe Frank had originally planned them for Solo songs? Someone told me that the BMI list is not gospel truth so maybe its all flexible. I don't know much about music publishing. |

I think they did not record all of the 25 songs with Gil. Possibly 15 or so. That 25 songs list is probably just demos, which were registered in case the band decided to play any of them live. Snakes probably was registered late for the same reason: they were unsure what to do with it (put on EP? save for LP? play live and let it evolve naturally?), and finally decided to register it for possible inclusion on EP-1 or 2.
Thus, I really don't think they will go beyond an EP-4 (total:16 songs). After that people would start to get bored, and they would have already done 4 tours based on them. I assume the remaining songs, along with new ones that BF is writing right now, will be saved for an LP. Even the titles of many of the unheard songs are wacky, hinting the Doolittle era. I think these songs are probably more cohesive, as opposed to the songs we are seeing released on the EPs.
My prediction is that Classic Masher will feature on EP-3. |

Lone Child (I believe) is the music publisher used by the man since album Fastman Raiderman. Rice'n'Beans was the publisher used for the original Pixes run hence the excitement when more Rice'n'Beans songs were first noticed on the web by an eagle eye here.
But yes, am not sure what Snakes and Magdalena being on Lone Child means. Also it may not even be the case that Joey is a named songwriter on Snakes. In fact I would suggest not as the BMI entry does not include Joey's name whereas Levitate Me which I think is the only song they did where they are all credited as writers, does.
I like the name Banks of the Drain. Kinda sounds a bit menacing. |

I suspect that maybe the originals Beans n' Rice list were all demoed for and KD had some input into in the early days in the studio. Maybe the later Lone Child songs were the ones they came up with in-studio after KD left. They might still pay her a small royalty for those BnR songs....

I think Silver Snail is a safe bet but I think they're saving Classic Masher for an LP. I actually hope that is the song they were recently recording with Paz because it sounded really good with a female providing back-up vocals at his solo appearance with KS last summer. And Paz is a much better singer than KS.
I'm going to place my bets on:
Silver Snail Ring the Bell Hooray for Jaime Bravo Banks of the Drain

Jamie Bravo is highly probable because it was on Myles Mangino's original list for light configuration Classic Masher wasn't on this list (while Snakes was), which makes me think Masher wasn't recorded in Wales Ring The Bell is recorded (as heard on Vine) Silver Snail is a a safe bet, yes Will we hear Big New Prinz on a EP?
If they're recording Masher with Paz, they could very well release it on EP3 (wikipedia states it will be released April 7th, but seems fake)
So my guess is: Silver Snail Ring The Bell Classic Masher Hooray for Jaime Bravo + Big New Prinz (as a bonus)

Wikipedia entry on EP2 that started this thread said
Released November 26, 2013 Track listing 1. Tranquilize Me 2. Greens & Blues 3. Pickerel Picker 4. Blue-Eyed Hexe
So that's 2 out of 5 including the date. So I'd say there is an element of speculation in the EP3 entry. |

Yes, I'd also heard that 'Classic Masher' wasn't recorded in the Wales sessions. Odd, considering how highly BF seems to rate it, if the number of solo performances are anything to go by. |

I know four recorded performances of Classic Masher
Los Angeles The Mint 19 March 2013 www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o1IlmWjXow
San Juan Capistrano 22 March 2013 www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g_UgPcTSHg
Silver Lake CA, Lyric Theatre, 29 March 2013 Black Francis with Kim Shattuck http://youtu.be/Td5jgCQHI6I
New Orleans, Old US Mint, 5 May 2013 Black Francis Classic Masher New Orleans US MINT http://youtu.be/dHx4xl73XAg
Considering wipidedia and EP2 date, maybe it was the initial plan to release it on Nov 26, but the Kim S. story changed it
