Anyone else stoked for this? My Apple TV is going to get some heavy use out of this one. I think you can watch it free on either itunes or with any apple device.
I didn't see a post about it yet - apologies if someone already put this up somewhere.

This is actually a pretty significant event and a massive opportunity for the Pixies as a going concern. It's a widely hyped free concert that streams to 100 countries. Odd as it may sound around these parts, this will be an intro to the Pixies for potentially hundreds of thousands of people, probably mostly young kids who have no clue about them.
I'm no live Pixies historian and I could be wrong about the significance, but it's probable that it will be one of the largest stages they've played on. The merits of that from our perspective (uberfans) can certainly be debated, but there's no doubt it's a hell of a good gig for the band. I congratulate them and hope for a great and representative performance. Plus I'm looking forward to HD quality live tracks of the new tunes!

Fuck. It's the girlfriend's birthday party tonight; otherwise, I'd be glued to my screen (after re-downloading iTunes, of course). I think XFM are broadcasting the audio. |

I'm on a decent connection, but the feed is all over the place. Audio/video not synced up at times.
Band sounding brilliant though. Charles and Kim in great voice. |

My video is just a series of still images. Haven't seen a moving image, yet. (My internet connection is decent, but not exactly top of the line.)
Audio is crystal clear though, which is all I need.

I sold all of my old Pixies records years ago and no longer own them on any format (not because I dislike them; I was just paring down my music collection and didn't feel like I needed to hear those again).
This show makes me want to go buy 'em all back.

I enjoyed 'Andro Queen' a lot more than on the record. They've played around with the 'In Heaven' arrangement a bit, too.
Genuinely think the band are sounding the best they have since the reunion began. |

Finally getting to stream this. I was at work when it was live and I had to wait a few hours after for them to upload it. The quality is absolutely outstanding - highest quality for any live Pixies I've seen. The band is firing on all cylinders too. Good stuff.

watching it now. a very good gig by the looks/sounds of it. had to install itunes to see it, so it better be good! quite a slow tempo beginning. played quite a few slow songs at the beginning. get more uptempo though. nothing wrong with that.
i like how they're not just playing the songs as on the albums these days - they're playing round with the arrangements just a little. haven't really done that much before - slowing own the tempo of nimrod's son, vamos (which has always changed) and drawing out the endings of gigantic and where is my mind are about the only one's I can remember them doing as the pixies before. keeping it all fresh, which must be part of the challenge for them as well.
all i can say, thank god for polio! brian |

Fantastic. Benji - I agree, it's good to hear them experimenting with the arrangements.
While I would have liked to hear a hi res version of some of the unreleased stuff (Hexe, Greens and Blues), it's probably a smart move on their part not to have high quality versions of unreleased stuff widely available if they want to keep the suspense up for the next EP.

I love old Kim, but I love new Kim too. Love her energy and overall positive vibe she brings to the band. But can you blame her? I mean, wouldn't you be just out of your mind crazy happy if you got to be in the Pixies?!?! It must feel like a dream for her. |

A great thing about Kim Shattuck is that she's a seasoned musician in her own right--been in bands and making records for as long as Frank has--so she confidently brings her own energy to the band. She's not a Kim Deal stand-in. She's Kim Shattuck. She's her own person. And she's having a great time. You can tell.
Really hope I get to see this band on a more wide US tour. |

holy schnikes! awesome gig! band is sounding great! i hope someone manages to capture the vid. cool that you could hear a little of kim's "growl" coming out on a few of the songs. hope she brings it more to the forefront. i'm excited about the "new" pixies!
