The EP title (after imported into iTunes) is EP1. More happy.

Doesn't get much better than this, more new music!
Indy Cindy is effing fantastic! BF's singing in the chorus perfectly offsets the spoken verses in a way that Bagboy's chorus didn't. They still fucking got it!
What Goes Boom is immediately great and sounds unmistakably like Pixies. Backing vocals sound like BF and the boys. Subtle riff in the verse is catchy.
Listened out of order, so now Andro Queen. Mellow vibe with some 80s type drum smacks to start. Great to hear BF hitting a creative vibe like this. Not a moment to dislike really. Nothing Pixies-esque until BF's spoken words in espanol? Drumming keeps the thing moving forward. Simple, effective.
Another Toe, this is the track most unlike the Pixies. Catchy, if a bit steady and without real edge. I really like the guitar and "ooooohhhhooooooo"s.
First time around, lots of stuff to be very excited about as all 4 songs are catchy, yet different than the OG pixies in enough ways to keep us on our toes.
BF, Joey and Dave, salute to you on your rebirth as Pixies! Sounds great. |

Ordered! 23 euro for the vinyl (incl. shipping) and download. Nice! The artwork is great.
Love the songs, the production is sometimes too slick for my tastes. The vocal on Andro Queen sounds too processed for instance, love Dave's(?) backing vox though. Another Toe In The Ocean is the poppiest. Indy Cindy is my favourite. What Goes Boom is exactly that: BOOM! Santiago in your face!

I liked Bagboy and I love Andro Queen and Another Toe, both are instant classics ! (My 4 months old daughter love them too !) So far, I'm a not into Indie and What goes...
First time I paid for digital tracks (I'm still fond of cds, too bad we can't have one... yet.) |

I like those tunes. Frank is right not to try to emulate the old Pixies sound. It probably lacks the screams & dynamics that I liked on the late Pixies work. But hey, it's new. It took me a few time to get into Bossanova & TLM too.
I wonder how Joey will manage to handle all his new FX pedals on stage !!!

On youtube for skin flints-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjmcsPpwNas
They all just sound like Frank Black songs to me, early ones. They're alright, nothing I'll still be listening to in 20 years though.
I agree with Kogi on Another Toe, sounds like one of those adverts you see on YouTube and on the telly, the stunning new album from... you know what I mean. instantly throwaway commercial pap. Rest of the songs are ok, they'll keep me amused for an hour or so today. As far as the Pixies are concerned, they are over to me though.
I've now given them a good listen and none of them really do much for me I'm afraid, they just don't have that quirky experimental edge they had in their hey day. And why do they keep getting Dubs in on the backing vocals? nothing against the guy, but I want a girl with a sweet voice to do the backing vocals. They have a new Kim so why the hell don't they use her!

I am really enjoying Andro and Cindy. The other 2 definitely feel like throw-away B-sides. I wonder if this is how all the "EPs" will be--a sollection and A's and B's. I mean, they do have over 20 songs in the cannon.
Anyway, has anyone felt that "What Goes Boom" is about Kim D? Lyrics like:
"Grace in her lace and her stocking carryin' her bass she really likes to get rocking oh darlin' Grace are we going to get rocking?"
+ references to Ringo and Chet Baker (drug problems).

Glad this is happening. One thing I would suggest for next time is being more flexible with the vinyl/t-shirt combo - I was trying to order but pretty much all the t-shirt sizes are gone except small. If your size is out maybe there should be the option to just go ahead with the vinyl so that you are not paying for a t-shirt you can't wear. Just in case anyone from the band is listening.

Also, I had a dream last night that I was watching a new Pixies video. Coincidence? Yes. But still, anything that makes me more Special Agent Dale Cooper-esque, I will take. |

Hey Brank, you can buy the vinyl alone, there's an option for it at the bottom of the page. $18.

I must say I am a bit let down by the production quality. I have all the demos for these (plus about 13 or 14 more) and the demos are MUCH crisper and powerful. What Goes Boom in particular has lost it's edge in the final version. Bagboy was basically the demo with a few dubs thrown on top. Another thing I was hoping for after listening to the demos these past many months was that they would pare down the running time of the songs. They all, in my opinion, could afford to lose about 30 seconds.

I'm not much of a fan of the mix either. Sounds a bit thin and the instruments don't really have much room to breath/differentiate from each other. Its odd, because its from the same batch as Bagboy which I thought was very well mixed. I must say, I really like Andro Queen. Transmarine, can you say anything about the other songs? What should we expect apart from song length? Are the other songs generally better or about the same as these ones? |

All I can say is they're very good. New in direction...hope the final outcomes are better sounding then the 5 finally released. I'm not saying the publicized 5 are bad in any way, just a bit suprised by the lackluster quality (of course this is my opinion). Especially WHAT GOES BOOM. Totally dissapointed. This demo for this song is dynamically, crashingly loud with the 5th and 6th notes of the guitar riff different and more interesting. I'm sure these demos will eventually get out publically, and comparisons will be made. But I gotta keep my lip zipped until they are all properly released.

there is something weirdly hesitant about all of these songs... like frank is holding back or something.
andro queen is pretty but slight. the vocals seem like they're mixed quite high? a little too high for my tastes.
toe in the ocean is bar none the worst pixies song ever for my money. way too broad. the bridge is very cool, but my apologies, this one needed a page 1 rewrite.
indie cindy is easily my favorite here. GREAT track. the vocals lack the bite of frank's live version, but i'm into it. and with no caveats. i like this like i like the old stuff.
what goes boom is easily the second most "pixies" track here and very cool. great guitar work from joey. like the chords.
so, two great songs, one good song, and one (by my standards) abysmal song.
i hate that they're doing EPs over the next 15 months. jesus. talk about overload AND buzzkill. i suppose they'll be released centered around their touring. |

Overload and buzzkill? I don't agree at all. It's increasingly difficult to keep ANY buzz going in today's entertainment landscape. This is probably the smartest way, along with touring, to keep people anxious and interested about what's to come. Hell, you've already got people saying making complete judgements on these songs after a few listens. An album would likely be much talked about, devoured in a second and forgotten about. I can imagine a larger collection of these individual releases would eventually come together after the 15months. I think it's cool, because we have no idea how the band feel about the tracks, whether they consider one better or more viable than another, and whether any are actually b-sides which wouldn't normally be included on an album release or not. They seem to be willing to give it ALL to us, just little by little.
The songs are all pretty likable to me. Would be happy to see fans just enjoy the tracks for awhile and the fact that they exist at all. Brought a smile to my face to hear the opening moments of Indy Cindy, solid return from the group! |

I'm with natenate. I was a bit put off at first by the EP thing; I was expecting a full album, but like nate says, that would probably go by pretty fast. Let's face it, nobody listens to albums anymore. Releasing singles every couple of months is, I think, what was going on at Sun Records in the 50s. I'm all with it.

Bagboy, now this. So depressing.
I'm afraid really don't like the whole idea of Ding on bass/Dubs on backing vocals and calling it a Pixies release at all. I don't view these as Pixies songs in any way, they don't sound much like Pixies, it doesn't even sound like Joey on guitar, Charles' vocals are lack lustre. I also think Toe is possibly the worst Frank Black song I have ever heard as well.
Nice little collectors items if you have the spare cash, shame about the actual musical content though. nice to be able to earn a living out of the strength of your previous catalogue, punt out a few limited editions at an inflated cost, it can't fail.
Boring. |

I still do.
Albums don't make as much money though, not even for the Pixies. Or do they? Maybe they do. A new Pixies album would make a lot of money, but if they keep punting out stuff like this then maybe not.
I guess they will have a full album on the horizon with Kim mk. II on bass at some time. |

They were already making a living out of the strength of their previous catalogue. This is finally something new. The price is fair if you ask me.
You don't have to buy it, Pot. You can hear the EP on youtube and decide for yourself.
