Pixies will kick off a world tour with Kim Shattuck

http://pixiesmusic.com/new/

PIXIES ANNOUNCE FIRST LEG OF WORLD TOUR
THE PIXIES ANNOUNCE LEG ONE OF EXTENSIVE WORLDWIDE TOUR
Band Will Debut Brand New Pixies Material

Armed with "Bagboy," the band's first new song in nine years, the Pixies will launch the first leg of what will be a massive global tour on Sunday, September 29 in Paris, France. This will kick off the first tour the Pixies have done in nearly two years, and will give them an opportunity to do something they haven't been able to do in two decades : premiere brand new Pixies songs, the first collection of new material since 1991's Trompe le Monde.

Log onto pixiesmusic.com/new for complete on-sale dates and ticket purchasing information.

For this tour, which will feature a brand new stage set and production, the Pixies - Black Francis - guitar/vocals, Joey Santiago - guitars/backing vocals, and David Lovering - drums/backing vocals - will be joined by bassist Kim Shattuck. Shattuck played bass for the all-girl L.A. garage rock band The Pandoras, and then was the guitarist for the pop punk band The Muffs. The four have been holed up in an L.A. rehearsal space getting ready to offer the most wide-ranging concert set-lists of Pixies music in the band's career.

"Along with everyone's favorites, we'll be playing songs that we haven't played in ages or never played live before," said Black Francis. "Songs like 'Brick is Red,' 'Havalina,' 'Tony's Theme.' and 'Sad Punk.' We've probably rehearsed some 80 songs, so we'll be able to change up the set at the last minute if we feel like it. We're all really looking forward to this tour."

OCTOBER
02 - Ancienne Belgique, BRUSSELS, BELGIUM
05 - Paradiso, AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS
08 - Huxleys, BERLIN, GERMANY

NOVEMBER

02 - Thonex, GENEVA, SWITZERLAND
04 - Alcatraz, MILAN, ITALY
07 - La Riviera, MADRID, SPAIN
09 - Coliseum, LISBON, PORTUGAL
13 - Falkoner, COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
14 - Sentrum Scene, OLSO, NORWAY
15 - Munchen Brewery, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN

ok, this sounds more like it.
but the question is why they couldn't have done it it at any stage of the last decade of reunion.
but still, new and new 'old' songs.
i'd go if they make it to my corner of the world tour.

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian

I hope Kim Shattuck is also on the new recordings. I like the Pixies as 4 strong characters, not 3 guys and some session musicians.

I'm interested in this because they are playing new/newer material. Havalina! Hope tickets aren't overpriced or sell out in 2 minutes.

It says they'll premiere brand new Pixies songs, but BF's statement doesn't necessarily indicate that. excited for those living in the listed cities and glad the train will be moving. Can only mean good things and hopefully new music.

Edit: Nevermind, read the statement and since its from their website it looks like the newness will be displayed.

Probably because someone did not like/approve the new material.

Can't wait to hear some new stuff. It's not that i don't like hearing songs like "Where is my mind" or the Doolittle hits played again and again and again and again, but there's such good material in the last two albums & much more new sounds to explore. I'm quite pleased this is happening after all this time. Yeah !!!

I'm happy the Paris gig is at the Olympia. Not the best venue but it's way better than the shitty Zenith of their 2004 concert. I think it holds 2,000.

I love it! Replacing a Kim with a Kim. It'll be very interesting to hear how this works as what I know of Kim S's voice is that it's vastly different to Kim D's. Although maybe she can do a good Kim impression if she wants to..?

If she can though, i'm assuming that in this instance that she simply didn't want to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVuPt76kh6s

OR maybe they don't actually want someone who can do a good Kim impression..?

Either way - exciting!

Hey... They should also bring a third guitar player onstage to play on louder Trompe le Monde/Bossanova songs. Like they did back in the day. Whoo !

£27.50 a ticket! I suppose they can charge that, being the Pixies. Sadly I'n not as flush as I was in 2009.

It's €44 in Paris, and yeah, I wouldn't buy a ticket at that price if it weren't for them.

I'd love to see them play more Bossanova/TLM stuff. Guess I'll have to wait until the second leg of the tour.

I made the mistake of paying £90 for a ticket for Brixton in 2004 thinking it might be my only chance to ever see them live again.

from spin.com:

The Pixies said the tour will include new songs, part of what's billed as "the first collection of new material since 1991's Trompe Le Monde." According to the posts, Shattuck has been rehearsing in Los Angeles with singer-guitarist Black Francis, guitarist-singer Joey Santiago, and drummer-singer David Lovering.

They've run through about 80 songs together, so they'll be able to change up set lists on the fly, according to Black Francis. "Along with everyone's favorites, we'll be playing songs that we haven't played in ages or never played live before," he said in a statement. "Songs like 'Brick is Red,' 'Havalina,' 'Tony's Theme.' and 'Sad Punk.' "

The same thing happened to me except I think I paid £100. Although it hurt me bad I did not regard it as a mistake.

I just bought a seated ticket to the same gig as I was afraid I won't get one once the London tickets go on sale.

I would love to hear "Trompe Le Monde" (the song), "Bird Dream" or "Alec Eiffel".... Some of the best off that record.

Did they ever played Down to the well at a concert ? BBC session version was pretty enjoyable.

Hangwire. Did not hear that one live in a long time.

Let's hope plenty of new songs
