I started listening to green on red (starting from the first album), a band totaly unknown in France so i 'd never heard of it, and i was surprised it really sounds like Frank Black catholics era stylistically... But he didnt ever quote that band didnt he?

If you're getting into Green on Red, you should also check out some of Chuck Prophet's albums (he played guitar with Green on Red for about 7 years, I believe). Personally, I really liked his latest, "Temple Beautiful". The songs are great. Not that it sounds like the catholics, but worth listening to. All the songs on that record are, thematically, about San Francisco.

I agree with you about the Chuck Prophet album. True it doesn't sound like Catholics but they'd make sense as neighbors on the same cd shelf. Good stuff. One of my favorites of last year. "Play That Song Again" should have been a big hit single.

That's really well put... "they'd make sense as neighbors on the same cd shelf". As for the songs, there's so many good ones. Castro Halloween, The Left Hand and the Right Hand... etc.. The album didn't strike me like a bolt of lightning, but it grew on me pretty quick and then I realized I thought it was really very good. Kind of like a Frank Black record, except those usually bring about repeated compulsive listening of a whole other league once they get stuck in you head

Chuck is the man. Straight up rock n' roll, with very good songwriting. And don't forget the tasty Tele-leads. Catch him if you can.
