Went to the Webster gig tonight-- great show and fantastic to hear Pod all the way through. However the biggest moment of the night for me was the encore: Kim announced "we have a new song." And they played "Walking With a Killer" which was the first of Kim's solo singles from the beginning of the year. Really made me think they're working on an album.
And then I went looking for new interviews and saw this bit from Josephine:
“I think we’re all excited about the idea of doing new stuff,’’ said Wiggs. The audiences from this tour are split between those who remember the band from Lollapalooza in 1994, and those who say, “ ‘I’ve never seen you before because I wasn’t BORN until 1990.’
“The fact is, in order for us to play more shows, we kind of need to make new records,’’ Wiggs said.

Cool, but kinda funny that the last quote from Wiggs is basically the same thing Black Francis has been saying about the Pixies for the past few years. And it appears the new music was one of the main reasons Deal left the Pixies. But she seems to be cool with the shoe being on the other foot now. :) |

I can totally understand that, but it is indeed funny.
She didn't want to mess with the legacy of the pixies, while she messed with The Breeders name and legacy for years: different line-ups for every record, every record!

I don't remember Kim ever saying anything about the Pixies' legacy... and really, the Breeders have always been a fluid thing. Heck, Kim and Kelley used the name as teenagers long before Pod. And really, I think that fluidity was underlined by the fact that Kim called the Amps the Amps and not the Breeders out of respect for Josephine and Kelley with the assumption that they'd get back to the Breeders after the Amps album. When that wasn't the case it seems like the line up shifting just became an accepted part of the project. And for the record, Title TK and Mountain Battles have the same line up. And it appears that Last Splash and the next one will as well :)
Either way, I'm very excited. "Walking..." and "Hot Shot" are both pretty great and bode well for new material.

But she messed with the breeders in totally diferent way, she's stuck with the integrity lofi thing: her songs became very boring but it's allways good indie lofi taste. Charles recorded a LOT of songs i cant show to mi lofi indie friends, it sounds like Wham or ZZ Top to them, and i guess it sounds like that for Kim Deal. At the end the style doesnt really matter, the only important thing is : does this song thrills me in one way or another? Do i want to play it another time, either if i'm pissed off or exited by it? It is the only test. No matter if you got Albini or Norton. |

"walking with a killer" is the best song/recording she's put out... just about ever.

Yeah, really love that song. Kim's voice along with those guitar freak-outs, one of her best songs for sure. Hope the band treatment of it doesn't change much, that single will always be lthe definiteve version in my mind. |

Last night's rendition was basically the single version exactly. I couldn't discern any changes. I'm hoping for "Hot Shot" tonight! |

I hate to be that guy pointing out release dates of Breeders records (in another thread) and other information that's widely available like liner notes and other credits, but here I go.
Title Tk: a couple of tracks that are made of just Kim and Kelly from another time period even before the East LA-Breeders were formed, plus a couple of tracks of said band with Mando, Jose and lead guitar player Richard Presley.
Mountain Battles: different kind of sessions with a band tracks with Mando and Jose, but no Richard Presley. There was a story about Richard not being invited to the sessions. He was not amused. They toured with another auxilary guitar player (a female whose name I just forgot)
The whole "Kim doesn't want to mess with the legacy" came from interviews with FBF. I have to look it up for the real quotes.

Still, you raised some valid points about the Amps.
And I really like Kim's solo singles, kinda hoping for a real solo record as she promised. The Breeders recording this material would be ace, but I'd prefer a solo disc. And then a new record with the Last Splash-line up. Poor Jose and Mando.

Haha, oh boy...
I suppose so. My single (only got the first one) didn't came with artwork. White paper sleeve, that's all. But I believe so. Kim said she wanted to make a real solo album, playing everything herself.

Hi. How ya doing? Anyway......Kim and the Breeders in concert in 2013 is more dynamic and exciting than the Pixies in concert nowadays. Kim and her abilities were greatly under utilized in the Pixies. Go, girl |
